Elbow Beach, Bermuda in Paget, Bermuda

Only five minutes from the country capital of Hamilton, 50 lush acres of manicured gardens at Elbow Beach, Bermuda set the scene for this luxurious beach escape. The verdant grounds gently slope down toward a private half-mile stretch of pink sand beach – the longest of any resort in Bermuda – and the turquoise waters beyond. Built in 1908 and recently rejuvenated, the hotel features 98 airy rooms set in the main building and charming low-slung cottages. Each room heralds a contemporary Caribbean vibe with tones reflecting sand and sea. Guests can relax on chaise lounges on the lanai-style patios in the well kitted-out quarters. Among must-have amenities rooms offer high-definition televisions, wireless Internet access, audio systems with iPod docking stations and personal Espresso machines. Separate walk-in rain showers and deep soaking tubs as well as top-tier complimentary toiletries come standard in each of the chic bathrooms.

Although it is tempting to lounge on the picture-perfect beach all day, try some of the numerous on-site activities. The resort has five tennis courts – three of them lit for night play – a massive heated free-form swimming pool, and guests can arrange for Scuba excursion at the beachside PADI-certified dive shop. Ready to relax after adventuring? Schedule some adult-time and drop the young’uns off at the resident Kids Club. Then get pampered at the Asian-inspired spa sanctuary that has six ultra-private spa suites, a foot ritual chair, and outdoor daybeds. Guests may pick from four on-site restaurants. The standout is Lido Restaurant where patrons have gorgeous vistas of the Caribbean Sea while tucking into Pan-Mediterranean cuisine enhanced by tropical influences such as the popular Bouillabaisse Revisited made with shrimp, scallops and little neck clams. For post-prandial drinks, there are several choices: Sip crafty cocktails accompanied by magnificent ocean views at Sea Breeze terrace, settle in a plush leather sofa at Deep Lounge, or mosey on over to the Mickey's Beach Bar to see the sun go down 30 feet from the water’s edge. Less than a three-hour flight from many US East Coast cities, Elbow Beach, Bermuda is the ideal destination for a swift yet relaxing vacation even on a tight schedule.

The beach complex had a live band on Friday night of our stay. For somewhere that charges $700+ per night, is it too much to ask for a good night's sleep? Music and base blasted until at least midnight.

This is my first time writing a review and I am doing so because I feel compelled to alert future travelers to the conditions found at this property. I stayed here about 20 years ago and it was absolutely stunning. A lot has changed in that time. The rooms are in major need of maintenance. Mold on shower grout. Ants in bathroom. Leaky bathroom sink fixtures. Rooms are very "tired" looking, in need of complete makeover. We paid about $700.00 per night for a room that looked like a motel 8. Housekeeping was lovely and did their best. Restaurants on site were exorbitant for very mediocre food. My surf and turf at Mickey's qualified as such because of the ONE shrimp speared through my steak. Shrimp cocktail is $8 PER shrimp. I only take issue with these prices because of the poor quality of food. There is no coffee shop on the premises for quick breakfast options. Breakfast cost this family of 4 $100. per day for 2 plated of fruit and a basket of baked goods, coffee and juice. Nothing hot, basically a continental breakfast. The lobby was deserted except for the front desk. Concierge was less than helpful. I received an email from my "personal concierge" prior to arrival to arrange airport transfers, but never met him or spoke with him once we arrived, despite sending Winton an email asking for assistance with a dinner reservation. The staff seems very unhappy. Honestly, felt like 'The Shining." I think it is silly to stay here just for the Beach which is lovely, however does not come close to making up for everything else this property lacks. I have since learned that this resort was to close in 2010, was bought by a Saudi Prince, and has been slated for a total renovation. Problem is, it isn't actually underway and I'm told fro one staff member that they have been waiting for this Prince to come tour the resort. Sorry this is so long, but I honestly do not understand all of the other glowing reviews. That is the reason I picked this place. There are a few other bad reviews which I considered to be outliers, but now I know better. Would consider the Fairmont Southhampton if you are wanting a fabulous resort, great amenities, and fabulous restaurants. Marcus Restaurant can't be beat. Added bonus....it's cheaper.

This was our first trip to Bermuda and we cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience at Elbow Beach. From the moment were warmly greeted by Sandy at the front desk we knew we had made the right choice where to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Having lunch at Mickey's was our first introduction to the incredible views of the turquoise water and the first rate service by the very friendly and attentive staff. Our room was immaculate and well-appointed with equally stunning views. We enjoyed every meal on property, and each one was better than the last. The attention to detail extended to a simple request for a picture of us to be taken at dinner. This was followed on two separate occasions by our servers Carmen and Inna having us pose in just the right way against the best background for the perfect picture. This is what you notice when the staff truly cares about your experience. Everyone here went above and beyond to ensure we would have memories to truly last a lifetime!

We went to the Elbow Beach Hotel to show our kids where we honeymooned. We pulled up to the main hotel only to find the beautiful lobby intact but the rest of the high-rise hotel absolutely empty. There is no dining room, just the pool area attached to the hotel. Paint is chipping on the far end of the exterior of the high-rise and it looks awful. The only rooms rented are the cottages on the grounds. Oh my! So sad to see one of the grand dames of Bermuda in such disrepair.

This was our second trip to Elbow Beach and it was just as perfect as our last visit in 2015. We actually thought the food at Mickey's on the beach was better this time around and the service was impeccable. We were a family of five in two different rooms and were again very pleased with room location and housekeeping services. The service on the beach is second to none where you have beach attendants catering to your every need and the beach is the best in Bermuda. We hope to return again soon!
