Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, California

Celebrating its inaugural opening in 1936, Palm Springs' Colony Palms Hotel (originally the Colonial House) was a haven for old Hollywood and the international jet set. After careful restoration and renovation, the hotel reopened in 2007 with the bravado of a Prohibition-era speakeasy and the charm of a four-star luxury boutique hotel. With names like Purple Palm Restaurant and "Palme D'Or Residence" paying homage to the hotel's historic past and VIP visitors, the old becomes new again at Colony Palms Hotel. The hotel's 56 guestrooms and suites feature stunning mountain views, oversized bedding with custom designed Turkish Suzani headboards, and Italian linens. Plush white towels and Signature CPH bathrobes offset the cool marble countertops and oversized vanities in the bathrooms, while bath products by C.O. Bigelow create an en-suite spa atmosphere in every room. Your posh accommodations become your personal theater and entertainment center with iPod docking station, high-definition televisions and complimentary wireless Internet. At Colony Palms Hotel you are invited to pursue every pleasure with Indulgences—additional details to make your stay unique and unforgettable, including chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers, and champagne service for two upon arrival.

At the Colony Palms Hotel classic charm and contemporary elegance come together in every detail, from the oversized red-rimmed linen umbrellas surrounding the poolside lounge chairs to the croquet games set up along the property. Purple Palm Restaurant and Bar overlooks the garden and the pool, while low hanging lights and overstuffed purple cushions create a lounge-type ambiance where the menu is as timeless as the atmosphere. The Moroccan-inspired Spa at Colony Palms features four treatment rooms, a fitness center, and a professionally trained and certified staff to ensure your every moment is refined and divine. Facials for men and women, massages, salon services, and specialty treatments are available for every ache, pain, and mood, so allow yourself to be pampered. Less than two hours from Hollywood, Disneyland, and the most renowned landmarks in Southern California, the Colony Palms Hotel is ideally situated for shopping, sightseeing, and soaking up the "Golden State's" internationally acclaimed beaches. Or, if you are unsure of where to begin, the hotel's concierge happily recommends the trendiest hotspots or the quiet, intimate spaces to set the mood. At Colony Palms Hotel, Old World glitz and glamour still reign supreme, but today, you are the star.

A beautiful hotel from a bygone era with excellent service! Very comfortable room and a nice bar and bathroom. The pool is lovely, a nice place to sit near the bar and enjoy special cocktails and food - with a beautiful view of the mountains! We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

This hotel was so relaxing we loved our stay. The Colony is a great central location to the main strip walking distance to great restaurants. The pool is a cool lazy day in the shade or sun if that is what you want. I would recommend this hotel to all travelers. Ask the staff about the history and the mobsters that stayed in the hotel, cool history.

We've returned to the Colony Palms Hotel again for a wonderful getaway over the Thanksgiving holiday. This hotel is a gem and never disappoints...the best place we've stayed in Palm Springs without a doubt. The minute you walk through the front entryway into the lush inner courtyard, it has such a special, calm and secluded feeling — yet you are steps away from both Downtown and Uptown Palm Springs. Have a dog traveling with you? Then this is definitely THE hotel to stay at in Palm Springs, which in general is one of the most pet-friendly places we've ever been with our dog. But the Colony Palms welcomes dogs better than any place else and now provides dog beds in the rooms too. The staff is great — friendly, easy going and attentive. Maddie, who has worked by the pool during our last several visits, was here again, but sadly is moving away. We were happy to be here for her last day — and happy to meet Nicole, the property manager who oversees the hotel so well. We can't recommend this place more highly!

The location of the hotel is on a very busy 4 lane street and we could hear very loud rumbling motorcycles throughout the night, plus a lot of sirens and very loud booming sounds, presumably from very loud music elsewhere. The hotel building and the rooms are only 2 stories high and only a few feet away from the main Indian Canyon Drive road. There was very little rest or relaxation at this hotel with all the very loud motorcycles, sirens, booming bass music, loud trucks, helicopters. The motorcycles in the middle of the night woke us up until about 1am. They were so loud we could feel or hear the vibrations rattling our windows. Even the walls felt like they were shaking. Then at 6:45 am, we were woken again by helicopters. We felt extremely tired over the few days we spent in Palm Springs. This hotel was not a good location for anyone who wants peace, rest, relaxation or to regain any energy. Just the opposite, this location drained our energy and we left more tired afterwards then before we came.

The 24-hour pool is the highlight of the Colony Palms. Great old Hollywood vibe. Beautiful landscaping - flowers and hummingbirds. Good drinks - Too bad it took forever to get one. Lack of service poolside. Kids running around looking busy but didn’t even appreciate tips designed to keep them coming back... Great location- no need for a car. Expensive casita room - not sure what we were paying for...the concrete bunker patio? I will visit Purple and the Colony’s pool again...but not sure I’d stay again.
