The mattress in my room wasn't a mattress. It was a 3" very flimsy excuse for a mattress. Room temperature was hard to control. Poor service, too. Lukewarm water on one day. (Another guest had no hot water.) Getting into the shower required stepping into a tub approx. 3' high. I couldn't wait to leave this hotel. I should have stayed at The Thief.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during our visit to Oslo in May. Our room was very nice, the staff was utterly friendly and the breakfast was good. Grand hotel also has a very nice roof top bar that you have to visit! One of the best things about the hotel is the location. Right in the middle of Karl Johan, with everything Oslo has to offer within walking distance. I would gladly recommend this hotel to friends and family, and I would very much like to stay here again myself the next time I go to Oslo.

very well located; close by the Metro station, shops, restaurants and Harbour ( start of Fjord sightseeing trips )... great breakfast buffet ( at the Grand Cafe ..unfortunately the Spa is operated by a 3rd party and has other priorities than the Hotel has...no children under 12 allowed in the pool; max 15 persons at the same time in Spa area, meaning that if 15 pax have prebooked the pol and spa area, you are not allowed to enter; even when you are a Hotel guest. saturday morning is family hour from 08.00-10.00 and after that children are not allowed at all...in our case the Spa company decided not to open between 08.00 and 10.0 at all due to limited staff availability.....so when traveling with children ( like we did ) this could be very disappointing.. our complaint to the Manager on Duty was unfortunately not solved in a decent way, but rather resulted into a discussion ( Manager O.D. Mr Alex Raby Dominique informed us that we could/should have read this whilst making the reservation on-line...instead of apologizing for the inconvinience of change of opening-hours..)...too bad the Manager on-Duty Mr Dominique was not client-minded, as the rest of the staff was very helpful and friendly...overall a great Hotel....

We stayed at the Grand for one night to explore Oslo before heading on the train up to Bergen. Overall an excellent hotel in a great position and having just been refurbished in room amenities and cleanliness were all great. Pros and cons as follows: Pros: - central location with only a 10min walk from the central station - friendly check in staff - beautiful decorated with some interesting artwork - clean rooms with good amenities, large shower, heated wardrobes, robes and slippers - nice and exclusive feeling spa with small pool, sauna and steam room Cons: - the exclusive feel of spa also meant small so limited places to sit - very soft mattress (I think it was a topper) - tea/coffee/mini bar was fairly limited and no fresh milk which I would expect from a 5 star hotel All in all would certainly recommend the Grand.

Can't say enough about the staff they were impeccable from the concierge to the front desk to housekeeping and in the restaurants... Well trained, perfectly attentive, always smiling and exactly what one would expect for a five-star experience. Location of the hotel is absolutely perfect for Oslo.. centrally located and near restaurants, shopping & even the waterfront... Five-star location. Building is old and it was remodeled but it's still old.... For example we like to keep our room in the 60s at night and there was no way to turn off the radiator - not completely... It slowly leaked heat even when "off"... So I ended up having to leave the window open which then let's noise in so it was this constant back-and-forth and frankly is irritating .....that aspect alone would drop the facility to me to three stars because it affects the quality of my sleep and this is after all a Hotel... Made me wish I would have stayed at the brand new Radisson Blu.. that thing looked impressive... New and I regretted not checking it out. Gym was 2 stars... 1 old elliptical and two treadmills one of which didn't work at all... Time to upgrade the equipment guys - I get that they are ten thousand bucks a piece but again if you want to promote yourself as a five-star facility you need to have a gym that corresponds... Wifi was 5 stars... If you're American - don't even waste time on the liquor or ordering cocktails...It's like my grandma is pouring the shots and they charge 10 to $15 for a drink. I don't mind spending that much for a drink at a five-star facility but at least give a decent pour?! The wine is more reasonable as well as the beer.. There is a liquor store right around the corner and we got smart and went there and just brought it back to our room... I noticed when I was looking at they tried to bundle their buffet breakfast with the rooms. It's not worth it you won't want it everyday and it's just a waste of money.
