Reviews for The Westin Ottawa
This was our second time back to the Westin for our anniversary. Room was very tiny, parliament view, clean. The staff are amazing and take pride in pleasing their guests. They delivered a plate with assorted cheeses, crackers and fruit to our room accompanied by two glasses of red wine. Nice touch and very thoughtful. We decided to stay at the Westin again this year because of the great location as we had planned to skate the canal and have supper in the market. Last year I was really disappointed with how busy the hotel was and the noise in the hallways. Keep in mind that it was family day, but the wait for the elevators was unreal and the screaming kids in the hallways at 6 a.m. was not very enjoyable. We were again disappointed with the noise in the hallways this year. We were really hoping for some rest and relaxation. We could hear everything in the hallway from the maid chatting to children screaming. I could also hear the toilette in the room next to us being flushed. There was something wrong with the shower both days during our stay. It wouldn't stay at a constant temperature, it was either freezing or scalding hot. We have decided that next year we will try another hotel. It wasn't horrible, but for the price I was just not impressed.

A two couple weekend at Winterlude. The hotel is ground zero for all festivities. Walking distance to everything. Skate rentals at a far cheaper price than available on the canal, with no lines, and a guy who makes sure everything fits. They got us into our room early. Nice bar and coffee cafe for breakfast upstairs. Check out literally took 15 seconds. At home, I forgot my items in the closet so sent a follow up note. Prompt response, they have my stuff, and will send it to me. The manager has sent a follow up note asking about our stay. From end to end this was a quality experience.

Westin Ottawa is a great value for money. Attached to Rideou Centre, overlooking Parliament Hill and Fairmont, the Westin Ottawa has a panorama view of the city from the room and 360 degree view from its 22nd floor restaurant. Though, it misses the facilities that SPG Platinum guests get at its other properties such as fruits or cookies in the room, lounge access etc. But its neat and clean and well maintained property

The hotel is situated across from the Rideau Canal and the War Memorial. Conveniently attached to the Rideau Shopping Centre which was quite convenient. Service was excellent - staff were friendly and very professional. Any requests were prompted addressed. Rooms were clean, quiet and well appointed. Would stay here again.

The Good: Last minute booking for a 1-night family (2 young kids) staycation to be within walking distance of the Winterlude Festival action in Ottawa. Reception staff friendly and was able to get us check-in early (1:30pm instead of 3pm). Wifi was also free only due to winterlude festival - nice bonus especially when needing to entertain the kids in the hotel room. The Average: Parking is valet only at Westin, and at quite a steep price (~$45/day), so best bet was to park at that Rideau Shopping Centre, which is connected to the hotel (so no outdoor walking in the snow) for $25/night. Room was booked with the additional $28 for breakfast. Turns out that this only covered 2 adults and we had to pay for 2 kids to eat!!!?? ($15 each) - just not a nice surprise additional cost from a big chain high-end hotel considering we could have easily just walked to the mall to buy a $4 breakfast from Tim Hortons instead. Despite that sour taste, the breakfast buffet was actually very good, with great selection and unlimited quickly refilled fresh orange juice or coffee/tea by the courteous servers. Finally, while we asked and received early check in to our room, the room was not prepared to the standard that I would expect from a 5-star hotel...with the bed sheets clearly unchanged or properly setup from the previous residents and carpet clearly not vacuumed either. While I’m no picky traveler, yet I have high expectations based on the hotel rating and also having young kids, these two particular cleanliness elements are key for us. Summary: -Great location hotel to Ottawa downtown action, especially during Winterlude Festival. Makes everything within walking distance. -Extra fees for parking and breakfast make this not such a great Expedia deal as advertised! -Our room preparation upon check-in was not up to par, especially for a 5-star hotel.
