Three garden terraces turn the Hotel du Collectionneur into an oasis just north of the Champs-Elysees. The hotel's glamorous Art Deco style is inspired by transatlantic cruise liners of the 1930s – green marble, antiques and elaborate period prints adorn the hallways, and top floor rooms have small balconies from which to behold the city below. Sip on absinthe in an alcove at the glitzy Purple Bar, watching life go by on Rue de Courcelles.

So far, our experience at this hotel has been extremely disappointing. At check-in, the hotel already had rooms available. Since I was traveling with my two young children (ages 5 and 6), I requested either connecting rooms or, at the very least, rooms next to each other. Rather than accommodating what I believe was a very reasonable request for a family, the front desk initially tried to persuade me to take separate ready rooms until they could “find a solution,” which I refused. Eventually, a manager came over and assured me that they would accommodate our request. I agreed, only to be left waiting in the lobby for more than an hour with two exhausted young children after a long journey. During that time, I repeatedly followed up with the front desk and was repeatedly told that I would receive a text message once the rooms were ready. The most frustrating part was that, during my final visit to the front desk, I was told the rooms were already ready. However, instead of simply handing me the keys, the receptionist asked me to wait and then proceeded to assist another guest for around 15 minutes while leaving us standing there. I only received the keys after returning to the desk again to ask for them. To make matters worse, I received the “your rooms are ready” text message about an hour after I had already collected the keys and checked into the rooms. The minibar policy has been equally frustrating. Before arriving, I requested that the minibar be emptied so I could use the refrigerator for my family’s water and children’s drinks. This wasn’t done. When I called housekeeping, I was told it would be taken care of the following day. Later, I discovered that the minibar refrigerator had actually been locked because I hadn’t paid the required deposit. When I explained that I simply wanted to use the fridge for my own drinks, I was told I could leave my items in a refrigerator at the reception instead. Asking guests to store their personal food and drinks at the front desk rather than allowing them to use the refrigerator in their own room is simply unbelievable. To make matters even worse, the hotel only removes the alcoholic beverages from the minibar while leaving everything else inside. If you want the refrigerator unlocked so you can actually use it, you are expected to pay a €150 deposit per night. I’ve stayed at many hotels around the world, and this is by far one of the most unreasonable and guest-unfriendly minibar policies I’ve encountered. This is only our first night, and unfortunately, the experience so far has been one frustration after another. I genuinely hope the remainder of our stay improves, because the level of service we’ve received up to this point has been far below what I would expect from a hotel of this standard.

I was not impressed with this so called 5 star hotels. The showere ran hot than cold. The drain did not work correctly. There was no curtains that could de closed for a dark room. We also had to wait for a long time to get into our room, over 4 hours. We should have our money and stayed somewhere else. We won't do this Hotel again.

We stayed two nights at the Du Collectionneur as part of a Viking group. It's a lovely hotel, in a good position and our room was large with all the facilities you would expect. As part of a big group we did hear grumbles about the breakfast layout, but it managed to cope with a couple of hundred people descending on the dining room almost all at once. Everything was there, its just a matter of finding a table and exploring. There was one disappointment, because of the intense heat the outside dining area is closed in the evening. No matter, we found a very good local restaurant, a stone's throw away. The hotel does have a bar that does food, but it does get booked up and the service is, how shall I put it, leisurely. Very hot summers seem to be becoming normal. Its perhaps an area the hotel should look at, it has a huge, air conditioned dining room, that seems underused. All in all a very nice stay, in the heart of Paris.

The staff is cordial and housekeeping efficient. However the breakfast experience was average...too much rush and same menu all days.
