Reviews for Banyan Tree Mayakoba

Excellent, but not without faults. F&B Outrageously Expensive.

Banyan tree always lovely, with beautiful rooms and high levels of service. Breakfast excellent. Location also wonderful with lagoons and mangroves. Their recognition of their place in the environment also impressive. But with all this, comes the bad. It's getting up there in age, and while this means that the buildings are simpatico with the greenery which is lovely and mature, the rooms show their age. Spotty wifi. Some plumbing issues. Mosquitoes a real thing here. You "will" be bitten. Whatever they do here in terms of infrastructure to reduce mosquitoes, its not enough. Saffron, with a chef from Thailand was fantastic. Cello, with a chef from Chef Boyardee, terrible. Sands the most beautiful of the three, but a real lost opportunity in the evening with a lackadaisical menu. Finally, food and beverage costs. Its unbelievable. $20 beers. $25 french fries. Most restaurant entrees $70. No problem you say, Mayakoba beautiful and true resort retreat. Fine, I say. But after Banyan Tree we headed over to the new Edition/St. Regis, and their identical beers are $10, and the entrees in their truly excellent Italian restaurant significantly less. Simple porcelain incense burner from the shop because you have graduated from stealing stuff from rooms: $85. It's Mexico, not Bora Bora.

First time at Banyan Tree

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Expedia didn’t submit my complete post so I’m making it a point to leave a review here. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa and it was an absolute dream. Very relaxing and very private villa. 3 completely seperate areas to live in , all surrounded but a beautiful pool. Plenty of space to just relax. The deck above the pool, and the pool itself were our families favorite place. We also enjoyed the pool at sands beach, but mostly, we would stay in and order room service. We went as a family of 4 with 2 children. We used the bikes (kids bikes available with training wheels) and we did the eco tour to explore the grounds. All guests here have a personal “concierge” available at all times that arrange this by simply texting (Thank you Roi and Angel!). We had breakfast included in our booking which I totally recommend. I believe it’s from 7 to 11 am. I’m really on here because I need to express my gratitude. The staff is so accommodating and I can’t say enough about how hard they work to make your stay unforgettable. I have to give a special thank you to the staff, the property can be replicated but the workers here are one of a kind. Fernando, Gina, Alexis, and Chef Juan Carlos for our fantastic breakfast and service. Thank you for your anniversary treat and departure treat. Our server at Copa, Freddy, was very pleasant, gave us excellent drink recommendations. Most nights we saw Arely as she provided turndown service. She was incredibly kind and she would arrange our children’s plushies on their beds. Our kids loved those tiny details and it really meant a lot to us. Thank you Arely. Also, Edwin and Gama at sands beach, big thank you for your hard work and being so attentive to us. We really appreciate everyone’s hard work.

Saffron Thai 🌿✨

Absolutely loved our experience at Saffron! The atmosphere is so unique and beautiful, and the food was simply incredible. Every single dish Ángel recommended was easily a 10/10—everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. 🤍 We also paired our dinner with a delicious wine that complemented the food so well. 🍷✨ A huge thank you to Ángel for the amazing recommendations and such warm, attentive service. Everything from the food to the ambiance and the overall experience was just chef’s kiss. 💫 Definitely a place I’d happily come back to—and recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable Thai dining experience! 🌶️🥢✨

Gamaliel at the Baynan Mayakoba on the beach is the absolutely best service I have ever received. He his so thoughtful in making sure you comfortable, taken care of not matter what circumstances. From recommending the best drinks and food to getting you the best shade etc. I will only come back to this resort because of Gamaliel!!!
