Tshukudu Bush Lodge in Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa
Marvel at the grandeur of wide open plains. Savor the flavors of African cuisine. Ponder the magnificent silence of the bush around a blazing evening fire. This is a typical day at Tshukudu Bush Lodge, in Pilanesberg National Park just a few hours north of Johannesburg. This Legacy Hotels & Resorts International affiliates, whose name means "place of the rhino," features six luxury cottages and an individual private balcony ideal for potential sightings of over hundreds of bird and animal species--including the Big Five.
Not only will you have the chance to glimpse cheetahs, hippos, crocodiles, sables and nocturnal brown hyenas on game walks and drives, you'll witness dramatic rock structures. The park is situated in the eroded vestiges of a volcanic crater, one of only three such craters in the world. Competing for your attention are Stone and Iron Age sites scattered throughout the park. As well, you can take advantage of recreational activities such as golf and water sports in nearby Sun City.

Reviews for Tshukudu Bush Lodge
This lodge was excellent. The staff and rangers were all very friendly and the "rooms" overlooked the waterhole which meant you could game view without leaving the lodge. The food was excellent and with all guests eating together very friendly. We were lucky enough to have Werner as a ranger and managed to see the Big 5, including a daylight sighting of a leopard in one day.

We stayed for two nights at Tshukudu and I almost can't find the words to describe what an amazing experience it was. All the staff from start to finish were impeccable. The accommodation is stunning, clean, well equipped and the views amazing. The wildlife is stunning and our guide, Werner, was excellent. Words fail me sometimes so JUST GO and see for your self. Set in what I like to call Noahs Ark! Pilansberg South Africa is a haven for wildlife. A successful protection programme means you can see the animals on your 2x daily Safari drives. The Lodge is seated in cliffs overlooking a waterhole that is visited by animals throughout the day- it's a beautiful unforgettable view that I will cherish for life. The chalets are charming. Thatched roof, stone walls accompanied by chandeliers & a coffee machine! With a bath and a balcony I was in heaven. Not to mention an endless bar fridge! The service is fantastic. The drinks are free flowing. The food freshly prepared & presented by the resident chef- awesome. Best of all was my guide Alli. What a fantastic ambassador for South Africa. Alli is knowledgable, articulate & passionate. Her hospitality enhanced by her beautiful smile & gentle nature. Alli is sensible and safe at all times, this enhances your African Big 5 experience. Shawn the manager of Tshukudu is a veteran of the African bush. After 20 years her enthusiasm has not waned & she is still excited and out with her camera when a lion pride of 7 visits nearby to the lodge. I would like to say THANK YOU to the staff of Tshukudu Lodge for a wonderful experience. Thank you for the candlelit dinners, the sunset drinks in wonderful escarpments, the joy at helping us see the animals, the endless patience while I tried to get a photo or video using just my IPhone. Most of all THANK YOU for creating a holiday I will cherish the memory of forever Special regards Louise & Randal Jones

Tshukudu bush lodge holds a special place in my heart as a truly wonderful lodge, set within its own concession within the Pilanesberg game reserve. One can on occasions watch lion, elephant and rhino along with the general plains game from either the main lodge deck or your own well appointed rooms. The staff ensure you are well looked after and nothing seems to be too much trouble. I'd highly recommend this lodge to anyone who's looking for a bush escape.
Thsukudu is hands down my favourite lodging in Pilanesberg NP. That said this lodge is not for the faint at heart, or the unfit. Tshukudu offers a limited number of Chalets and Deluxe Suites strewn and perched around a granite kopje. The camp is unfenced and game can and does roam by. To reach the main area you have to contend with 132 steps, which you will need to contend time and time again every time you go on a game drive. Your reward is uncompromising vistas, privacy, silence, a concession to your own and a constant sense that anything can be spotted round the next bend. The Chalets are furiously cute, compact, practical, cozy and comfortable. The deluxe suites are more spacious, decadent and pampering in all senses. A swimming pool at the top of the kopje offers a blessed reprieve in hot days, and a green oasis to lounge and read or sip cocktails in the heat of the day. The main lounge/bar area offers phenomenal views and most inviting sofas to perfect the art of āsofariā. Meals are had in the dining room, together and around a long table, in a concerted effort to bring all guests together and enjoy the delectable food produced by its highly skilled chefs and kitchen staff. Lovely, Ally, could be your ranger, a soft spoken, eagle eyed, most knowledgeable and kind natured ranger guide with a hunger for knowledge and a passion to share the African bush whilst she dreams of furthering her career in marine biology. Tshukudu, is beautifully positioned in the park, not far from the main gate, and picking all its guests from its sister lodge Bakubung. It does come at a higher price tag than Bakubung, but there is no doubt you are paying for a very special product, privacy, intimacy and a singular safari experience in every sense of the word.
