A high expectation not met

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

As a lifetime platinum elite customer, I have spent many nights in many different Marriott properties. My wife and I wanted a quick overnight getaway - a nice room, room service breakfast - just relaxing away from home We were disappointed 1) check in was fine, with a upgrade to a mini- suite. But access to the concierge lounge. That would be an additional $300. Wow! 2) The suite was less than we expected There are no chairs. A typically uncomfortable sofa bed was the only seating. No chairs. Not even on by the desk. We ended up seated on two footstools/ hassocks to eat breakfast. 3) the bathroom was unimpressive. The bathroom has no space to put our toiletries. No counter space. 4) the bedroom had no electric outlets near the bed. No place to plug in my CPAP machine. Luckily I travel with an extension cord. But that means a cord running about 8 feet across the floor of a dark bedroom. This also means no way to plug in a cell phone next to the bed. 5) the room service menu has a rather odd statement saying how the service charge really does not go to the server so an additional gratuity is encouraged. On the positives: The breakfast was very good. The server was on time and pleasant. (yes we added an additional gratuity) It was a shame we could not enjoy it more comfortably The hotel staff was very friendly and professional. We had a possible issue with the valet that is still being investigated but the hotel staff has been very responsive so far. The lobby restaurant and bar is a great use of space. We had drinks there before and after dinner. Bottom line: not the experience I expected from a high end Marriott property.

Disappointed at the Ritz

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We traveled from New York City down to Philadelphia for a concert and a special night, Lamont Landers at Milk Boy, my Christmas present from my wife. We thought the Ritz was a sure bet. But when we returned from the concert, we found that our shower was unusable. It sounded like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and would only produce extremely cold water. Until we simultaneously turned on the sink, and then we got extremely hot water. It was late, and the noise the shower was making was no doubt waking up our neighbors, so we went to bed and tried again in the morning, getting the same results. We could hear our neighbor’s shower making the same noise. When we went downstairs for breakfast, we spoke to the manager, who said she would look into it and meet us when we checked out. When we did check out, the front desk clerk made no effort to find the manager and had clearly been told to tell us she was in an accounting meeting. We had to shower when we got home. As people who have used Ritz hotels as a frequent local weekend escape, and as our hotel of choice for distant vacations, we are extremely disappointed.

Highly recommend!

This property is the perfect example of my initial memories of my introduction to the brand 25 plus years ago. The lobby is magnificent, the rooms typical of city properties are not large but functional and well appointed. We stayed on Club Level and were pleased with the offerings. The staff was welcoming and professional. I look forward to my next visit.

Poor Security and will never stay here

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We visited the Ritz Carlton to meet family that was staying there. We reserved for Brunch at their Richard Sandoval property restaurant. Dining experience was poor, but the real failure was the 35 minute wait for the Ritz Carlton valet to bring our car to the front. During our wait, we were accosted by an unstable street peddler who proceeded to spit on our party. No security or Ritz Carlton staff were present outside. Once we highlighted the problem, 4 different staff appeared outside in inconsistent levels of dress. This tone is clearly representative of the lack of management leadership. I’m a Platinum Elite with Bonvoy and the Ritz Carlton brand appears to be dropping towards Westin territory. I have 2 more booking with Ritz Carlton properties over the coming 2 weeks and will see if this is a Ritz Philly issue or wider problem. After reading other reviews, management is an issue, and will stay elsewhere where there is more consistency across properties.

A faultless hotel with a very special staff

A gorgeous hotel with incredible service. The staff is so warm and friendly and everyone we encountered went out of their way to make our stay spectacular. We were upgraded to a fantastic room with a wonderful view and much appreciated space. We’ll be back soon, we hated to leave!
