Reviews for Banyan Tree Mayakoba

Amazing service and atmosphere!

Our experience at Banyan Tree was amazing for our honeymoon! Our personal concierge, Jose, was amazing and so knowledgeable and helpful coordinating golf cart transportation for every dinner we had. One morning I was feeling congested and his partner Francisco was able to arrange for medicine to be delivered from a pharmacy under an hour. Amazing service all around! Will definitely be back!

Best Experience

My husband and I had the best time at Banyon Tree. The property is beautiful. Food was delicious. Service was impeccable- especially Juan (Butler) and Gamaliel (Beach waiter). We would rate the whole experience as 10/10!!

Enjoyed it Much More Than Expected!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 15 hours ago

Just returned from a five night visit and Mayakoba Banyan Tree greatly exceeded my expectations overall. We had reserved a Bliss Villa but were upgraded to one of the six over-water villas on the lagoon thanks to American Express FHR (plus getting lucky in terms of availability.) I thought this made a huge positive impact on the entire experience since being based in the beach part of the resort (check out the property map) is like being in a sparsely-populated "resort within the resort" based around the beach and the Sands Beach Club (which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.) This is located about a 15 -20 minute walk (or 5 minute bike ride on the provided bicycles or else via via arranged golf cart) from the main part of the resort. That's where most of the restaurants, fitness center, spa -- and also any corporate events taking place -- are located. There were minor housekeeping glitches but the villas are 2000-3000 SF so give them a pass on those -- everything remedied quickly and ours did not seem dated plus was cleaned thoroughly twice daily. Both the plunge pool and outdoor whirlpool were crystal clear throughout our stay. As other reviewers note, the food is breathtakingly expensive on site but we found the quality high and ate nearly all of our meals at The Sands Beach Club which was steps from the villa. Kudos to Chef Rafael there whose nightly specials could hold their own at a NYC restaurant in terms of creativity and execution. We also ate at Saffron one night (Expensive but tasty Thai food in an beautiful waterfront setting) and also the Thursday night weekly Beach BBQ at the Rosewood which was one of our favorite meals. Fitness center/gym well-equipped and maintained. Be sure to look at the map of Banyan Tree and the entire Mayakoba complex which consists of Rosewood, Fairmont, rebranded Alila, as well as Banyan Tree. We visited all four and thought the Banyan Tree was the best design of the four, Asian-inspired design that reminded us of Bali. The beaches here (and throughout Riviera Maya) suffer from erosion and extensive sargassum seaweed although at Banyan Tree they cleared out an area for swimming each day so it is possible even if not picture-postcard beach views (also not a beach for long strolls.) Pools are uncrowded, clean and clear, plenty of loungers. What really impressed us most was the huge amount of space (600 acres) that has been so beautifully developed and maintained at Mayakoba -- lagoons and pathways wind through 600 acres, for walking and biking, carts and boats available on call -- and illuminated at night. A lot of money has clearly been spent to create this -- and for the army of people who maintain it daily -- so the prices are high, but for the most part, worth it relative to what they deliver. As has been our experience throughout Mexico over decades of travel, the Mexican people are warm, wonderful hosts and we found this especially true here.
