Wine aficionados rejoice. Once a lodge for storing port wines in the 17th century, Vintage House Hotel is now a stylish sanctuary in the quiet town of Pinhao in Portugalâ€(TM)s Douro Valley. Poised on the banks of the Douro River, this member of Relais & Chateaux combines sophisticated lodgings with such gourmet pleasures as an acclaimed fine dining restaurant, cooking classes and a wine academy. Rustic origins give the hotel its distinctive character, while urbane hospitality ensures a pampered stay.

Hotel is perfectly located, rooms are spacious, updated, clean and comfortable. Breakfast excellent and in general, friendly staff. We also had dinner in the restaurant one of the nights during our stay and it was good but nothing more than average. Staff training could have been better and the service at the pool, while delivered with a smile, was way too slow (almost 30 minutes to deliver a drink). A gift from friends delivered to the room was without identification of who had provided it, rather the room service waitress said it was a gift from the hotel.

A lovely hotel with exceptional views across the vines across the Douro ,and of the many boats moored at the dock . Comfortable room with king bed and 2 armchairs to sit in Very good breakfast ,but we were advised not to eat at the night restaurant as it was overpriced for the average food Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend

We absolutely loved our stay at the Vintage House in Douro. The hotel team was extremely helpful from before we arrived (sending recommendations for wineries, restaurants, viewpoints, booking transportation, timely responses, etc.) and continued their top-notch service throughout the stay. The hotel is well-located by the Pinhão train station for those traveling by train from Porto. Our room was comfortable, breakfast was great, and the hotel has several dining options on-site. Highly recommend Vintage House when visiting the Douro Valley.

Overpriced Tasteless Food - the restaurant was completely empty but the staff refused to let us sit at a 4 person table that had a view because there were only 2 of us. Had the cod fish which was absolutely awful. Cod was dry and chewy. Potatoes were dry and tasteless. The greens were also very chewy and hard to swallow. Everything was over-salted. Worst eating experience of my whole trip to Porto.

In the world of travel, not all surprises are pleasant. My recent stay at The Vintage House Hotel was a stark reminder of this. Advertised with a charm that hinted at nostalgia, the reality was a far cry from what was promised. Here's a breakdown of my experience: • Aged Beyond Charm: The hotel, including my room, was not just "vintage" but profoundly old and dated. A step back in time, but not in a good way. • Cleanliness & Comfort: My room was not only dirty but carried a persistent smell of mold. It was a clear sign of neglect and a lack of maintenance. • False Advertising: The pictures and descriptions that wooed me were misleading. The reality was a room that felt forgotten by time, without any of the promised luxury. • View: The only view from my window was a collection of old cars, hardly the scenic vista one might hope for during their stay. • Sleepless Nights: A surprisingly bright fire alarm light above the door pierced the darkness, making sleep impossible. • Service & Management: Encounters with the hotel staff and management were beyond disappointing. Issues were met with gross indifference, and my concerns were not adequately addressed. • Corporate Indifference: Seeking resolution, I reached out to the corporate office, only to be met with a dial tone. My call for help was literally hung up on. To fellow travelers, consider this a cautionary tale. The allure of "vintage" hides a reality of neglect, indifference, and disappointment. My advice? Stay far away from The Vintage House Hotel. There are countless options where your general hygiene, guest comfort and satisfaction are a priority. Sadly, this hotel is not one of them.
