I went with a friend through Secret escapes. Great trip as the hotel is not far from a rail station. We stayed for four nights and used the hotel as a base for doing the travelling which we had in mind. In the five days we stayed we managed to go to Pisa to see obviously the leaning tower and cathedral. My favorite trip though was to Lucca which was not very far by train. We also went by train to Cinque Terre which is very beautiful and made up of villages nestled into the mountains overlooking the sea. Apart from the travelling we loved being around the open heated pool particularly being spoilt by Guiseppe he was absolutely fabulous and will do anything to help your stay be memorable. We were unfortunately in a rush when leaving and did not get to say good bye to him. He really is worth talking to.

As we arrived by car Tuesday after midday, we circled the village as we could not access the hotel because of the local market and the blocked street. We choosed the hotel because of its location, close to the railway station and half way on the line between Pisa and Lucca. We had quite high expectations as it is a LHW 5* resort. Once the receptionist saw us she took an aggressive stance, changing it to a more welcoming one once she was told about our booking. After a copy of our passports taken, we were asked to sign under a sheet of very small fine print with legal considerations about the privacy of our personal data. Then we were asked about our shoe size, yes shoe size for the slippers which are provided with bathrobes. It took me quite some time to connect to the wifi, having to input an email address on top of the usual IDs, and then had to disconnect security features on the computer and enable cookies. Then got a message on the screen saying ‘your connection is not secure'. Once over with it the operating its speed was decent. We got help to carry our luggage. No welcome drink. The soaking in the outdoor hot pool was excellent. Sunbathing was annoying as they were many flies. The hotel consists of a main building with the restaurant on top floor and a bar on the second. It is flanked by wings with the rooms. It was renovated with panache some years ago, but already shows signs of ageing, like the flickering led lights in the corridors. An unmonitored parking is located in front of the hotel. Behind the hotel there is an outdoor bar and a path climbing trough an olive grove, up to a gloriette with a nice view. This park is not anymore maintained. The spa has several pools outdoor and indoor. Steam bath, sauna etc. and a long list of available services at high cost. Our room, a junior suite, was on two levels. At the lower level the only windows open on the corridor, which faces the cliff on the North of the hotel. The lower level had a small living room awith a minibar and the bathrooms, with the shower in the tub. No view from the room. We were not happy with the noisy central ventilation and complained. According to reception, it cannot be adjusted separately for each room. So we used ear plugs. There were two small TVs in our suite, set up with 45 programs, but only 5 in English versus 10 in Arabic. At breakfast we found a buffet with a choice of food. We had better breakfast in 3* hotels in Italy. Service was not at top, we had to insist and remind the waiter to bring us a second serving of coffee, and took quite some time to get soft boiled eggs. We did not visit the restaurant. There are several restaurants nearby. Returning to our room the second day, we found a welcome card with fruit and mineral water. At our the last night the hotel was apparently full, with a Russian speaking group. The towels in the room, changed even left on the rack, were then old and raspy. At checkout their was an undue charge for drinks we did not order on our bill, and it was removed immediately without much checking. Nobody was there to hold us the door as we walked out loaded with luggage.

We visited bagni di pisa in august this year and loved it, the reception staff were great and very helpful and staff genuinely through the whole hotel, the spa was amazing and the massages were to die for. We went half board and although it does seem expensive I would definitely do it again as otherwise buying your meals full price would cost a fortune. The breakfast was good apart from nearly every morning you had to wait for the croissants to be cooked and then they were gone within seconds. Also at the evening meal our waiter that was in charge of us forgot about us and we sat for 45 minutes with a menu and had not ordered. The pools were very nice and I think wearing the swimming caps was a great idea, overall we really enjoyed our stay and explored pisa and lucca which were a few minutes on the train each way. The only downfall was there was no restaurants in the little town so the nearest would probably be Pisa but we ate at night at the hotel anyways.

With two other friends we stayed just for one night in this amazing hotel that we will remember for a long time. Of course the spa facilities are just great but it is the superb and very friendly staff that have made the difference. The lady at the reception after taking our names went up to show us our rooms while explaining all the things we could do at the hotel. The barman, the waiters at the restaurant and Alessandra one of the spa ladies were so friendly that we were very impressed! The rooms very large and furnished with lavish taste. A real value for money stay.

The pictures show a beautiful old building conveniently located between Lucca and Pisa. Also Leading Hotels of the World membership is raising expectation on the quality and service We stayed here 2 nights and have following summary: +the thermal spa with natural ca 35 degree water is excellent and included in hotel price. Especially the 18% salt pool felt really relaxing + generally rooms are in great shape and reflect the old style but in very nice way + reception very helpful + good location to tour the region provided you come with car So why only 3 star: - the restaurant food quality is awful. We took a late lunch from the ala carte menu (they also have a buffet menu) and the salad and soup was poor. In 5 star hotel you can expect higher standard. We even met one waiter dining in neighbouring restaurant at lunch time... - the breakfast also mediocre at best. E.g juice tastes really strange, pancakes etc are all only available at additional cost - many of hotel guests are dining in bath robes during breakfast but also lunch - in spa area maybe but in didining room ? - maintenance of the area could be better as there is quite some sign of wear and tear. -Gym closed until further notice As always the rating is personal experience and price quality is what matters. We got these rooms at ok price but as said 5 star, leading hotels of the world usually gives a better experience.
