The location is great, a huge central park is in front, most sights are nearby or close, the central station is walking distance. The hotel is huge, so do not expect personal treatment or rooms for your personal preference. My grand deluxe double room faced an inner courtyard, not very big either, on a lower floor, it could have been brighter especially in Oslo. But, I only stayed one night, the room was clean, the bathroom huge, the hotel people nice and friendly, so I did not complain. Breakfast choice was kind of limited for this size and category of a hotel. But, it is central, there is a park and the sun was shining.

We only stayed one night in the Grand Hotel so we didn't have time to explore all the amenities the hotel had to offer, but based on our limited exposure to one of the best hotels in Oslo I can safely say that we will absolutely come back again! The location of the hotel couldn't be better. Located on Karl Johans gate, it is within walking distance of the central train station (from where you easily get to and from the airport), the royal palace, as well as Aker Brygge that is home to a plethora of great restaurants. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, as would be expected of a hotel of this standard. The same goes for all the common areas in the hotel, especially the lobby is a piece of art in itself. The staff in the reception was super and made us feel really welcome as soon as we stepped in through the door! They are really focused on making their guests feel at home, even for a shorter stay. This is what a top tier hotel is supposed to be, and we will definitely stay here the next time we are in Oslo!

I didn't expect this staying at Grand in Oslo! The picture of the dirt is from the bathroom door taken from the bathroom. Sorry this is not good enough. Breakfast was also not as expected. Fried eggs were cold and the cucumber had been sliced the day before...

We had two rooms, one overlooking the square at the front which was more traditional and quite noisy. The second was at the back facing a nondescript courtyard which had contemporary furnishing and was very quiet. Both were deluxe rooms and had Nespresso machines and a seating area. Service in the hotel is very good and is perfectly located for the museums, royal palace and shops. We tried the spa which was good, though the pool is quite small and not really suitable for hard core swimmers. I think there is a 100NOK (£10) charge per person to use it, but not sure. We had breakfast in the Grand Lounge one morning which was fabulous. The charge per adult was 190NOK and 100 NOK for children for a full buffet compared to 100NOK each for a coffee and pastry in cafes. Really great selection of good quality food and good service too.

How can I start ? As soon as I stepped in I realize I was somewhere specially historic where significant moments took place. The name is appropriate: Grand. Nonetheless it is not only that; The Grand is sophisticated in a warm way that will make you relax and forget about the world outside. There is so much art everywhere. Note especially the Murano chandelier in the restaurant at the lobby. Every lamp and light piece is artistically designed to set the right tone and mood: relaxation and privacy. Drinks and dinner: terrific. I wish I could be here every evening ! The breakfast: I cannot even start to describe how scrumptiously crafted it is! Eggs: more than five ways. Salmon: exquisitely prepared and served in several styles. The coffee is perfect. The setting : historic and majestic. The spa: a piece of paradise. Just there waiting for you. I could go on, however, it is the people who make this place truly special. I have seen other equally luxurious places around the world. They are nonetheless sterile and perhaps invariably, too formal. They make you want to go away. The Grand is different because the people make the experience truly unique. Tanja, Theresa, Daniel, Nia, Anne and all the others I don't know the names yet, but already made a big difference. These people take enormous pride to be in the hospitality business. I am sure it is not easy but they make it seem effortless. This is the place to be in Oslo!
