Beautiful property and great atmosphere. Staff is overall very friendly and engaging and remembered my name and order from the previous day. The breakfast team in Oriente is very nice with Marco and Edson as stand-outs. Marisol the hostess was very kind and knew exactly where we wanted to sit each morning. The bar team at La Copa is great. Irving, Oscar, Armando, Freddy, Sergio were on top of everything, remembered our orders from the previous night, and showed us new drinks. They went hunting for a specific wine that they found out we really enjoyed. Great hustle! Sands Beach Club is a really nice spot. The first time we went, service was a little slow but the second time, the guys were on top of it. They were really nice and attentive. When we got back from eating lunch, they had proactively changed all the towels and brought an ice chest with beers in it, ready for our return. Excellent anticipation and service. The food is very good overall and we had some excellent dishes. Saffron and La Copa were excellent. One thing to note about low season is that some of the restaurants are totally closed or are closed on certain days. This was never communicated until we tried to book them for a particular night. We did a Thai cooking class and the Haab which were both excellent and a lot of fun. However, the Haab was cancelled the original day we wanted to go and the Latin Beach BBQ was also cancelled due to lack of attendance. The hotel was very clear from the beginning this was possible and you have to wait until the day of to confirm. They said that multiple times so it was not a surprise, but it was still a minor inconvenience to have to reschedule other things in order to be able to do these experiences. Only other minor inconvenience worth noting is the bottled water in the rooms. At check-in, there were only 2 bottles for 2 people which seems strange given you can't drink the water. Each day, I had to request extra water and sometimes that was only 2 more. By the second or third day of a 7 day stay, I would have expected someone to pick up on that and do it proactively instead of me having to remind them, just to make sure the water was there when we returned. Overall it is a great property with a nice staff.

We stayed at Banyan Tree Mayakoba as a family and had a very good experience overall. The property is beautiful, peaceful and extremely pleasant, with a relaxed luxury atmosphere that we really enjoyed. The villas are beautiful, spacious and very comfortable, with a real feeling of privacy. They also feel fresh and well maintained — very different from our experience at Banyan Tree Phuket, where the villas felt noticeably more dated. The pools in the villas were incredibly spacious. Not the usual plunge pool you will see in many hotels. One of the highlights for us was the beach club. It is really excellent: calm, comfortable, beautiful and very enjoyable, with a wide beach and a great pool area. The restaurant by the beach was also very good. We actually visited Rosewood Mayakoba during our stay, which is generally considered the most upscale property in Mayakoba, and we were surprised not to be particularly impressed by its beach and pool area. It felt much busier and noisier, the pool was crowded, and the beach itself seemed noticeably narrower. In comparison, we much preferred the atmosphere, space and layout at Banyan Tree. The kids club was also excellent. It is not one of those enormous, spectacular kids clubs, but the team working there was wonderful and the children really enjoyed spending time with them. Given the size and positioning of Mayakoba, it could perhaps benefit from a small water-play or splash area for younger children, but that would really be an additional plus rather than a major criticism. Breakfast was good, and overall the food we tried was of a good standard. What we appreciated most was the atmosphere: upscale but relaxed, family-friendly without feeling hectic, and with enough space that the resort never felt overcrowded. The hotel Overall, Banyan Tree Mayakoba offers a very complete luxury resort experience and, for us, the beach and pool environment was actually one of the strongest in Mayakoba. We would happily return.
