Really a great place to enjoy, the service and quality of the hotel are excellent. The maintenance, location, food, spa and specially the Villa are just great, all the staff are AAA; food at all the restaurants is fenomenal. Since the moment you get inside the hotel until the moment you leave every one is taking PERFECT care of you.

This hotel definitely gets it right. The staff is very friendly and well trained, facilities are beautiful and well kept, food is good, the beach is beautiful. I cannot think of a nicer place where to spend a relaxing week with my family.

This was my second trip to Banyan Tree and it didn't disappoint. They do service better that anyplace I've ever visited. When storms hit, our rooms were appointed with ponchos. Beach staff called and brought over board games to keep us entertained until the storms left. Buggy service included plastic shield to ensure we stayed dry. Once the sun came back the beaches were vibrant. Every restaurant was wonderful but you must try a Tomahawk steak from the wood fired grill. The Rainforest and Spa is worth a self treat. This trip included my teen daughters and the grandma's- both in their 80's. Lastly - shout out to the Beach Villas, amazing for larger groups. There is something for everyone at Banyan Tree.

We stayed recently at Banyan Tree on a group reward trip so we were not paying the bill (just wanted to put that out there). The hotel was amazing and couldn't be faulted .. the staff, the food, the beach (which you had to ride or take buggy too) beautiful, the spa / massages awesome, the villas big and beautiful with your own pool and relaxing area. There was a great nature trail to run on (I like to run), a world class Greg Norman designed golf course for those that like golf, daily Mexican dancing band activities and all round great services! So if you want something luxurious that is away from the chaos of Playa del Carmen proper and are not worried about the price, then this is definitely recommended.

We stayed at this great resort July 23-29. There is nothing negative to say about this resort....the only down fall for us is we stayed at the Rosewood Mayakoba last year and that resort is just impossible to live up to.... Our family (myself, husband and two teenagers) stayed in a 3 bedroom was very nice and always serviced perfectly. This resort is more spread out than Rosewood so getting around was a little more difficult. We were assigned bikes and used these daily to get from our villa to the beach, but was quite the ride....about 10 was great exercise but in the month of July where the humidity was were sweating by the time you peddle about 3 villas down on your journey. If not riding our bikes for transportation there were golf carts that you could call for and they would arrive within 5 minutes, never a problem getting this service. Normally just used the golf carts during the evening while headed to and from dinner. We ate at Sands restaurant either at the pool in our loungers or in the restaurant daily and the food was great. The pool staff was amazing...every day they greeted us by name and had everything set-up for us....the two that went above and beyond were Carlos and Julio....but all of the pool/beach staff were terrific. We also ate at the breakfast buffet one morning, but for the price and because we are don't eat a lot in one setting we felt for the price, it really was not worth the expense. We enjoyed dinner one evening at Saffron, which is a wonderful dinning experience. A few other evenings we ventured over to the Fairmont at Mayakoba and enjoyed La Laguna, their Mexican restaurant, which was terrific and the second time was to El Puerto, Mexican/Asian fusion and it was good, not great. The lobby bar at the Fairmont is a wonderful place to enjoy a pre-dinner or after dinner cocktail. Our other 2 evenings we ventured into Playa to 5th Avenue and enjoyed two of our favorite restaurants that we feel are musts while in the area, Cenacolo, wonderful Italian...and last but not least Harry's Prime Steakhouse and Raw Bar.....seriously the best steak we have ever eaten and we live in Kansas City. The last suggestion I would make to this resort would be to some how expand the pool that over looks the beach area....there were so many families with small children trying to enjoy this area and it is just way to small. To sum up our stay....the Banyan Tree is a beautiful, well kept resort. Besides the pool/beach area service which was over the top...for the price you pay we felt the service to be average not outstanding, as you would expect at a resort of this caliber. If we return to this area of Mexico we would chose Rosewood over Banyan Tree hands down. Again nothing negative to say...but was just not blown away either. One final comment...if seaweed is a concern, which is a natural occurrence that has nothing to do with the resort but know many tend to ask about, it was quite abundant while we were there...the resort did as best as they could to keep up with this daily. Happy Travels!!
