Hacienda AltaGarcia, Auberge Resorts Collection in Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica
High in the mountains of Pérez Zeledón in the seldom explored southern region of Costa Rica, Alta Gracia is the country’s only “Boutique Hacienda” – that means you’ll get a warm welcome as soon as you land on the property’s private runway. The family behind Alta Gracia has roots in the area dating more than two generations back, and the breathtaking natural surroundings are at the forefront of its design. One glimpse across The Hacienda as the morning fog turns the mountainside into a cloud forest and you’ll understand what Costa Ricans mean by the phrase pura vida.
Inhale the aroma of your rich locally grown coffee as you watch the sun turn the rolling hills below into a blanket of lush green. Amble across trails beside the Calientillo River and arrive at the stable for a morning ride across the valley. Keep an eye out for the vibrant teal plumage of a Resplendent Quetzal in the trees overhead. Plunge into the natural spring water of one of the infinity pools and settle in for dinner made with fruits and vegetables grown in The Hacienda’s own greenhouse.

Excellent service, incredible facilities, amazing views, great selection of wine and wonderful food. Perfect for family with small children as well as for couples or groups of friends. Been there 3 times and is getting better and better.

We were impressed with the beautiful rooms and facilities and the great food. The staff is amazing and did all to make our visit pleasant. Although Perez Zeledon, where the hotel is located, is not a popular tourist destination in Costa Rica, this hotel really is worth the trip! It is really a farm feeling, with the most fancy rooms in the country.

As expected with a 5 star property in the Auberge family, our overall stay exceeded our expectations. The resort common areas, and guest casitas are immaculate and well appointed, very cozy rooms on a rainy day. Spectacular views throughout the property and the best included breakfast ever. We had a slight logistical issue at the beginning of the stay but the manager and EVERY staff member went out of there way to improve our stay and in the process exceeded our expectations left and right until we checked out. The resort is family friendly, the staff was phenomenal with keeping our kids entertained in the Huerta tour, baking cookies with the chef and even making salads with their findings in the garden. The staff makes you feel at home by addressing you personally, even my kids noticed and said, "hey, how do you know my name?!" I absolutely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a 5 star resort and customer service experience. I do recommend signing up for as many activities as your schedule allows, as they are unique to this part of Costa Rica. I will definitely be back soon!

The place was more than we expected. The landscape is beautiful, view to the mountains from every corner. The staff is wonderful and remembers your name! It’s not often that you find a place that has a staff that really wants to make your stay memorable. Our casita was large and beautiful; comfortable bed, great linens, large bathroom and the shower. And the view was wonderful! The property is over 300 acres so lot of room to walk around and not get crowed by other guests. We usually take either city or beach vacations and this was our first mountain stay. The views and the greenery has a magical feel; it gave us better relaxation than at the beach. This vacation was probably our best one. Also it was our first time in Costa Rica so it was extra special. The entire staff from concierge, restaurant staff, golf cart drivers to staff in the spa treated us with true enthusiasm, professionalism and warmth. They were always smiling as were we. This was a wonderful getaway for anyone who enjoys beautiful nature, wants to relax and get spoiled! p To note: We drove to the resort. That took around 4 hours through the mountains from San Jose’s airport. Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes, light weight long sleeve top and close-toe shoes for hiking. Hiking trails are great and very green with great vegetation. Thank you General Manager JP Alfonso, your management team, and staff you are doing wonderful job.

This hotel was well above our expectations in every possible way. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel special with the staff calling us by name and tailoring our experience to us. Everything about this hotel is incredible - the friendly staff, the beautiful grounds, the views, the peaceful atmosphere, the modern and high quality rooms, the food, the activities. We loved it so much we came back just a couple days after leaving because our next destination and accommodation was no match. The drivers from the hotel were quite expensive so we found a great local company - Eco Drivers CR - which we used for many drives and they were excellent and affordable.
