A Unique Stay on a Spectacular Bay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

The Surin sits on an incredible, pristine wide beach shared with just one other hotel, easily one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Rooms are spread organically through the hillside, all facing the sea, almost like elegant treehouses, with a simple, pleasant design, extremely comfortable beds and lovely views over the bay. The pool is just steps from the shore, and both the beach bar and the two restaurants offer great food in atmospheres ranging from casual to more refined. Breakfast is generous and delicious. Staff are exceptionally kind and the service is flawless. The only downside is that some rooms require long walks and many stairs. We were lucky to be moved close to the beach, but the first room offered was far too high and difficult to reach. Overall, The Surin is hard to beat. Its location and its extraordinary beach make it truly unique.

Yes this is the place

f you’re an 80-year-old man who walks with a cane or has serious mobility issues, this resort is probably not for you. I’m 69 with mild emphysema, and it was perfectly manageable for me, but be warned: there is no way to get anywhere on this property without going up or down a long series of stairs. Period. This is one of the nicest resorts I’ve ever stayed at. Thai people in general are more considerate than Americans, but even with that in mind, I was amazed at the level of service here. After four days, I still couldn’t believe how every single staff member genuinely wanted to help you and truly seemed glad you were there. We stayed in a one-bedroom cottage that I believe was called the Superior level. It was close to the lobby, which helped reduce some of the stair climbing. Getting down to the beach and back up does require a lot of stairs, but every step was worth it. The cottage was immaculate. The bed was extremely comfortable. The layout was smart and thoughtful. One of my favorite things was the air conditioning. In most hotels the AC is loud, the compressor kicks on and off all night, or the vents blow directly on the bed so you wake up with a dry throat. Not here. This system was quiet and steady, just gentle airflow across the cathedral ceiling. It cooled the room perfectly without hot or cold spots. The second room, which included the toilet, sinks, shower and changing area, was generously sized and beautifully designed. The hotel photos make it look like the room comes with a small 24-inch TV, but the one in our room was at least twice that. I’d estimate around 47 inches, high-definition, and very nice. The beach was absolutely amazing. The water was crystal clear, the temperature was perfect and it was one of the most relaxing beach experiences I’ve ever had. I am not usually someone who sits on a beach all day, but I did every day because it was that enjoyable. When I return to Thailand, I will absolutely stay here again. Breakfast was everything you’d expect from a true five-star resort and the evening meals were excellent as well. We rented a car so we could leave for lunch or explore, but keep in mind that the resort sits by itself. You cannot simply walk from your room to grab something to eat or shop somewhere. If you want to go into town or visit other beach areas, you will need transportation. Overall this was one of the finest resort experiences I’ve ever had. There are a lot of stairs, but every step was worth it.

Excellent resort and a fabulous family wedding

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We visited the Surin late October for a family wedding and a bit of beach R & R. This was our first experience of Thailand and it was a very enjoyable one. The resort staff were first class, polite, attentive and couldn't do enough for you. The room we'd been allocated (room 321) was lovely, with a partial sea view. The breakfast buffet was superb, as was all the food to be fair. The 4 night experience was truly fabulous and the wedding was exceptional. The memories will last forever. We loved the private beach, pool area and beach bar. The only little issue was the amount of steps to get to and from your villa but we were warned beforehand and the buggy staff did their best to take you as far as they could on 4 wheels.
