In a city soaked with American history and steeped in rich tradition, The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia brings luxury to this venerable and iconic metropolis. A landmark building in itself, the hotel is a showcase of spectacular restoration and meticulous preservation, and is located in City Center, within steps of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Prepare to be thoroughly impressed, from the moment you enter The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia's striking domed lobby, to the ease with which you lay your head to rest upon your room's sumptuous Egyptian cotton linens. All guest accommodations, of which there are just shy of 300 in number, make an ode to the present with high definition televisions, iPod docks, wireless Internet access, and 24-hour room service, and yet feature a traditional elegance that evokes the city's richly traditional character. Georgia marble bathrooms, soaring ceilings with handcrafted crown molding, oversize picture windows, and views over the city skyline complete the picture of grandeur and grace.

Loved the lobby. But for the big bucks, this view… we would have liked to have been given a heads up. The hotel wasn’t full.

This is a very average hotel with an average staff and average rooms, offered at well above average prices. I checked in for a two night business stay. The room was fine but nothing to write home about—had the feel of a slightly out of date Marriott. I had a good view. I entered and exited the hotel several times —not once was I greeted by the door staff , nor did they offer to assist me with my bags or the door. I was completely ignored. The front desk staff was efficient and not offensive but not especially friendly. Breakfast was pretty good and served promptly. My business finished early and so I had to depart after only one night. I checked out at 930 am and asked them to email the bill. When they did they had charged a $400 early departure fee. This seems excessive and not a way to earn my future business. Although I am only a silver elite Bonvoy member, I stay at some of the most expensive properties. I won’t be staying at this one again.

Sitting in the hotel as I write this. This is a three star hotel dressed up in five star clothing. It has the bones to be great. But it’s the definition of mediocrity. From the service to the wear and tear, it has the feel of a hotel that the owners are running into the ground and don’t care about. Hard to believe that Ritz Carlton allows this to be affiliated with the brand. . . .

Impressive lobby. Great history. Rooms are good, but not great. Lobby bar has a great vibe. Fitness room is not up to modern standards for a 5=star hotel. But I did enjoy my stay and would go back again.

I stayed at the RC Philly in August 2025 for one night. The rate was $500 but that included $180 of hotel credits via the booking service that I use. Given the price, this hotel offers good value (the 4S for the same night was more than double) but it is also not in the same league as other hotels under the RC fascia (e.g. HK or Toronto). The location is superb - just a few minutes' walk from public transport, the City Hall and the historical attractions. The building is equally appealing with a soaring three-storey atrium complete with Corinthian columns and polished marble. It is, however, showing its age. The gym is small with limited equipment and the spa is chargeable (even a trip to the steam room will set you back $25). The restaurant is in the atrium itself and this creates a conflicted space with screens on the wall for sporting events (these belong in a bar) and diners sit alongside those waiting to meet friends. Service is also lukewarm - no one offered to take my bags (I arrived on foot) or to show me to my room. I couldn't see a dedicated concierge, either. The room itself was fine - Philosykus amenities, a separate toilet, bluetooth-enabled clock radio, a very comfy bed and plenty of space. Having said, the iron didn't work (and was not replaced despite my request), there is just a single basin and the decor is just tired. Breakfast is a la carte rather than buffet and has the usual array of western options.
