For those who want to experience the luxury of their favorite resort in Southeast Asia without flying across the Pacific -- Banyan Tree Mayakoba can't be beaten. The hotel is located in the sub-tropical "Mexican Riviera" which will bring memories of Bali and Thailand. The sea, though not Andaman, is warm, clean, blue, and pleasant. Rooms at the hotel are fantastic -- all come with a private pool which is kept warm and clean and high walls for extra privacy. The staff is fantastic. My wife and I have stayed there eight times now... and we are welcomed back, by name, by the hotel staff -- waiters, buggy drivers, beach valets, not to mention the management. The experience is very personal. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to escape a dreary East Coast winter -- three hours on the plan and you're in paradise.

We stayed in one of the pool villas at Banyan Tree as part of our anniversary vacation, and we enjoyed every moment. The pool villas have large, private pools that are perfect for relaxing in the sun. The food at all of the resort restaurants is excellent, including the delicious buffet breakfast which showcases local specialties. Try the delicious green juice!

We had a perfect trip at Banyan Tree! From the romance, to the private pool and luxurious accommodations. The food was fantastic! We enjoyed riding bikes around the property, eating in our room, romantic candles all over our room as a surprise, and a private pool in our villa. Looking to go again to recharge. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From the moment we entered the majestic property of the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, our minds & souls were transported to another realm. A realm centered around the human senses, serenity, beauty, nature & a slower pace of existence. There is simply no place on earth like the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. My wife & I spent 2 nights there, but it felt more like 5. We were first greeted by super efficient & friendly concierge personnel who whisked our bags & car away establishing a tone for the weekend: we are here to pamper you. In fact, Yuri, a warm & beautiful person who radiates joy & gratitude spoke this very phrase to us. She could not have been more right. Yuri made our check-in process a complete breeze offering us the Banyan Tree’s signature green juice beverage as well as a cold towel that had been infused with exotic oils. We felt rejuvenated & refreshed instantly. Yuri gave us a quick backstory on the Banyan Tree, a short lobby area tour (lots to see) & explained how our stay would go. Then she & a driver personally escorted us to our villa. She gave us a tour of the villa & upon entering informed us that we had been complimentary upgraded! Once our jaws were reeled back in from the floor, Yuri gave us the grand tour of our villa. It was breathtaking: private infinity pool, outdoor hot tub, actual grass & sun chairs/lounging area, a separate living room structure with a huge couch, free water & coffee amenities, espresso machine, dining table, TV, & in the main room: a king-sized bed, huge bathroom with 2 gorgeous sinks, a walk-in shower, huge closet & a romantic outdoor bath area with a stone wall filled with candles. We were in heaven! We have NEVER experienced the caliber of customer service we received while staying at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba; it was UNPARALLELED. Our first night after taking our complimentary bicycles around the property to explore, my wife was recovering from a stomach bug due to a bad taco in Tulum & she had to leave dinner just before ordering. The waiter was so nice & accommodating & pushed our orders through as room service. He also was so patient with my wife’s order as she was requesting completely plain chicken & brown rice for her upset stomach. I apologized to the super nice maitre d’ and she offered to send some gatorade to the room, super sweet! The food showed up at our villa shortly thereafter & a young gentleman set us up perfectly in the dining room. With our food came the Gatorade, tons of crackers & a personal message printed out addressed to my wife with wishes that she feel better soon, unreal! These tiny details & the attentive & caring employees that work at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba really enhanced our experience & provided the utmost of comfort. The next day we had the most amazing breakfast buffet & then set out to visit the Pueblito, a nearby village of shops on property. A very kind & informative gentleman named Paco gave us a ride there making a pit stop at the property’s cenote. He entered the cave with us & proceeded to give us a wonderful tour & some history of the cave. He let my wife practice her Spanish & we had a wonderful time with him. He took pictures of us inside the cenote & then waited for us at the Pueblito while we shopped. His kindness & knowledge were greatly appreciated! People like Paco can be found ALL over the property: smiling, friendly, helpful & attentive. It is truly an amazing place. Later that day, after returning to our villa to find yet another get well message for my wife accompanied by beautiful flowers, we had an incredible couples’ massage that transcended the physical world & left us in a pure state of bliss & relaxation! My masseuse’s name was Sumi & she was amazing: perfect pressure, respectable, friendly & communicative. We enjoyed a relaxing foot massage prior to the actual massage & scented towels. After the massage, we had another 15 mins. of relaxation time to enjoy some snacks— homemade & natural ginger tea with honey & some fruit with yogurt. Our masseuses personally escorted us all the way back to the front desk. The massages take place in one of the many massage villas that overlook the lagoon on the property. Pure magic! We ate at their signature steakhouse Oriente that night & enjoyed a meal out of this world. Once again, we were taken care of by a super friendly & accommodating waiter. Everything was perfect. The next morning, we were given a late checkout (3 PM) & were able to make a final beach trip which is a short & fun bike ride away. At the beach pool, we made friends with a super nice bartender named Irving who made us the most delicious mojito & margarita. We again practiced our Spanish & learned a little about each other. We spoke with Irving for only a short time, but he surely made a strong impression on us— one of kindness, joy & generosity. After that, we took the complimentary 45 minute eco tour, so worth it! We saw many species of birds, turtles & some crocodiles! It was relaxing & so fun. A perfect way to end our trip of a lifetime! Concierge showed up at our villa promptly at 3 PM to retrieve our bags & give us a ride to the front desk. Checkout was a breeze & we were even given a farewell thank you token: a small turtle trinket with the sentiment that, like the turtles who return to their birthplace to spawn, we will someday return as well. We can say without a doubt that we WILL be returning again & again! Do yourself a favor & treat yourself to a majestic getaway at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba!

It’s difficult to write this review after coming back from the four seasons in Vietnam which was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed. The banyon tree mayakoba is a lovely resort and the villas not to be faulted, they are just wonderful. Also, the service is fantastic but spotty in some cases but every effort was made to make us happy. I agree with most of the wonderful reviews with these exceptions 1. In my opinion, the resort pools were my biggest disappointment. The design and color were uninviting and boring. Especially the pool,at the beach. For a hotel of this caliber I would expect much larger pools and pools for children only. The resort was full while we were there and the beach pool was a zoo. This was a huge disappointment as the four seasons in hoi an has three huge, modern gorgeous pools and one for children that was enormous. The only thing I could figure this was due to is the fact that the villas have pools. But still, I expected much more. 2. The drinks as mentioned before are very overpriced and under alcoholed (sp). After reading previous reviews I always asked for strong drinks. The waiters always fulfilled my requests with a smile. 3. We had good weather however the beach was windy and the water was not calm and sea weed was a constant. The hotel was cleaning daily with two tractor like machines going up and down the beach which was noisy and smelly for quite a long time. I appreciate that they were trying to keep it clean but was a big disruption of the peace. All in all a very beautiful resort yet something about it felt “ corporate” I don’t know how else to describe it. Maybe because there are four other hotels that are part of the area. I liked the bar which also had a tapas menu., the Thai restaurant was delicious but my favourite meal was at the punta Bonita at the rosewood, do try it, the churros are to die for, the whole meal was memorable. I am trying the spa tomorrow so can’t comment. I would return in a nano second if only the pools were not so mediocre. That was very sad for me.
