Banyan Tree Mayakoba

We chose Banyan Tree Mayakoba for our 25th wedding anniversary, expecting world-class service, thoughtful touches, and the caliber of experience you would assume when paying a five-figure sum for a so-called luxury stay. Instead, we were left appalled, frustrated, and ultimately heartbroken at how poorly we were treated. The most unforgivable offense was the excursion sold directly through the resort - pitched to us as a “Luxury Sunset Cruise" and "Mayan Adventure Snorkeling Experience.” What we actually endured was nothing short of a cheap, tacky booze cruise, and with the other trip, there was no snorkeling at all, just being asked to “hold your breath” underwater, the guide actively discouraged us from using snorkels and only on the last of three pools were we told we could buy them in the gift store for $1, with all our belongings locked on a bus. We were forced to pose for endless photos as part of the upsell scam also. We felt blatantly misled, and it was humiliating to realize that Banyan Tree had endorsed and sold this as a premium, curated experience. To say it ruined the spirit of our anniversary is an understatement. When we raised our concerns, the so-called “resolution” was insulting: being offered vouchers for more tours. As if the answer to a ruined milestone experience was to put us through more of the same, plus the fact we reside in a completely different country, did they actually expect us to spend thousands more just to redeem this?? There was no sense of accountability, no meaningful gesture to recognize the gravity of the occasion or the scale of our disappointment. The resort itself also did little to redeem the stay. The pool in our villa looked tired and worn, far from the pristine oasis promised in glossy marketing photos. For the level of money spent here, the atmosphere felt more like style over substance - and when you scratched beneath the surface, the service and quality simply did not match the price point. We have stayed at many properties around the world, but this was one of the most disheartening and disingenuous experiences we’ve ever had. Banyan Tree markets itself as a place of elegance and world-class hospitality - in reality, it failed at every level that mattered. We will never stay at another Banyan Tree property again. And if you value being treated with respect, honesty, and dignity after investing so much in what should be a once-in-a-lifetime trip, you should avoid them too.

I stayed for four nights at Banyan Tree Mayaboka in one of the 3 bedroom villas (which was more room than we needed but was the room that was available). Overall we had a lovely experience. Juan, who was assigned as our concierge, was very attentive and ensured we had dinner reservations and transportation as needed. Despite reviews I had seen online I found the Sands Beach Club to be wonderful with a great pool and accompanying restaurant. Food and drink are pricey but in line with other resorts in the area. Would definitely go again for a couples trip or girls trip

The property is large and has something for everyone.Juan Oropeza was so helpful and available the entire time. He even helped us with a minor medical emergency.

From the moment we arrived at Banyan Tree Mayakoba, it was clear that this resort is a masterpiece of luxury and natural beauty. The grounds are absolutely stunning, meticulously maintained with lush greenery, serene canals, and breathtaking views everywhere you turn. While there is ongoing construction due to some renovations, it was hardly a disruption. In fact, it shows the resort's dedication to maintaining its beauty and enhancing an already incredible location. It’s a small price to pay for an even more spectacular experience in the future. We stayed in one of the gorgeous villas, and wow—just wow. The room was immaculate, with every detail thoughtfully designed. Our private plunge pool was the perfect touch, and the beach view from our villa was absolutely breathtaking. Waking up to the sound of the waves and the sight of the beach just outside our door was pure bliss. The housekeeping staff went above and beyond, ensuring everything was perfect and making us feel completely at home. When it comes to dining, each experience was better than the last. Cello, the Italian restaurant, was a delightful surprise. The food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed. Saffron, the Thai restaurant, was another must-visit. The flavors were vibrant, and the dishes were both beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. But what really took us by surprise was the pool bar at the Fairmont, where we stopped for lunch. It became one of our favorite spots, with amazing views and some of the most refreshing cocktails we’ve ever had. Now, onto the highlights of our trip—where do I even begin? The spa experience was simply unforgettable. Maya and Olga were incredible. They took care of us so well, making sure we were relaxed and pampered every step of the way. The sunset cruise was another memorable experience. Jesus, our guide, made the trip extra special. He shared so many fascinating stories about the area, and his warmth and hospitality made us feel like family. The sunset views were absolutely magical, setting the perfect tone for our anniversary night. Speaking of our anniversary, we owe so much of its success to our amazing concierge, Juan Oropeza. Juan went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect, from organizing excursions to arranging special touches for our celebration. It was a 20th wedding anniversary to remember, and we are forever grateful for his efforts. Banyan Tree Mayakoba offered us an experience we’ll never forget—from the adventure-filled activities like snorkeling, paddleboarding, jet skiing, and golf, to the luxurious massages that had us feeling completely rejuvenated. Every aspect of our trip was seamless and remarkable. The service was exceptional, and the warmth of the staff made us feel appreciated every single day. There is always someone there to greet you with a smile and a kind word, and that genuine hospitality really sets Banyan Tree apart. The resort's commitment to preserving local culture and making every guest feel at home is what truly elevates this experience. To say this trip exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. If I could give this resort 10 stars, I would. From the beauty of the location to the impeccable service and the stunning villa, we can't wait to return.
