Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, California

Celebrating its inaugural opening in 1936, Palm Springs' Colony Palms Hotel (originally the Colonial House) was a haven for old Hollywood and the international jet set. After careful restoration and renovation, the hotel reopened in 2007 with the bravado of a Prohibition-era speakeasy and the charm of a four-star luxury boutique hotel. With names like Purple Palm Restaurant and "Palme D'Or Residence" paying homage to the hotel's historic past and VIP visitors, the old becomes new again at Colony Palms Hotel. The hotel's 56 guestrooms and suites feature stunning mountain views, oversized bedding with custom designed Turkish Suzani headboards, and Italian linens. Plush white towels and Signature CPH bathrobes offset the cool marble countertops and oversized vanities in the bathrooms, while bath products by C.O. Bigelow create an en-suite spa atmosphere in every room. Your posh accommodations become your personal theater and entertainment center with iPod docking station, high-definition televisions and complimentary wireless Internet. At Colony Palms Hotel you are invited to pursue every pleasure with Indulgences—additional details to make your stay unique and unforgettable, including chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers, and champagne service for two upon arrival.

At the Colony Palms Hotel classic charm and contemporary elegance come together in every detail, from the oversized red-rimmed linen umbrellas surrounding the poolside lounge chairs to the croquet games set up along the property. Purple Palm Restaurant and Bar overlooks the garden and the pool, while low hanging lights and overstuffed purple cushions create a lounge-type ambiance where the menu is as timeless as the atmosphere. The Moroccan-inspired Spa at Colony Palms features four treatment rooms, a fitness center, and a professionally trained and certified staff to ensure your every moment is refined and divine. Facials for men and women, massages, salon services, and specialty treatments are available for every ache, pain, and mood, so allow yourself to be pampered. Less than two hours from Hollywood, Disneyland, and the most renowned landmarks in Southern California, the Colony Palms Hotel is ideally situated for shopping, sightseeing, and soaking up the "Golden State's" internationally acclaimed beaches. Or, if you are unsure of where to begin, the hotel's concierge happily recommends the trendiest hotspots or the quiet, intimate spaces to set the mood. At Colony Palms Hotel, Old World glitz and glamour still reign supreme, but today, you are the star.

We arrived in late March to Palm Springs in an attempt to flee the snow of Denver. We didn't realize it was spring break week and the airport here was packed. It look an hour and a half to finally get our rental car. When we got to the Colony Palms Hotel we realized we made the right choice, for this is a more mature crowd. The numbers of rooms are small, the pool has about 35 chairs around it and some great cushioned areas by the pool. There is also a nice fire pit area of about 6 seats for late night conversation and cocktails. The service poolside is wonderful and the room suitable, adorable and perfect for the weekend. The is old school Palm Springs and we loved every bit of our stay here.

We showed up and had our car parked. Lovely staff and nice people. Had dinner at the bar and the food was quite good. Also did massage and it was fantastic. Room was nice and clean and all around much above average. But it was overpriced for the expectations. If you are going to charge $500-600 per night it should be another level better than it was.

I was so happy with the stay at Colony Palms. It provides an excellent counterpoint to the larger resorts further in to the valley, offering a smaller and more subdued experience. To be certain, this property is more limited in its offerings--there isn't a gym or multiple restaurants and bars and the resort charge is a bit on the higher end given some of the limitations. But what it does offer it offers well and with style. The pool-side restaurant and bar are consistent and creative. The spa, which we did not use, seems to also offer a complete program that will speak to most needs. I was most impressed by the grounds, which are lush and calming while still easy to manage and appreciate. The staff were also hospitable, making themselves available for any and all needs. We were glad to take them up on the offer of bikes available to guests, riding around the city was probably one of the trip highlights.

From start to finish this place is the best. Check-in is fast and easy and courteous, the staff is just wonderful. The rooms are all beautiful and unique and no expense has been spared for the decorations, fixtures and furniture. Beds and pillows are scrumptious, AC is quiet and powerful, tiles in the bathrooms are to die for. The Colony Palms robes are so amazing we couldn't leave without them and ended up buying them when we checked out. As amazing as the rooms are, make sure to leave them and explore the grounds. You'll find hammocks hung in quiet corners and quaint gardens with fountains. The pool bar is just the absolute best. The bar setting is beautiful, the drinks are strong, the bartenders are attentive. Pool area itself is charming, gorgeous and inviting. Hot tubs are hot and bubbly. You can simply lay by the pool all day ordering drinks and snacks and have a wonderful time. The restaurant is also good, great food and great service. And again so beautifully done! I think the restaurant is one of the best in Palm Springs even if you're not staying at the Colony. If you should want to explore other parts of Palm Springs and not just bask in the glow of the Colony Palms, they have bikes for guests and they're situated pretty close to just about everything. Great stay, would highly recommend for other travelers!

Beautiful property. All personnel were friendly, professional and helpful. The pool area was delightful. Breakfast was good. Eggs Benedict was cooked as I requested. Waiter was very attentive and pleasant. The only complaint I have was the noise of the doors near our room. Great restaurants nearby.
