About the Hotel

The Korakia Pensione in Palm Springs, a Moroccan villa built in 1924, is a rare find. Scottish painter Gordon Coutts had been in Tangiers, and wanted to bring the style of the North African desert to this Southern California one. “Dar Marroc”, as he called his resulting escape, thus became a cultural oasis for local celebrities from Errol Flynn to Rudolph Valentino, and was restored in 1989 as “Korakia” (“black crow” in Greek). The house is a rare 1918 California adobe, with a keyhole-shaped grand entrance and ornate, Moorish wooden doors that whisper of glamour.

I just loved this place, the staff was amazing and the place is kind magic, by the way, the hotel has a lovely cat, what’s made the difference. I hope we can back soon, very quiet place, easy parking, great breakfast and very clean rooms, lots of olives trees and candles, everything looks amazing

Just ok....definitely not 5 stars.

This place is a real paradox...on one hand it is really nice, peaceful, quiet, charming, on the other hand, it is missing some of the basic requirements to be a 5 start resort in my opinion. We stayed in one of the nicest accommodations they have, with a full kitchen, yet no coffee maker. You have to wait for them to bring coffee around at 7am, which is only enough for about 2 cups of coffee. The only food available is breakfast each day in the courtyard, which is fine, but would be nice to have breakfast in the room and more than 2 options, one of which is granola everyday. It is not quiet. There is a lot noise whether it be crickets in the room, birds chirping in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, road noise, neighbors, etc. It is also very dated, which I get is part of the charm...but there are certain amenities that are necessary to be considered 5 stars and $3500/night in my opinion. Like operational and fast internet. They are using Starlink for internet service, and at best, you might get 15mb/s download speeds. Being able to get a drink, and drink service by the pool. Having doors that keep the bugs out. Our room had 2 of the 4 walls that were able to completely open, but the bottom has huge cracks between the doors and the ground which lets all sorts of fun things come in at night. We both got bit numerous times in our bed one night by something that decided to join us. Charming yes...five stars...no. Worth the price....we won't be going back. The staff is friendly and try's to make the very best with what they have.

The way hotels should be done.

Korakia is what hotels should be. The staff is INCREDIBLE. We were greeted with warmth and a welcome drink. The pool area is gorgeous at night and incredibly peaceful during the day. We were brought coffee in the morning. The rooms/beds were super comfortable. Incredibly happy we stayed here and will hope to return soon.

Most Peaceful Vacation Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Korakia states that peace and quiet are its luxury, and they're not kidding. This is the most relaxing place I've ever been. We've stayed at this beautiful, peaceful spot for the last 15 years and I look forward to 15 more (at least). We'll be back for sure.

A peaceful retreat close to the action

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

A delightful property. I've been to Palm Springs a half dozen times and usually do the hipster swim-club route, which is fun and everything, but the Korakia is different. The rooms are comfortable and full of personality, the staff is earnest and helpful, and the energy is phenomenal. A peaceful retreat from the buzzy noise of Palm Springs, but still like 2 blocks from the main drag. I'll be back.

My husband and I were thrilled to find a deal through Luxury Link making it possible for us to book the Orchard House, the premier room at Korakia Pensione in Palm Springs. We just got back from our trip, having spent 2 wonderful days in that beautiful room. The property itself is gorgeous as well. And all within 2-3 blocks of the main restaurant district on S. Palm Canyon Drive. We walked to dinner every night and when we returned, the romantic grounds are lit by Moroccan-style candle lanterns. It's truly a sight! The pool areas are pleasant and water is available during the day, although they could refill the ice and cups more frequently. We also received complimentary fruit smoothies while laying around the pool. The breakfast was served in the quaint courtyard outside the Mediterranean side of the property. The second morning my husband went over to the office (there are no phones for calling, but it wasn't a big deal) and asked if we could have breakfast delivered to our room. About 15 minutes later a nice gal showed up at our gate with hot breakfast on a tray. The breakfasts were by no means fancy or gourmet, but they were both hot and tasty. And there were plenty of oranges, likely from the citrus grove inside the Orchard House gate. But the best part was our room. The pictures online don't do it justice. The space is large and feels both rustic and luxurious. Once inside the gate, closing a few curtains makes the space completely private. We sunbathed on our veranda and read in the shade of the private citrus grove. It would have been nice to have used the waterfall-fed whirlpool, but it itsn't heated and didn't get warm enough to enjoy. We figure they must change the water after every guest, so if you stayed for a week or if it was summer, the water might get more pleasant. We never used the dining room, but enjoyed have the kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator/freezer. It made it possible to eat lunch of cold cuts, cheese, bread and fruit. The atmosphere was perfect for it and made the vacation more affordable. Overall we had a wonderful time. Korakia Pensione was just the place to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. It's a splurge, but we highly recommend it. -A. Shrive
