A disappointing afternoon tea

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Lovely room, lovely harpist. Unfortunately, we had such a disappointing afternoon tea. We sat at 3 and were able to order quickly. Then weren't even served water until after 3:40. We had to consistently get up and ask for service after letting very long wait times go by. We had the club sandwich, served well after 4, which was served grilled with hot mushy lettuce, so I couldn't eat much as it wasn't appetizing. We finally got our desserts close to 5, which we had to shovel a few in and run. We had to ask for the check as were running late for a train we had to catch later in the evening. We did mention the train earlier in the service when having to ask for sometime to serve us. We were comped a glass of champagne to help out for such a disaster of an afternoon, which I do appreciate, but long story short, I would never return. It was a mess and not worth the time and money. Hopefully, this was just an off afternoon for the hotel.

Stayed at a fraction of the cost and received a fraction of the service.

My anticipation for a stay at the Plaza Athénée, fueled by its reputation as a haven for high-fashion luminaries like Anna Wintour, was met with a reality that fell short of expectations. My time there was markedly average, leading me to conclude that the hotel, despite its prestigious guest list, is somewhat overrated. In comparison, The Peninsula set a higher standard in almost every aspect, leaving Plaza Athénée trailing in its wake. Even four-star hotels I've visited previously offered a more memorable experience, highlighting the gap between expectation and reality at Plaza Athénée. While I cannot comment on the dining, having not availed myself of the hotel’s culinary offerings, the acclaim it has received was one of the few aspects that aligned with its reputation. Unfortunately, this did not extend to the staff interaction. A particularly disheartening experience occurred at the spa, where I was unceremoniously asked to leave while waiting for it to open, only to later be moved to a plainly appointed area when it was time to enter, like this room was bland... the hotel was c lean and comfortable as it should be, It's a peculiar disappointment to find a place celebrated for its opulence and exclusivity to be so distinctly average in its actual guest experience. In conclusion, the Plaza Athénée may carry the allure of celebrity and high fashion, but based on my experience, it lacks the substance and warmth that transform a hotel stay into something extraordinary. Without the draw of a significant event like a ball, or perhaps another discounted stay, I find little reason to return. The search for exceptional hospitality and a truly exclusive atmosphere continues elsewhere, I have no business returning .

Over-Hyped - not worth the money

Dreadful - we stayed 4 weekends in a row and we had to complain each time. We really didn't like doing that and they kept saying things would change and upgraded us etc. But to be honest we just wanted to get the service that this level of hotel should be delivering. Breakfast was very slow, drinks slow in the bar. There is a nightclub in the hotel and some unsavoury going's on in the toilets which I reported

The Plaza Athénée, no, it is no more

The Plaza Athénée, once a haven of peace, the setting for my wedding, sometimes turned into a sanctuary where I savored rare moments of tranquility. There, my family and I found ourselves in a place where security rhymes with quality, where the staff's zeal awakened pleasant memories in me. The Plaza was that for me: a place, a team, service excellence, and exquisite dishes. Alas, that era is over for this once prestigious hotel. On this January 21, 2024, paying seems to equate to humiliating oneself. "Ah, sir, it is 3 PM, please leave, other customers are waiting." Such is the welcome in this Parisian palace, which, like some less noble establishments, imposes a countdown at its tables. Barely two hours, just enough time to enjoy my dessert and settle a 200 euro bill, and there I am, let's say, 'invited to leave' with cowardly elegance. Thus, in a Parisian palace, a customer, his wife, and his two daughters are treated, without the slightest scruple. Never, in thirty years of living in Paris, have I witnessed such a lack of delicacy. It's incredible, but unfortunately true. What sadness to realize the deplorable level of treatment given to customers, this blatant lack of attention. The head of the dining room, grasping the absurdity of the situation, finally offered us a table, complemented by two poufs, after such unworthy treatment, in a vain effort to save face. I confess my astonishment. Astonishment to see this hotel, witness to my wedding, my happy days, treat us with such contempt. It's not a question of people, it's a question of service. We pay for a service. If the hotel is not able to provide it, they should not offer it. What sadness to find oneself facing an establishment that arouses such consternation in me. I think, with regret, that I will no longer cross the threshold of this hotel, now reduced to pricing its services by the hour

From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of luxury, sophistication, and unparalleled hospitality. The attention to detail in every aspect of my stay was truly commendable. The room was not just a space; it was a haven of comfort and elegance. The tasteful decor, plush furnishings, and state-of-the-art amenities surpassed my expectations. Each meal was a gastronomic delight, showcasing a perfect blend of creativity and culinary expertise. The diverse menu and impeccable service further elevated the dining experience. The central location of the hotel allowed for easy exploration of the surrounding areas, adding to the overall convenience of my stay.
