We took this trip to celebrate my 30th birthday and a belated 10th anniversary. While we take the approach of not repeating destinations in an attempt to see as much of the world as we can, after our third day at Banyan Tree, we both decided- we *have* to come back here. We stayed in a Bliss Pool Villa (no outdoor spa attached to the pool, but does have an outdoor tub), and it was perfect. So romantic- we felt like we were the only ones at the resort. The service was phenomenal, housekeeping was fantastic (coming back for the evening to a dimly-lit room with incense burning and robes out always a treat in the evening), and the food was great. If you're like me and want to know about one of the most important aspects of any trip- the FOOD- then here's some info: There are three dinner restaurants on site (not including the bar upstairs that also serves food and Haab). To give you an idea about what meals will cost on-site for two (not including drinks, since we don't drink), At Cello (Italian), we spent $140 (get the barrata salad). At Tomahawk (steakhouse- get the tomahawk steak), we spent $188. At Saffron (get the coconut soup app), we spent $150. Since we would eat a late breakfast (goes until 11), and we'd fill up there, we would just have chips, salsa, and guac delivered to our room mid-day when we were ready for a snack ($30, if I remember right), and then have dinner around 6. The fish tacos at Sands were also worth getting ($7 each and you could easily finish 3 if you were hungry). We spent about $200/day on food for the two of us. So if you're looking to take an amazing trip to a place like Banyan Tree and you're thinking you'll be able to do food for cheap, know that you can't. We went into town one night for dinner at El Fogon (recommended by the staff at Banyan) and had some awesome carne asada tacos and a couple virgin drinks for $15. A taxi into town was about $14 each way (250 pesos), so, in theory, you could ride into town and have a good, authentic meal for $45 (including your cab ride), but one trip into town was plenty for us. We also did a day at the spa. We did a Balinese couples massage with the Rainforest Experience beforehand. Don't miss the Rainforest experience! The week we were there, they included the Rainforest with the purchase of a massage, but we had planned on doing it anyway. VERY cool, and very romantic. You likely won't find much about it online (I looked for info beforehand and couldn't find much) since you can't bring your phone in (it would get wet). But just do it- you won't regret it. We did the Experience rather than the indulgence, and from what I understand, the difference is that someone else applies the scrubs for you in the indulgence, whereas in the experience, you do it yourself, which we were fine with. As far as the massages go, they were fantastic. We like firm pressure, and they were able to deliver. Everything was beautiful and peaceful. As far as things to do, we took a couple bike rides. One just to check out the nature trail and one to the beach. On the nature trail, there is a cool cenote. We had thought about taking an excursion to see one, but this one was cool enough to satisfy us. There is also a free nature boat tour that is worth doing, if nothing else, to check out the amazing architecture of the residences that are being built on nearby resorts. We also saw lots of birds, turtles, fish, and a crocodile even made a brief appearance. While the beach was clean and quiet, and service was amazing, we had our fill after one trip. The rest of our time was spent outside in our pool and lounging on the day-beds and hammock. *sigh- relaxation* GAHHHH I could go on. After reading amazing reviews and having friends recommend this place to us, we had high expectations, and honestly, we were a little worried that they wouldn't be met- but they were, and then some. Go, and you'll see for yourselves.

We stayed in June for our anniversary. We fell in love with this resort. We have stayed in many nice resorts but this one is our new favorite. The resort is gorgeous- we loved riding the bikes around. The rooms are fantastic- we loved the pool, hammock, and giant outdoor bathtub. The food is fantastic- the breakfast buffet is so good. We also loved Cello and Saffron. We spent every afternoon lounging at the beach and pool. The Spa is amazing- we did the Rainforest which was really unique and then got massages. Everyone who works at the resort is so nice and friendly. They treat their guests like royalty and there are so many thoughtful touches... little gifts on your pillow at night, special drinks for our anniversary, etc. When we went into town for dinner, the hotel even sent us a special dessert at the restaurant we dined in. It was a magical 4 days and we cannot wait to go back.

It's rare that you find hotel that gets everything right and Banyan Tree Mayakoba is one of them. Our flight arrived at 6:00 a.m and we were at the hotel by 7:30. We checked in, were escorted to breakfast and by the time we finished breakfast, our beautiful Serenity Pool Villa was ready. We have been fortunate enough to stay in some beautiful rooms in beautiful hotels, but this one takes the cake. It's spacious, comfortable and, well, beautiful. The private pool is amazing...I think we spent more time there than anywhere else. Within two hours of being at Banyan Tree Mayakoba, we agreed this would be an annual trip for us. We ate at saffron and cello and both were delicious. We also did the HAAB dinner, which is a must. Be sure to book in advance, so that you can get in. It is truly amazing. As many others mentioned, the brunch is great! The staff are all friendly and professional. One day, we were looking at one of the beautiful wooden doors on the property and the assistant GM stopped what he was doing to tell us about it and ended up chatting with us for 15 minutes. We usually book ourselves with outings and activities when we travel. Here, we ended up canceling all of our plans and never left the hotel. We got home actually feeling refreshed from just relaxing, soaking up the sun and each other. I could go on and on about this place. Banyan Tree Mayakoba is an absolute gem!

We are enjoying the stunning architecture and surroundings of this resort. Biking around the entire Mayakoba property is a great way to see all the resorts and make you appreciate the unique design of Banyan Tree. With that said, and yes I am picky, but I don't believe the service is 100 percent. When you're paying these prices I feel that comment is warranted. I waited too long on the beach for an attendant so I had to go find one to order a drink. Then we moved to pool and were ignored so I had to ask again. I find this shocking because drink and food prices are very expensive and I would think the staff would want to make more tips. Several times our suite concierge has said he would do something and it hasn't happened. I've asked for firmer pillows and they still haven't showed up. It's the little things. We don't want to keep asking. On the flip side, the housekeeping staff and Oriente morning staff are incredibly friendly. Yes, the golf cart drivers appreciate a tip and we are happy to do so. I want to absolutely love this resort, but I'm hesitant to say that.

Our nephew chose the resort for his wedding after a previous vacation there. Despite some weather challenges, the resort staff was able to provide excellent options and the occasion was very memorable. All wedding attendees agreed that any future vacation elsewhere will find it hard to compete due to the quality of staff and the facilities themselves.
