Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, California

Celebrating its inaugural opening in 1936, Palm Springs' Colony Palms Hotel (originally the Colonial House) was a haven for old Hollywood and the international jet set. After careful restoration and renovation, the hotel reopened in 2007 with the bravado of a Prohibition-era speakeasy and the charm of a four-star luxury boutique hotel. With names like Purple Palm Restaurant and "Palme D'Or Residence" paying homage to the hotel's historic past and VIP visitors, the old becomes new again at Colony Palms Hotel. The hotel's 56 guestrooms and suites feature stunning mountain views, oversized bedding with custom designed Turkish Suzani headboards, and Italian linens. Plush white towels and Signature CPH bathrobes offset the cool marble countertops and oversized vanities in the bathrooms, while bath products by C.O. Bigelow create an en-suite spa atmosphere in every room. Your posh accommodations become your personal theater and entertainment center with iPod docking station, high-definition televisions and complimentary wireless Internet. At Colony Palms Hotel you are invited to pursue every pleasure with Indulgences—additional details to make your stay unique and unforgettable, including chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers, and champagne service for two upon arrival.

At the Colony Palms Hotel classic charm and contemporary elegance come together in every detail, from the oversized red-rimmed linen umbrellas surrounding the poolside lounge chairs to the croquet games set up along the property. Purple Palm Restaurant and Bar overlooks the garden and the pool, while low hanging lights and overstuffed purple cushions create a lounge-type ambiance where the menu is as timeless as the atmosphere. The Moroccan-inspired Spa at Colony Palms features four treatment rooms, a fitness center, and a professionally trained and certified staff to ensure your every moment is refined and divine. Facials for men and women, massages, salon services, and specialty treatments are available for every ache, pain, and mood, so allow yourself to be pampered. Less than two hours from Hollywood, Disneyland, and the most renowned landmarks in Southern California, the Colony Palms Hotel is ideally situated for shopping, sightseeing, and soaking up the "Golden State's" internationally acclaimed beaches. Or, if you are unsure of where to begin, the hotel's concierge happily recommends the trendiest hotspots or the quiet, intimate spaces to set the mood. At Colony Palms Hotel, Old World glitz and glamour still reign supreme, but today, you are the star.

I was really looking forward to a peaceful and relaxing stay in a beautiful setting, but my experience did not live up to my expectations. While the room and grounds were beautiful, the noise from partying guests outside my room, late into the night, was not only unexpected, but also extremely unpleasant. In spite of the fact that the restaurant was situated a distance away, the hotel staff decided to set up a banquet table in an alcove next to my room. At 10 pm I went to the lobby and complained about the noise. The response was, “Well you know there’s a wedding here this weekend.” Actually no, there was no way to know that there was going to be a wedding there. But the rudeness and arrogance of the staff and the disregard for my comfort as a paying guest, will ensure that I will never return to this hotel.

We stayed 3 nights in a deluxe king room for our 32 wedding anniversary. The property is very pretty and vintage, concrete floors in the rooms that have been painted over. Super comfy bed. The clawfoot tub was nice. We really liked the pool area and the staff was exceptionally nice. We had some issues with 30% gratuities that were automatically added to our spa bill and some bar charges that weren't accurate but every single aspect other that that was really nice. Even the employee that helped us with the bikes went out of his way to be helpful. The staff really makes this place great. We had a bottle of champagne waiting for us when we checked in and a really nice note, made us feel special.

My wife and I stayed three nights in a casita and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay. From the amazing food at the Purple Palm, to the 24hr pool to even the awesome minibar that’s set up in the room, everything was top notch. Hotel is also close to great restaurants and downtown. Highly recommend this place.

Quick getaway from LA. We normally stay at the Parker, but decided to try something new. We loved our stay at the Colony Palms and will be back! We stayed in a king on the second floor overlooking the pool. The hotel was busy, but didn't feel crowded or crazy. Mostly couples and a few (only a few) children. Our room was well appointed-- super comfortable bed, updated room and bathroom, and shower had great water temperature. Friendly staff. Amazing drinks by the pool-- very tasty and great value. Normally for $15 you get a much smaller drink. My only 2 complaints were that the pool and jacuzzi could have used more of a cleaning-- lots of small bugs in the pool. That being said, the water was refreshing and I still went in it. And, secondly, the AC unit in the bedrooms makes a loudish motor sound when turning on, which woke me up a bit (I'm a light sleeper). Again, a very relaxing getaway and we will be back!

Great location, beautiful grounds and lovely rooms. The staff is really friendly and attentive. We were there in late August when everything in Palm Springs is closed, but had a fantastic time anyway. The shower in our room was a little weak, but otherwise everything was spectacular!
