Well for a five star hotel this place is beyond disappointing on so many different levels. The bottom line is that too many of the staff hate Americans and are rude. Don’t get me wrong, we had some wonderful staff and assistance at the hotel, but we also had several bad ones too. And unfortunately the several bad experiences at this hotel just ruined the visit to Paris. This is supposed to be a high end luxury hotel. I’d find the rudeness unexceptable at any hotel, let alone one that is supposed to be catering to an upper echelon of clientele. When we went to the hotel bar and were ready to leave, we requested our check. People after us requested their checks and received them promptly but we were clearly being ignored. After about fifteen minutes, we requested our check again and again we were ignored. Just like before, other patrons who spoke French had no problem getting their checks promptly. We waited. Again nothing. So for the third time, we requested our check and this time it arrived after about another ten minutes. The total amount of time it took to receive our check was a little shy of an hour. Ridiculous. And to make it worse, it was the bar manager of this hotel who was quite clearly making a point to make us wait. When I complained, he said the the bar was busy and everyone had to wait. I said that this was a lie and that they could check the time stamp on the sales receipts to see that many receipts were being issued before our receipt. It was only ours he refused to give us because we spoke English. This was insulting and the bigger insult was when they didn’t believe that the bar manager did it on purpose. Next, they pretend not to understand what you are saying when they understand. They see you as nothing but a cash machine to take advantage of. This hotel does NOT want your business unless you are French. And they don’t hide it. When we would leave the hotel and request a limo or a taxi, other people would walk out after us and be assisted before us. Very rude! To say that this hotel is inconsiderate understates reality. I could talk about what else happened but at this point it does not matter. If you’re gonna go to Paris don’t waste your money here. Their are many fine hotels who will treat you wonderfully and want you there; just not the Hotel Athenee.

Stayed here for a week of New Year holidays with my husband, two kids and my mother-in-law. 1. Rooms were not ready on time though we arrived at 4pm. Had to wait in the lobby bar which is very disappointing when you have a small kid tired after flight. 2. Room service entered the room of my mother-in-law at night when she was asleep in bed, switched on the light and scared her terribly. The night was spoilt completely. In the morning we talked to a manager. She apologized but strangely suggested that we need to put “do not disturb” sign for the whole night if do not want any guest at night. I always thought that privacy at night is something which goes without saying. Next night we had a visitor in our family room (the whole family including a 3 year old kid was already in bed). The visitor was very persistent in knocking just to let us all know that he brought us a cake! At night! Looked more like a joke. 3. Very chaotic cleaning of the rooms. They will put red hotel-branded ribbons on each of your charger (so you’ll spend a lot of time un-ribboning them), but will forget to make your kid’s bed, just covering the mess with a blanket. 4. Rooms are well-designed and beautiful, but if you wish to take a bath and lie in it, you’ll see ugly pipes under the bath sink not covered with anything.

What an experience this stay was. As a family of four husband and wife and two adult sons we decided to spend Christmas and New Years Eve in Paris and luckily choose to stay at the Plaza Athenee. We booked two deluxe interconnecting rooms to cater to our stay of 12 nights, but were pleasantly surprised when we checked in that we we upgraded to a Deluxe Suite with an adjoining bedroom. The next surprise was that the Hotel had placed a Christmas Tree in the lounge room of the suite. What a classic touch. The rooms were spacious and presented perfectly. Rooms 523 and 524. The view over the courtyard was nice. Next time we stay there we will go for an Ave Montaigne view. The entire staff were fantastic, always helpful and polite and spoke fluent english. The breakfast in the dining room each day was an experience of the highest order. Food and service both top class. Special mention goes to the manager Antoine who was there nearly every day and looked after us very well. The friendly hostess greeted us each morning and remembered our names and room numbers. She was fantastic. Room service was also of a high quality with Lorenzo taking our orders well.We visited La Gallerie several times for drinks and snacks and the food and service was first rate. Overall we loved it and was made to fell welcome. As mentioned my wife and I can't wait to come back to stay there again , and any upgrade to an Ave Montaigne suite would be appreciated !!! Merci.

What happened when the weather is cold and rainy in Paris. You are drawn to one of Paris best hotel for a warm tea and pastry. Thank you to the team of “la Galerie” for the perfect experience. The harp music in the background was very discreet and relaxing. My waiter brought over the desert trolley to my table so I can choose a pastry. He gave me a detail explanation of each desert and even gave me his personal choice, however, I decided to not take his suggestion. The Galerie is long and narrow with column and small alcoves. The pastry Chef Angelo Musa was named the best pastry chef in the world in 2003 and meilleur ouvrier de France in 2007

Paris in Christmas is stunning, the streets the lights, the department store decorations, stunning stunning. We debated if to stay as usual by the Four Seasons George V or to try the Plaza Athenee, we read reviewed and decided to take the gamble, let's start from the beginning. Hotel lobby is nice and impressive but not as the George V, nice flower arrangements and holiday decorations but not as the Four Seasons. 0:1 to the FS. Staff is very welcoming and will do everything to make you feel special, same as the FS. We booked the most upgraded Junior Suites and we got upgraded to a one bedroom suite. (We never got upgraded at the FS). 1:1 tie. Before going up to the room, the hotel manager came to personally greet us and shake our hands. 2:1 to the Plaza Athenee. The one bedroom suite was very very nice, very upscaled and regal but was lacking a coffee machine (you will have one in the FS), also the bath room size and amenities were just a few points away comparing to the FS and we didn't had 2 bathrooms as in the FS. 2:2 tie View was horrible, we we're facing the rear side of the other hotel wing. 2:3 FS But here comes the big BUT the hotel is very very private and peaceful, it's not crowded / noisy and it's gives you a total serenity and privacy atmosphere. 3:3 tie. To summarize, you can't go wrong either way, my wife loved the peacefulness and probably of the plaza while I would probably go back to the FS. There is no clear cut winner here, if you need to be seen and be in a grand grounds you should probably go to the FS, if you don't need the hustle and bustle and you want to be treated like royalty, you should probably choose the Plaza Athenee. One last note, the staff, start to end is amazing !
