The Omphoy Ocean Resort is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful location, lovely staff...but... Stayed mid-March 2014. Check in was efficient, front desk staff very personable and efficient; indeed, every member of staff was top notch! Room was in a lovely location overlooking the sea, and had all amenities we expected. Common areas were nice, inviting, and well kept by housekeeping. In house dining was absolutely delicious, and room service was prompt. Spa staff and services were excellent. The property had a couple of hiccups during our stay - a false fire alarm at 3.00am and a power outage at 7.00am another day - but the staff compensated all guest for these problems without our having to ask; they asked us at checkout if we'd been compensated, and when we said no, they said they would be removing all parking charges, and offered us an additional discount as well. Right, now let us address what others have said, and make a few observations of our own. 1. Darkness of the property: It IS dark in the property. Very, very dark. My husband had a bit of difficulty getting the key card in the door slot because he couldn't see it! The light level is in keeping with the theme of a restful asian inspired retreat, but the lighting could be a bit brighter and still maintain the feel. 2. The Pool in the Parking Lot: Yes, the pool compound is surrounded by the parking area. So what. All parking is valet and so there is no noise associated with the the moving about of vehicles. And once you are in the area, you could be in any pool compound anywhere. Our cabana was right behind the reception/valet area, and we never heard a sound from them all day, and the pool side service was excellent, with full menu and drinks galore. As for our observations (for whatever they are worth): A. The Spa: I had issues with booking by phone with the spa. Package included a couples massage, and the first 2 times I rang to book, I was told: i) They did not offer a "Couples Massage" (they did and do) and ii) they had never heard of Luxury Link or any arrangement the hotel had with them. It took the reception staff to insist that they book our appointment... As mentioned, spa staff were very friendly, and the service was excellent, but when it came time to finalise payment of gratuities, the spa still had no idea how to sort payment for the package! It was clear to us that the spa was rather new to the property, and they hotel and spa need to work together to make the experience seamless B. The Groupon/Living Social/etc coupon fiasco: The property is/has sold coupons for their Sunday Brunch to the general public I presume to drum up business. Issue is that there was a great deal of problem for hotel guests being seated for breakfast on Sunday, as many of the coupon purchasers had reserved tables - large tables - however, there was apparently a lot of staff confusion as to the booking of tables; several guests inquired as to whether or not they needed to book tables, and were told no and so consequently, when the hotel guests arrived for breakfast they were told that there was going to be a wait due to the tables being booked. Quite the Catch-22. The property's beachfront restaurant area is not all that large, and seating is limited, even on a normal day; we had to be seated at the couches with others on one morning. The property needs to i) Determine a policy for managing seating during the Sunday Brunch promotion. One that address needs of guests vs public. Perhaps suggesting to guests that they should book for Sunday, as there could be waits if they do not do so... and Lastly, 3) The overall condition of the property: It is a bit tired. Scuffs and scratches, and dings and things. While it looks fine decoratively, the whole place does need a bit of a spruce up to compete as a "luxury" property, particularly in a very competitive luxury market

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Relaxing Respite from the Snow. Our four nights at the Omphoy were pleasant and relaxing.  Our room was comfortable with a nice view of the beach and ocean.  The bath was compartmented with a large stall shower and separate toilet which did result in very limited space around the sink.  Most impressive was the quality of the staff who were helpful and friendly without exception.   We did not dine at the hotel except for breakfast.  Our package included a full American breakfast and on several occasions we did take advantage of their excellent breakfast buffet for an up-charge.  Having the buffet included in the package would have been appreciated. Both the beach and the pool were attractive and well maintained. Several reviews mention that the hotel is dark and this is true as it features a contemporary decor with paneled walls.  Since we had a high floor, ocean front room this was not a problem for us, but had we needed to keep the shutters closed during the day it would have been.
