Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, California

Celebrating its inaugural opening in 1936, Palm Springs' Colony Palms Hotel (originally the Colonial House) was a haven for old Hollywood and the international jet set. After careful restoration and renovation, the hotel reopened in 2007 with the bravado of a Prohibition-era speakeasy and the charm of a four-star luxury boutique hotel. With names like Purple Palm Restaurant and "Palme D'Or Residence" paying homage to the hotel's historic past and VIP visitors, the old becomes new again at Colony Palms Hotel. The hotel's 56 guestrooms and suites feature stunning mountain views, oversized bedding with custom designed Turkish Suzani headboards, and Italian linens. Plush white towels and Signature CPH bathrobes offset the cool marble countertops and oversized vanities in the bathrooms, while bath products by C.O. Bigelow create an en-suite spa atmosphere in every room. Your posh accommodations become your personal theater and entertainment center with iPod docking station, high-definition televisions and complimentary wireless Internet. At Colony Palms Hotel you are invited to pursue every pleasure with Indulgences—additional details to make your stay unique and unforgettable, including chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers, and champagne service for two upon arrival.

At the Colony Palms Hotel classic charm and contemporary elegance come together in every detail, from the oversized red-rimmed linen umbrellas surrounding the poolside lounge chairs to the croquet games set up along the property. Purple Palm Restaurant and Bar overlooks the garden and the pool, while low hanging lights and overstuffed purple cushions create a lounge-type ambiance where the menu is as timeless as the atmosphere. The Moroccan-inspired Spa at Colony Palms features four treatment rooms, a fitness center, and a professionally trained and certified staff to ensure your every moment is refined and divine. Facials for men and women, massages, salon services, and specialty treatments are available for every ache, pain, and mood, so allow yourself to be pampered. Less than two hours from Hollywood, Disneyland, and the most renowned landmarks in Southern California, the Colony Palms Hotel is ideally situated for shopping, sightseeing, and soaking up the "Golden State's" internationally acclaimed beaches. Or, if you are unsure of where to begin, the hotel's concierge happily recommends the trendiest hotspots or the quiet, intimate spaces to set the mood. At Colony Palms Hotel, Old World glitz and glamour still reign supreme, but today, you are the star.

Colony Palms has a great location, and beautiful grounds - they pack a lot, very classily and comfortably, into the small lot they occupy. The rooms all are centered around the garden and pool area, which are gorgeous; tiled pathways lead in different meandering directions amid the plentiful trees and bushes, which offer a great deal of shade during the sunny days. We enjoyed the bustling but not overly crowded pool area; a nice-sized Jacuzzi is off to the side and in a couple spots, there are very comfy oversized, multi-group lounging couches which beckon to all who want to hang out; there are enough individual lounge chairs too and I noticed some nice tented VIP type cabanas tucked near the back area that we didn't use. We visited over MLK weekend, so it was crowded, but not so much that it took away from the experience. We had brunch in the small restaurant - would have preferred a table outside under the covered patio, but we sat as close to outside as possible. The food was delicious and service is attentive. Drinks and food prices are on the higher side, but we figured it was the Palm Springs premium. Our room was a nice size and had a decent bathroom - shower pressure was light, but did the job. The bed and pillows were divine, but the one big bummer was our room was right on the road, so we heard the buzz of traffic more than we wished. Also, the single window only let a smidge of light in, so it was a dark room overall. Luckily, we didn't come to PS to stay in our room other than to sleep, so if that has to be our only complaint, I'd say we're doing pretty well. We also were bummed the hotel and spa didn't have a fitness room, but we made do. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and the complimentary valet is a great benefit when many hotels charge exorbitantly for parking. We also received a nice welcome glass of rose and there was delicious complimentary coffee in the mornings. It also is pooch friendly - lots of cute dogs were milling around the pool area and welcome aside an owner at the outdoor tables of the restaurant. I would highly recommend this hotel but would suggest you do not stay in room #2.

We travelled as a family and this is probably more of a couples’ place, but it was still excellent. We had a warm welcome and glass of rose wine even though we arrived Christmas night. The reception recommended a great place to eat. Our room was comfortable with a spacious bathroom and a few adult amenities such as a full bar. The pool area is gorgeous and the Hotel restaurant opens on to it. The food at the restaurant is excellent although the service could be a little hit and miss. This is a lovely, relaxing place to stay and we would definitely stay again.

we came to eat at the restaruant attached to the hote and found the hotel to be charming the pool area is gorgeous and the pool is one of the nicest pools i have seen i the area.t eh cabanas are pretty and well placed. there is a spa that has a separate entrance, and the foliage around the property is really pretty. the onlyy negative comment is that there is no hand rail leading from the mai lobby area to the pool and spa area and restaurant and it is petty uncomfotable without a handrail.

Colony Palms was recommended by local colleague from east coast/west coast; he did not steer me wrong. Early December stay was quiet; staff felt like family that welcomed me into a glamorous old school spa/hotel enclave. I checked in late from east coast flight. I languished in the pool and jacuzzi and soaked the stress away in private in the moonlight. Met the lovely Nicole on property and discussed the wildfires and local family affected over the mountain range during my stay. It was an oasis of calm nevertheless. I will return.

This is one of the best desert hotels we’ve found. Everything is great here. Outstanding service, we’ll-appointed rooms, comfortable bed, perfect location, beautiful grounds, and lovely pool. Sadly,, we didn’t get to try the spa, but I would guess it is great, too. Everything is top notch, which makes for a delightful stay.
