Beautiful location , very zen atmosphere . Ideal for a really restful break. Some parts of the hotel do require a facelift. We were lucky to be upgraded to a beach front villa - just wow . The villa was. Beautifully equipped, was kept spotless by amazing staff and offered an amazing sunrise and sunset experience as your bedroom is directly facing the beach and the view. Our concierge Abi was exceptional. She couldn't do enough and made our holiday a seamless experience. Our favourite restaurant was saffron for the food - and cello for the food and exceptional service. Tomahawk pop up very average and overpriced. Breakfast was ok not the best we've ever had. There was Fabulous juices, smoothies and a large selection of cold and hot food. We personally didn't like the rather large Mexican spread at breakfast each day but that's our personal choice. Overall this hotel offers a wonderful tranquil break . If you like zen like experience I wouldn't hesitate

I would advise anyone considering the Banyan Tree to AVOID, and stay at any of the other great hotels in the area. We have stayed at the St. Regis, the Rosewood, the Edition, and the Fairmont, and I would recommend all of them before the Banyan Tree, so you can actually enjoy a 5-star experience. They overbooked the hotel, and forced us to stay at a 3-star equivalent hotel for the same price. The new hotel was down a DIRT ROAD. Booking a supposed 5-star resort, you would expect to stay in one. The hotel tried to make this right, but failed at every step of the process. In the end, all they offered was a couple hundred dollars off dinner, and an ability to book the same rate at the same time next year (which we certainly won’t be taking them up on). When you plan a trip, take the time off work, and book flights - you expect to receive the experience you paid for. That certainly didn’t happen for us. Please save your money. There are so many good hotels in the area (see my list above). DO NOT STAY AT THE BANYAN TREE!

Service was top notch from the moment we arrived. The foot had been fantastic and staff are genuinely friendly and happy to make your holiday fabulous. The often say it is their pleasure and the truly mean it. I sprained my foot/ankle & the staff improved my holiday by arranging a doctor and x-rays through Abi & Igor’s expert coordination - thank you! Dr. Arturo was also very helpful and thoughtful.

We stayed here as a group of friends in a three bedroom villa with four adults and four little children. We had an absolutely wonderful time!!!!! The service here was top-notch. The grounds and the entire property were gorgeous!!! The beach and the pools were beautifully kept and so fun to hang out at everyday. All of the food was delicious. It was so family friendly and the kids had a blast. It’s the perfect oasis away from home. We would easily come back here in the future anytime. The staff truly went above and beyond in every way to accommodate us at concierge, breakfast, the beach club, the golf cart drivers, the boat driver, etc. It is hard to mention every single person because everyone was truly so great!! But some of the people we personally worked with this week multiple times that were excellent include: Seidee Edwin Juan luiz ignacio osiel Marisol Pablo Marco francisco victor ulisses

We had another lovely stay at Banyan Tree. My husband and I truly love this resort because of the privacy, general chill vibes, and wonderful staff. One of the highlights of the trip was our day at the main pool, where we had the place to ourselves plus had some great cocktails and a guided mezcal tasting with Raul and Pablo. My husband also joined the morning bike tour (he ended up being the only guest) with Jorge who took him to see the cenote and the butterfly garden. Also shout out to Oscar and the full staff at Oriente who run a wonderful breakfast and got us our daily oat milk latte. The hotel is undergoing a renovation which seems to be running behind. Only 80 of the 160 rooms were available when we arrived. We were upgraded from a Bliss Pool Suite to a Lagoon & Sunset Rooftop Pool Villa. While this is technically a large upgrade (rooms are double the price), they’re also very different rooms and we missed having a large heated pool. They seemed to have blocked off all of November for new bookings, so I imagine guests will be impacted for the next several weeks. That being said they do a good job of keeping the construction relatively discreet and the hotel was operating as normal. Also wanted to note that while immigration at the Cancun airport took over an hour at this time last year, it took only a couple of minutes this trip. Banyan Tree Mayakoba is a special place and we look forward to coming back again next year!
