Newstead Belmont Hills in Paget, Bermuda

When Newstead Belmont Hills opened in 2008, it was the first new resort development in Bermuda in 35 years. Modern rooms with hardwood floors and mosaic-tiled marble bathrooms enjoy views of Hamilton Harbor, where complimentary water taxis take guests to destinations across the island. Golfers won’t want to miss tee time at the Algie M. Pulley, Jr.-designed 18-hole course overlooking the Great Sound – a complimentary round is included with each stay.

Get your blood flowing with an early morning tennis match. Lounge the day away at the edge of the harborside infinity pool. Take a quick jaunt over to a pink-sand beach and scour the shore for shells. Book a corner table for dinner, feeling the Bermudan breeze bid farewell to the sun’s last rays. Feast on fresh sashimi – unangi, ebi, ikura, maguro and salmon caviar – paired with a glass of chilled chardonnay.

My husband and I had never been to Bermuda and we chose the Newstead Belmont Hills hotel based on reviews here, location and the views at the hotel. There were many aspects of our trip that were wonderful and we will definitely be returning to Bermuda. I will visit this hotel again for a lunch or dinner but I can't stay we will stay here again. When they say it's all in the details, they're not kidding and that certainly held true this trip. We were booked in a 1 bedroom, harbor view suite. We were at the beginning of the hall which I believe afforded us a little more interior space however the location was less than desirable due to noise from shuttle pick up that was just steps away, noise from the restaurant below and noise from the elevator at all hours of the night. At dinner on our 2nd night we planned on going to the tapas restaurant, which upon arrival we found out was closed for a corporate event. Prior notice to hotel guests would have been appreciated. We decided to dine at the restaurant overlooking the pool. It was 8pm and the pool was closed. Immediately after appetizers were served 2 couples arrived to the hot tub below and had clearly had several drinks throughout the day and were loud and distracting. Seeing as the pool was closed we thought it would be a short time until someone advised them of it being closed. This didn't happen. Additionally they had glassware at the pool which is also prohibited per the sign at the pool. It got so distracting to our dinner I went to the front desk to make them aware. The front desk clerk advised they would send security down to handle the situation. Security turned out to be the bell man who was standing at the desk when I was there. He went to the pool area and upon his approach a dog started barking. Pets are also prohibited from the pool area. The bell man spoke to the group and walked away. The group didn't leave and continued being distracting to the point we needed to move our dinner inside the restaurant. Very disappointing. The night before our departure I advised the front desk that we had a 12:40pm scheduled pick up for the airport and requested to check out at 12pm. I was told that as of then they had our room booked for the next day, which I find highly unlikely seeing as there are 45 suites and we maybe saw a total of 15 people/guests our whole time there AND it was off season. But she also said I could check in the morning. I proceeded to adjust our plans and requested to leave the room at 1130 and we would go to lunch before our pick up. At 11:04 am there was a knock on our door from housekeeping making sure we were checking out and wondering when we were leaving. It was a poor ending to the trip. These few things leave a bad feeling about the hotel---they could have and should have been handled differently given the situations. Also, seeing as this was off season I can't see that the service is any better when the hotel is busier.

My husband and I are just back from a week's holiday in Bermuda where we stayed at Newstead Belmont. Everything about the Newstead was great and we definitely recommend staying here. The rooms are great value (for Bermuda as it is a very expensive Island). The Room: We stayed in a studio deluxe suite with an ocean view. These rooms are separate from the main hotel which is great if you want peace and quiet as we never heard any other guests. The room comes with an ocean view and a small terrace with table/chairs. It was great having a small kitchen as we could make our own breakfast each morning, use the fridge to chill water etc. The bed was very comfy (large king size), maid service twice a day, spacious bathroom with plenty soap, shower gel, shampoo etc. The resort: there is a beautiful infinity pool (not huge but wasn't a problem for us as the resort was quiet in November, but could get busy). There is also a pool bar where you can get refreshments (closes in Nov though). We also used the tennis courts one afternoon which was great fun, the hotel supply tennis raquets and balls free to charge. You can also use the spa facilities to shower the day of check out as our flight was 8pm, which was really helpful. The free ferry from Newstead to Hamilton is great! We used this lots but just disappointed the last ferry is 7.25pm, as it means you need to get a bus back to the hotel or taxi ($12 from Hamilton). The restaurant: we dined in Sanzibar restaurant, this is a more casual restaurant which offers tapas and burgers. We had tapas one night and it was very tasty - recommend the chicken wings! There is another restauant - Beau Rivage, we didn't dine here as was quite expensive. We also ate at Blu one night which is the restaurant at the golf course (complimentary shuttle takes you there). Blu was really nice and a lovely setting. The golf: my husband played at Belmont Hills (you get one complimentary round for one person during your stay). The shuttle takes you to the golf course (7 min drive) and pick you up when finished. We just paid for club hire ($50) and cart ($35). The course has spectacular views however some areas need more attention, including the tees and greens. We will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Bermuda! Thanks for a great stay!

The staff is very friendly and attentive. Our 1-Bedroom Suite on the top floor was amazing. Huge space nicely decorated with updated furnishings. Bedroom and Master Bathroom were large and very nice. Excellent views on double porches. We had two amazing dinners at Beau Rivage on-site. An amazing chef and his food was exceptional. Will definitely visit here again.

My husband and I just returned from a fabulous five night stay at this lovely resort. I cannot say enough about the Staff at this resort. From the front desk to housekeepers, to waitstaff and shuttle drivers, every one of them went out of their way to see that we were well taken care of. As a Travel Professional, I will highly recommend Newstead to my Clients.

We had an absolutely fabulous week in Bermuda staying at the Newstead. Friendly staff, beautiful one bedroom suite with gorgeous views of Hamilton across the harbor. Suite came with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Eating breakfast on the massive balcony each day was a highlight! A glass of wine out there in the evenings listening to the tree frog’s song was wonderful too. The hotel ferry to Hamilton was convenient and complimentary. Completely enjoyed our stay!
