Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, California

Celebrating its inaugural opening in 1936, Palm Springs' Colony Palms Hotel (originally the Colonial House) was a haven for old Hollywood and the international jet set. After careful restoration and renovation, the hotel reopened in 2007 with the bravado of a Prohibition-era speakeasy and the charm of a four-star luxury boutique hotel. With names like Purple Palm Restaurant and "Palme D'Or Residence" paying homage to the hotel's historic past and VIP visitors, the old becomes new again at Colony Palms Hotel. The hotel's 56 guestrooms and suites feature stunning mountain views, oversized bedding with custom designed Turkish Suzani headboards, and Italian linens. Plush white towels and Signature CPH bathrobes offset the cool marble countertops and oversized vanities in the bathrooms, while bath products by C.O. Bigelow create an en-suite spa atmosphere in every room. Your posh accommodations become your personal theater and entertainment center with iPod docking station, high-definition televisions and complimentary wireless Internet. At Colony Palms Hotel you are invited to pursue every pleasure with Indulgences—additional details to make your stay unique and unforgettable, including chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers, and champagne service for two upon arrival.

At the Colony Palms Hotel classic charm and contemporary elegance come together in every detail, from the oversized red-rimmed linen umbrellas surrounding the poolside lounge chairs to the croquet games set up along the property. Purple Palm Restaurant and Bar overlooks the garden and the pool, while low hanging lights and overstuffed purple cushions create a lounge-type ambiance where the menu is as timeless as the atmosphere. The Moroccan-inspired Spa at Colony Palms features four treatment rooms, a fitness center, and a professionally trained and certified staff to ensure your every moment is refined and divine. Facials for men and women, massages, salon services, and specialty treatments are available for every ache, pain, and mood, so allow yourself to be pampered. Less than two hours from Hollywood, Disneyland, and the most renowned landmarks in Southern California, the Colony Palms Hotel is ideally situated for shopping, sightseeing, and soaking up the "Golden State's" internationally acclaimed beaches. Or, if you are unsure of where to begin, the hotel's concierge happily recommends the trendiest hotspots or the quiet, intimate spaces to set the mood. At Colony Palms Hotel, Old World glitz and glamour still reign supreme, but today, you are the star.

It feels like you're in a 1930's movie set in Morocco--beautiful old architecture and period décor, but with all the modern comforts. Wonderful pool and spa and lots of secluded nooks in the beautiful gardens for quiet and privacy. There's a great little restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine with a full bar. And the services in the hotel spa are top-notch. Add in the central location, friendly staff, and speedy room service and you've got a winner. We'll be returning to this charming place regularly.

Quiet, friendly and super comfy. Food and ice on demand with virtually no wait. Close to everything you want to do. I was able to get work done in my room, thanks for the free wifi! Can't wait til I come back to Palm Springs for this place.

The colony palms is the cliche; an oasis in the desert. The staff was gracious and welcoming. The rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds and nice showers. (note I stayed in a Deluxe Room) The pool is an ample size. There is no real deep end which is safer for children but might be a slight turn off to someone seeking a place to dive. It is ample depth to swim laps, if that's your thing. We did not dine at the restaurant but the bar was well stocked and manned by a capable, friendly bar tender. All-in-all a fine home base for a visit to Palm Springs. (One additional note for those traveling with children. The rooms come stocked with, ahem, accessories for grown up games. You may want to find them and put them away when you enter.)

Rolled in for a one day turnaround on July 3rd right before the holiday for some fun and lots of sun with some friends of mine. Hotel was cute and quaint. I was expecting a bit more of a luxury hotel and it wasn't that at all but more like hipster boutique hotel. The grounds around looked a little fried and could've been kept nicer, that was really the only thing that threw me off. Oh and then there were kids, I heard it was an adult only place no kids allowed and I was looking forward to the quiet but oh well. It wasn't too bad. Pool was super open and large. Nice for groups just wanting to hang together without being encroached up by other guests. More then enough chairs to put your things down on. Servers come straight to you in the pool area to bring you your drinks. That was nice. Drinks were tasty, that's always a plus for me. Food was really delish too. We had the guac and chips, and the ceviche and breakfast before we left. All pretty good. Rooms were the better part of the experience. AC was blasting, nice and clean. And the mattresses were the perfect density. I would stay here again.

My best friend and I wanted a place where we could relax for a few days, and we were so happy with our stay. The pool is clean and chilled in the summer, and we loved the food and drinks and the great poolside service. Our rooms were clean and cool. We really had a wonderful stay and are planning to go back.
