Banyan Tree Mayakoba

My husband and I just celebrated our 10 year anniversary at Banyan Tree, an exquisite resort we would absolutely come to again. We stayed in a serenity suite in the 500s which was perfect as it was private yet close to the lobby where all of the food and pick ups are. We could easily walk there, although bikes are also provided if you're further away. I am also GF and DF and ate everywhere without issue and plenty of options. Everything we ate was delicious - room service from the lunch menu, Sands beach club for lunch, Saffron, Tomahawk, and Cello for dinner. La Copa is also great for meals or for bites. The breakfast buffet at Oriente was delicious. For a 4 night stay, we saw no reason to leave and eat anywhere else although you can certainly do so at the resorts nearby. The signature drinks at each spot are also quite good. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. If you need anything, just ask. The beach is a bit far if you're not staying directly on it, but you can also easily request a golf cart to and from. It is also a very enjoyable bike ride away. I highly recommend riding the bikes on the nature trail that winds around the resorts. I was also glad we had a heated pool in our villa because the weather was on the cooler side and the ocean/main pool were too chilly for us. Something to consider depending on the time you plan on going. We saw many small children and families; while we didn't bring our child on this trip it would have been an easy place to vacation together. We did not see many of the things Banyan offers - there are so many things on site (butterfly garden, small cenote, boat and dinner experiences) that we simply did not have time to do them all. It's hard to squeeze that much adventuring in when your room itself is so lovely that you never want to leave it. If you are looking for a romantic room with a private pool, convenient to a major airport where you can relax and be pampered and budget is less of a concern - look no further. This place was the perfect vacation and I hope we get a chance to return! Thank you to the wonderful staff who maintain the grounds, cook delicious meals, keep the facilities spotless, and cater to the guests' every request.

I recently stayed at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, expecting a premium luxury experience based on the brand's reputation and price point. Unfortunately, the reality was a massive disappointment across the board. Dirty Rooms and Maintenance Failures: The room was simply not clean, and to make matters worse, we found cockroaches in our villa. Furthermore, the electronic lock on our door completely died. We were locked out and had to wait an agonizing hour for maintenance just to get back into our own room. Unfriendly and Unreliable Service: For a resort of this massive size, you have to rely on golf carts to get around. However, the carts we requested never arrived, leaving us stranded. When we interacted with the staff, the service was consistently poor and unfriendly—a stark contrast to the hospitality you expect in Mexico, let alone at a five-star hotel. Airport Transfer Fiasco: The breaking point was the hotel’s car service. Our flight was delayed, a common travel occurrence that any luxury hotel concierge should monitor and easily accommodate. Instead of adjusting our pickup time, they refused to automatically update it and actually charged me twice just for moving the time. Subpar Dining: To top it all off, the food was simply bad. When you are a captive audience at a sprawling resort paying luxury prices, the dining needs to deliver, and this fell completely short. The Verdict: Save your money and stay elsewhere. The property might look nice in photos, but the terrible service, maintenance issues, unaccommodating staff, and poor food made this a highly regrettable stay.
