The Sanctuary Condominiums in Playa Azul, Costa Rica
Extraordinary and eco-friendly, The Sanctuary Condominiums is a place to go to remedy the stresses of everyday life. Located in Playa Azul, this seaside Costa Rica resort features a collection of rooms, villas and cottages that captures the essence of tropical flavor through its design and carefree philosophy. Discover spacious accommodations with eye-popping hues and a choice of single or multiple bedrooms. Traveling families may want to consider a stay in the resort's Villa de Los Reyes, a sprawling 5000-square-foot Mediterranean-style estate with a gourmet kitchen, four bedrooms and an equal number of baths - plus a private rooftop terrace with gourmet barbeque and built-in lounge furniture.
Activities at The Sanctuary Resort & Spa can be as simple as strolling from your front door to the beach, or - for the more rigorously inclined - a hike along winding pathways that lead to the exotic Guanacaste regional forests. Tranquility is a contagious state of mind at the resort, and guests are often found swaying in hammocks while listening to monkeys glide through the treetops. Lounging by the infinity-edge pool is another favorite pastime, as is sipping hand-pressed Costa Rican coffee from the comfortable confines of your roomy porch. The resort offers a pair of sumptuous restaurants that further promotes a sense of calm with open-air settings. Choose to dine ŕ la carte or simplify your stay with an all-inclusive escape. The day slowly gives way to night where a star-filled sky sets the stage for a fabulous evening. A beach bonfire and glass of wine is just one of many ways in which to celebrate the transition.

Reviews for The Sanctuary Condominiums
My husband and I wanted to getaway for our Ten Year Anniversary. We chose The Sanctuary for it's remote location, we did not want to be in a touristy area with tons of people. We found it here! Beautiful grounds, tropical plants, fruit trees and amazing wildlife. Each unit is individually owned and is decorated differently. Our unit was a complete two bedroom Condo with two master baths, complete kitchen and laundry room. Our balcony covered both bedrooms and the living room, the view of the ocean was breathtaking. There was a T V but we were so busy that we did not even use it the whole week. We had access to wi fi but only used it to back up the photos of our trip. There are two swimming pools, one right outside our unit. We had privacy almost the entire time. We were greeted each morning with a troop of Howler Monkeys outside our bedroom along with numerous types of birds, the monkeys talking and the birds singing. Every evening as the sun was setting the monkeys would come out to play again. Playa Azul is a beautiful beach with black volcanic sand. Less than a five minute walk to the beach, a section has big rocks to climb on another section great to sit in the sand and the waves wash over you. Good waves for surfing, but too rough to swim in. Sunsets To die for. Carl greeted us at check in. He brought us to our "tropical paradise" to show us around. He had an arrangement of flowers on our table picked from the property. He gave us fresh fruit, local guava cookies and the special welcome cocktail...Cacique, Guaro with Coco lopez. Yum!!! This is a place to come to if you want to get away from it all-slow down, Enjoy the good things in life. The resort is in a REMOTE location. To make the most of your trip I recommend a 4x4 car rental. The roads are dirt roads and you may have to drive through water to cross certain areas. Don't be surprised if a cow or horse jumps out in front of you. There are shuttles and tours but we loved having the flexibility to explore on our own. There is a small town south of The Sanctuary called San Juanillo, a small store, a few sodas(local restaurants) and a different type of beach with white sand in a cove with great snorkeling. To the north of The Sanctuary another small town called Marbella, also a store, a few sodas, a hardware store with a garage , we had a flat tire and had it fixed there. Marbella Beach is a really cool place to watch the Surfers. No nightlife here. If you desire more of a "tourist feel" you can make a day trip and go south about an hour to Samara or north about an hour to Tamarindo. Carl can arrange for any type of tour that you would be interested in. Horseback riding, Volcano, Hot springs, snorkeling, turtle, zip lines, whitewater rafting, atv etc Would recommend this place to anyone that is adventurous and looking to explore the basics of life. Learn to appreciate wildlife and plants and to truly enjoy the one that you are with.

We arrived at the Sanctuary which was extremely remote and isolated. The unit was adequate. There were no amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, or body lotion, and only one bar of soap in each bathroom. When we asked for additional soap for the shower, we were told that this wasn't a resort, it was gourmet soap,so we would need to pay for any additional soap. We got this unit through Marriott Interval, which definitely refers to it as a resort The first night we attempted to get to the adjoining hotel. The directions Carl gave us were so vague. We never found it. Of course, the fact that there are few , if any lights on the roads didn't help!!! We never saw Carl after the first day. Jon, the assistant manager was helpful. We spent our days at the Azul Ocean Club. It was lovely Beach access was limited. We paid for internet service. We left $100 cash security, which we received when we checked out. Our unit had few towels, and was missing beach towels. We enjoyed Costa Rica, and will return, but not to the Sanctuary!!!

Please contact this resort, so relaxing and clean. full kitchen and laundry facility, spacious rooms. Each unit with 2 king bedrooms with own dedicated bathrooms. The hardest decision of the day was 'which beautiful nearby beach you wanted to go to for a beautiful view the sunset. Carl is amazing, talented and above all will go out of his way to provide the best experience possible. He even set me up with a in-room massage. Outstanding customer service. I highly recommend this resort. I went with girlfriends and we attended the Volcano tour with other guests. So much to do and see. 6 days was not enough time.

This was our second time staying at The Sanctuary. I offered my daughter the choice of either a Sweet Sixteen party or a trip anywhere in the world. She chose to return to Costa Rica - specifically, The Sanctuary. The beach is peaceful and the sunsets breathtaking. Carl, Jon, Victor, Diego - just a few of the staff that go above and beyond to ensure your stay is a memorable one. The condominiums are very spacious, clean, and the views breath taking. Air conditioning is a welcome plus. Full kitchens, and washer/dryer. Nature is abundant in its natural habitat. From the vast beautiful colorful birds, to the Howler Monkeys, to the ocean full of sea life, the stars at night... so many you just can't count... so much to see, appreciate, and explore. Everyone is so friendly - you are treated like part of the family... no tourist trap here! Just Peace, positive vibes, perfect place to unplug from the hectic world! We are definitely considering purchasing here. Pura Vida

Had an amazing week at the Sanctuary from 4/8-4/15! Although it was Easter week and spring break IN Costa Rica (who knew?), we (2 adults, 2 kids ages 10 and 15) had a fabulous, beautiful, relaxing stay at The Sanctuary. The staff is so nice and helpful - especially Carl, who works like crazy at the resort to keep everything clean and everyone happy! Carl will help you book activities and provide restaurant tips. He goes above and beyond (even took care of me with a care package when one night, I was not feeling great). We had so much fun zip lining, horseback riding (right from Condo), snorkeling, and just walking on the beach looking for sea glass! Saw dolphins, beautiful birds, and lots of monkeys right off our back deck (condo #7). Our condo was very spacious, very clean, and had everything we needed ncluding an unbelievable view of the ocean and spectacular sunsets! Shout out to the rest of the crew - John, Diego, Victor - who where always helpful and smiling even in the 95 degree heat of the day! They strive to keep the grounds clean and guests comfortable. We recommend the Sanctuary highly!! - truly an amazing place to connect to your inner self, completely relax and experience Pura Vida!
