Avoid This Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This place is a dump. The hallway carpeting is dirty and the hallways smell. The furniture in the room is ripped and the curtains are falling down. The rooms are very small and lack a dresser. There is barely enough room for 2 suitcases. Gate 1 travel booked this room for a 3 day trip to Paris following a river cruise. They should have known better than to put us in a dump. I read the reviews on the way from Amsterdam and saw many negative reviews. I agree with the negative reviews. This is not a four star hotel. It’s barely a one. I would not recommend this hotel. Marriott should be ashamed.

Do Not Stay Here

This place is disgusting. We just got off a river cruise and were booked here by Gate 1. Shame on them. The room is small and old. Took 50 minutes to get our luggage. I read many reviews in the way from Amsterdam and got concerned by all the negative reviews. Unfortunately they were correct. So disappointing. Terrible way to end our vacation.

Hot room and no customer service so far

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We are here now. Nice hotel and good breakfast. But our room is suffocatingly hot and could not sleep. We asked several different employees at least five times to check out our room and help with the situation. Each time we were told that maintenance would go to the room and check it but that never happened. We are about to sleep our second night in a hot room. I asked again for help or a fan or for the window to be open. They keep saying they will send someone. We also asked for the body wash and Kleenex to be filled as ours was empty when we checked in. They said they would get it but never did. Housekeeping never came for the day. I called to ask for manager. They said he was busy but would call me and we r still waiting.

Le Méridien Etoile The hotel is not a star!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Hotel: le Méridien Etoile I would rank it 2 stars. The hotel receives the 2 only because most of the front desk spoke English, the service personnel were excellent and the breakfast was excellent with a variety of voices. Other than that... I would not recommend this hotel. I paid nearly $3,000 for this room! and ... 1. I had to request that my room be changed. a. The toilet was uncleaned. Someone had urinated and DID NOT flush and left the seat up. b. The room was dusty c. bathroom sink in several different spots was chipped. I was then assigned a room immediately across the hall from my friends (a plus) 2. Rooms were adequate for 1 but very tight for two persons. In the double room where Rita and Jackie stayed: the hotel only provided 1 chair, though there were two senior people in the room. When another chair was requested the response was "hotel only provides 1 chair per room" regardless of the number of guests. You know hard it is for seniors to pull themselves up off anything low? It is even super harder when the surface is soft... no leverage. 3. It stinks! Sewage leakage or something... "just" the common areas though (first floor entryway and hall ways on the some of the floor pathways to rooms. However, once inside, the rooms were odor-free. I thought it was just the hotel but it must be in certain locations, around the arrondisments, because I smelled the same type of odor when I descended into the Arc de Triomphe's lower level. 3. My room was freezing! I was cold for 6 of the 8 days i was there! I complained on the 1st night, a technician came and told me to change settings. I followed instructions but still nothing worked. By Thursday, I had a cold. I called down in tears that I was freezing and had become ill. I waited and then after I left the room for 15 mins, when I returned, the technician had come and gone and voila!, HEAT! I complained and requested an adjustment to my bill. I was refused. The desk clerk stated only a manager could make any adjustments. The manager told me that they couldn't take anything off because I had gone thru a travel agent to make my reservations! So instead I was offered a drink and a dessert coupon for $9.50 each. Neither were "useable". I am diabetic. So I got nothing for my distress. 🤨

Bland but convenient hotel in Paris

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Filled with tour groups and airline crews, the Meridien is a large modern hotel at the edge of Paris that checks off the boxes of what you need in a hotel but offers very little character or charm. The large lobby feels like an airport (entered through a classic airport revolving door!), hallways are endlessly long, rooms have low ceilings and my room was dark and decorated in shades of black and gray. While relatively large, the room also was poorly laid out with a large empty space without furnishings or a rack to hold luggage. As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum, I was upgraded and given access to the Meridien "lounge" which consisted of a roped off area in the main dining room that was open from breakfast to early evening and included a vey limited buffet spread and access to coffee or drinks that could only be ordered through a single attendant, making it inconvenient to get beverages in a timely manner. I'm not sure if this is the permanent lounge or if this was a temporary set up. It seemed like the latter. On the plus side, the hotel service is attentive, from the front desk to the concierge. There are water dispensers and ice machines (a real rarity in France) on each hallway. The hotel's location seems like it is on the edge of Paris but is actually well connected to the city's excellent transportation network. The Porte Maillot metro stop is at the Palais des Congres across the street and the Etoile is just a 10 minute walk, with access to a huge transit hub (multiple metro lines and RER) as well as the Champs Elysees. Depending on your budget and the differential between rates at hotels in central Paris, the Meridien could be a perfectly good option. Just don't expect to be wowed.
