It’s difficult to write this review after coming back from the four seasons in Vietnam which was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed. The banyon tree mayakoba is a lovely resort and the villas not to be faulted, they are just wonderful. Also, the service is fantastic but spotty in some cases but every effort was made to make us happy. I agree with most of the wonderful reviews with these exceptions 1. In my opinion, the resort pools were my biggest disappointment. The design and color were uninviting and boring. Especially the pool,at the beach. For a hotel of this caliber I would expect much larger pools and pools for children only. The resort was full while we were there and the beach pool was a zoo. This was a huge disappointment as the four seasons in hoi an has three huge, modern gorgeous pools and one for children that was enormous. The only thing I could figure this was due to is the fact that the villas have pools. But still, I expected much more. 2. The drinks as mentioned before are very overpriced and under alcoholed (sp). After reading previous reviews I always asked for strong drinks. The waiters always fulfilled my requests with a smile. 3. We had good weather however the beach was windy and the water was not calm and sea weed was a constant. The hotel was cleaning daily with two tractor like machines going up and down the beach which was noisy and smelly for quite a long time. I appreciate that they were trying to keep it clean but was a big disruption of the peace. All in all a very beautiful resort yet something about it felt “ corporate” I don’t know how else to describe it. Maybe because there are four other hotels that are part of the area. I liked the bar which also had a tapas menu., the Thai restaurant was delicious but my favourite meal was at the punta Bonita at the rosewood, do try it, the churros are to die for, the whole meal was memorable. I am trying the spa tomorrow so can’t comment. I would return in a nano second if only the pools were not so mediocre. That was very sad for me.

While there are definite highlights to this property, when we take into account the issues combined with the price point, it really falls short. Highlights: The room sizes are very large. The bedroom/bathroom area is plenty big for 2 people. We stayed in a Serenity Pool room. Loved the separated living/dining area. It was a great oasis. The beach is fantastic. We found the best service was at the beach. Both the waitstaff and activities staff was friendly and helpful. The loungers are comfortable and the constant water replenishment is welcome on the hot days. The breakfast buffet at Oriente is expansive and delicious. Definitely get a package that has it included. The Sands restaurant served high-quality food for lunch and was reasonably priced for the quality. Lowlights: The bikes are in terrible condition. The alignment was off, tires were in need of air and our bikes had mold covering the seat. Thankfully they replaced one of them on day 3 after filing several complaints. Love the concept and they are needed due to the expansive property but they really need to keep them in better condition. We booked this property due to the private pools. Unfortunately, they are dirty and in need of maintenance. We understand that there is going to be debris in the water due to the surroundings and had no issue with that. The issue is that the paint is coming off, there are tiles missing and the hot tub did not work. We complained for several days and even after maintenance came and claimed it was "fixed" it was no different. One morning we were sitting at the window during breakfast and noticed the same falling tiles and chips along the main pool area of the hotel. The same poor condition is found in the outdoor bathtub. While it's a fantastic amenity to include, we were disappointed to find the condition of chipped corners, dirt throughout and in a desperate need of a new paint job. We ate at both Saffron and Cello and while the setting was very romantic, it fell short in food quality and value for the money. We frequently dine at higher-end establishments so have no problem paying high prices when the food quality matches the price point. Both of these restaurants fell short. Both fish and meat dishes were highly overcooked and poor quality. Overall the property just appeared tired. We did not get the impression that they are investing in up-keep of the property which is disappointing when the price point requires it. Overall we loved Mayakoba and will return. We just will choose a different resort that delivers the 5* experience that you pay for.

My wife and I visited Banyan Tree for a six day getaway. We were celebrating birthdays and a milestone anniversary. We weren’t sure what to expect when we booked the trip since we have never stayed in a resort quite like this but we wanted nothing short of excellence. And that’s exactly what we got. The experience begins when you arrive at the massive indoor / outdoor lobby space. You are greeted and introduced to the property while you go through a simple check in process. Then depending on where you were Villa is located you or brought over and introduced to your space. Most of the villas are walking distance from the lobby or you can use bikes to get around or just call and the lobby will golf cart to pick you up and bring you wherever you would like to go. The serenity pool villa is simply amazing. Clean, neat, and spacious is exactly what we were looking for and that’s what we got. The bedroom and bathroom are connected while the living room is on the other side of your villa. You are a pool and hot tub separate the two areas and there is also a beautiful grassy area and seating area next to the pool. While the villa is not totally enclosed you are completely secluded from all other guests on the property and have total privacy In your space. There are 4 great restaurants on the property. The most interesting thing is that there are other hotels in the Mayakoba development and you can make a reservation at any one of those restaurants and the hotels will provide transfers. The restaurants provide phenomenal options to vegetarians and pescatarians. They even go so far as to prepare food away from meat so there is no risk of mixing vegetarian dishes w regular meals. The level of service is second to none. Where ever you go on the property the staff knows who you are and what your preferences are too. They really go the extra mile to ensure that every single part of your visit is exactly what you want it to be. The beach is a few minute buggy ride from the main lobby. When you arrive there you are constantly catered to. One of our favorite meals was our late lunch by the beach. Overall this hotel and resort is simply the best place to go if you want privacy and just need to get away from the world. They will make sure that every expectation is met and surpassed.

Relaxing and loved the resort . My husband and I can’t wait to return next year. We also loved being able to eat at the other hotels on the property . The best spa that I have ever been to at a resort .

This is probably one of the best (if not the best) place to stay around Riviera Maya. First rate restaurants on the property, and wonderful spa with specialists from Singapore and Thailand. Buffet breakfast with champagne is exceptional, and service — impeccable. All private villas with the real size (not plugging!) swimming pools are very discreet. The beach area had been greatly improved in the recent years, it is a great place to go for a long swim.
