We come to this resort every year!!! The service, food, location, and resort are top notch!!! We've stayed at many resorts but always come back here. There are many restaurants and choices to choose from. Definitely recommend! You won't be disappointed

We took a long time to research and decide where to stay in Playa and I'm so happy La Perla was where we ended up! We stayed in the Royal Service area and it was certainly worth it. Our butler, Christian, was attentive and helped us with everything we needed. We were offered things like different kinds of pillows -gel, memory foam or aromatherapy for our pillows. I believe we were allowed to use the hot and cold pools in the spa but we didn't ever end up there. Another advantage of Royal Service is that you don't have to checkout until 1:00 (regular checkout is 11:00 I believe). We were allowed to stay on the resort property until we were picked up at 3:30. The pool is wonderful! It's not crowded like the main pool and is really relaxing. If it's action you want you may want to consider the main pool. They had upbeat music whereas the RS pool was all really spa like music. Pool service is fantastic. You were never left wanting for a drink! Special thanks to Rene at the pool who went out of his way many times to help us out. One day we showed up quite late and there weren't any chairs available. He went to the main pool and brought 2 over for us. It was always service with a smile wherever you went on the property of La Perla. They have a nice little coffee/espresso place over on the Esmerelda side if you're after something other than just a regular cup of coffee. Josephina and Karina were delightful and worked so hard to please the customers. If you have a chance, go to M bar (the martini bar). They have a great selection of martinis and they are soooo good!! The food was truly fantastic. Anything you order off a menu will not disappoint. The buffets had great selection but the food wasn't as good as going into the sit down restaurants. However all the buffets had food that was kept fresh and replenished frequently. I loved Vento the best and Bana Tapanaki had an entertaining show (chef prepares the food in front of you) and La Palapa was nice for breakfast as it's right beside the pool. We were prepared for the beach because of other reviews and they are all correct. It was often quite rough and not conducive to swimming. The oceanfront is small but the sand was soft and pleasant to walk in. My husband used the gym a couple of times and he said it was well equipped. They have a couple of running routes you can take around the resort which we did every day first thing in the morning. I had a small incident where I tripped on something while running and really scraped myself up. An employee saw it happen and sent a first aid attendant to my room immediately. He bandaged me up and checked for any broken bones. It was great that they were so responsive. We visited 5th Ave one afternoon. It's a $10 cab ride approximately. You will be approached by someone with every step you take but a simple "no thanks" and keep walking will solve that. The vendors know which band you are wearing around your wrist and will refer to your hotel. We heard, "hey I was your waiter at La Palapa last night" a number of times. So don't fall for that! So all in all we had such a marvellous time and felt so pampered by the staff. It was relaxing, beautiful and we were so happy to be there. I can only hope we can return sometime soon!

This is an "all inclusive" resort and for the most part, very nice and clean. The bars consistently ran out of Jack Daniels so even though I probably only drank 3-4 cocktails a day they were seldom what I wanted. The food was simply average and the better "restaurants" a challenge to get into. The food through room service was actually more palatable than many restaurants we tried. I guess quality control can be an issue when serving unlimited portions. It was my first and probably last with the "all inclusive" model. If you were a binge drinker or eater, it might be different!!

Paradisus is a paradise! This was my second time at La Perla. My daughter and I were there in 2016 for a week, and this year my husband and I decided to bring the entire family. We had the master king suite with an adjoining room with two queens. The master suite was fabulous! I am one who always inquiries about the fitness center when traveling. Their fitness center did not disappoint. It was small, but it had everything necessary for a decent workout. They also had a good size aerobic room with a heavy bag and a speed bag which my boys took advantage of. Also in the aerobic room were spin bikes with a big screen monitor. You were able to choose from the screen various classes to take, including spin, Pilates, TRX, and much more! Oh, and they had two TRX's! Enrique gave excellent service at the fitness center. The food was good at some restaurants and not so good at others. The service was always excellent. Zahiye at Hadar was one of our favorite staff members! The reason I did not give this resort an 'excellent' rating was because it was not handicap accessible. My husband who is handicap had a difficult time. All the toilets on the resort are low in height and have no bars and no bars in the showers. As much as we loved this resort, we're unable to return because it was not handicap accessible. I hope in the near future Paradisus will accommodate those that are physically limited.

The purpose of this vacation was to destress from work woes. My husband and I stayed at LaPerla for five days in May 2017. It is a gorgeous resort and the service was excellent. ALL of the staff was super friendly..and I mean all. Not every did we walk past any staff and they did not offer a greeting. Hugo and the entire Activities team are a great bunch. We participated in the tequila tasting, wine tasting, and dance lessons and they were fun and gave a diversion from the beach and pool (if you want a diversion). We had a junior suite without royal service and I don't know how it could have been better! The room had plush bedding and was very comfortable. The turn down service each night was a special treat. Our mini fridge was restocked consistently at 4 p.m. each day. The YHI Spa is worth the treat! The facility itself is spectacular...very Zen-like. Husband had a deep tissue massage and I had a rejuvenating facial and both were excellent. If you go, make sure to take advantage of the extra amenities at the Spa. We stayed on the adults-only side and enjoyed the beach very much. We have two adult children so we have nothing against kids...however, it's very nice to be able to take a nap on the beach and not hear little voices. We didn't experience any of the wait times for service on the beach that some discussed. Someone was always stopping by to ask us if we wanted another drink or order something from the grill. There are restaurants that require reservations and some that do not. We chose the non-reservations ones simply because we didn't want to lock ourselves into a schedule. Beyond the normal buffet ones (and Hadar is quite good for breakfast...get the egg white omelet custom made...YUM!), The Grill on the adult side has a very nice menu. We ate there twice...I highly recommend the ribeye and the salmon. There was entertainment each night. Depending on your preference in music...some you like, some you don't. But....there are several bars that you can choose to hang out in. The Red Lounge has a nice vibe to it. A couple are open till 2 a.m. Now, here's the thing about the bars..they are open till 2 a.m. but all of the food places close at 11 p.m. so if you're going to have the munchies from bar-hopping, then you're going to need to grab some snacks from your mini-fridge! We took a tour to Tulum through BD Travel, who has a rep on site. It was only half day which was great for us since we didn't want to blow a whole vacation day. The 5th Avenue district is a $10 taxi ride away. Go there for real Mexican food...just expect to get the hard sell from street vendors. They're harmless, just smile and keep moving. Paradisus is located near an area that looks like it's being built up or something. The graffiti on the drive in kind of had us questioning our choice but once you get to the resort, it's really quite spectacular and you aren't walking around in town anyway! We'd recommend LaPerla to anyone looking to go to Playa del Carmen. When we visit Mexico again, we'll probably try one of the resorts in Riviera Maya just to have a comparison.
