Reviews for Rosewood Mayakoba

Beyond perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Rosewood Mayakoba with our 3 year old and it was magical from start to finish. We stayed in a rooftop ocean view suite which had 3 levels of outdoor space including a beautiful rooftop pool that was perfect to hang out at while our son was napping. The resort is well set up to cater to both couples and families and we were blown away by the level of thought that went into making the vacation as stress free as possible (crib with a baby camera was already set up on arrival, toddler-sized dressing gown and hangers provided, bikes with a toddler wagon outside our suite so we could bike around the property, plus some truly special touches which I won’t ruin the surprise on!). The staff were beyond helpful and friendly, in particular our butlers Ramon and Valeria who were hyper responsive and genuinely cared about making the trip as special as possible. One evening we wanted to take a boat to get to dinner and they organized a private boat tour on the backwaters at sunset which then dropped us off outside agave azul for dinner. Overall an exceptional hotel and couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Amazing way to celebrate 40th

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

My husband and I recently returned from a 3 night stay via NYC to celebrate my 40th without our children. We had an absolutely amazing time. I highly recommend this resort for a special occasion and like many other couples, in my opinion, the best way to enjoy is to leave the kids at home. It is very expensive, if you don't like spending money, don't go here. We felt the high premiums were worth it for the product. Feedback: We booked through amex and received an upgrade to a Deluxe Lagoon Suite. This room exceeded my expectations- was extremely spacious- TWO separate bathrooms(!!). You are provided with beach cruisers (bikes) to get around the large property and we loved this, but if you're not comfortable riding on a bike, you would need to rely on golf cart transportation. I understand the lure of beachfront (much more expensive), but we were perfectly happy on the lagoon. Since it was only 3 nights, we decided to do everything on property. I recommend booking airport transfer through the hotel, the airport is hectic. We loved the the events hosted on particular nights (ie the garden dinner on a Saturday and the beachside party on Sundays). I found these to be a better value bc priced per head vs. a la carte at other restaurants (such as agave azul). The events came with more personal touch and an opportunity to meet other guests- consider booking before you arrive, things reach capacity. We used the gym and spa- the gym is very nice, up to date equipment, we used treadmill, peloton bike and I took a yoga class. (The yoga class was an additional fee which was a surprise, most hotels in this category I find the classes are complimentary). The service- we LOVED the people at Rosewood Mayakoba. Please make sure to bring lots of cash for tipping because these people go above and beyond. Some highlights on our service: Chef Jonathan- we did the cooking class with Chef Jonathan (Which was more of a cooking demonstration which I didn't mind, but I would consider rebranding). He was so personable and we crossed paths with him several more times throughout stay and he was awesome. Sylvia- the host at La Ceiba. Her energy and warmth were amazing. Ascher- our server at the beach party, we loved him! Our housekeeping staff- I did not meet them but they always went above and beyond, even putting a mayakoba bookmark in my dog eared book and providing aloe vera for a sun burn. Butler Will- he was very communicative and helpful. On our last morning, we went to the beach at 7am (service begins at 8am) to soak in some extra time before our 10am car to airport, there was a gentleman working on the beach that saw us and went out of his way to set up a cabana and get us fresh towels and water. Wish I knew his name, but it was very kind/thoughtful. Our only "con" was our plunge pool was so hot it was unbearable to sit in. I finally thought to ask our Butler to lower the temperature which he was able to do, wish I had asked earlier but also wish the starting temperature wasn't so high. Its def more of a hot tub than plunge pool. The price of the airport transfer was high, but worth it (arrived with special treats, took the stress out of leaving airport) but we asked for a regular taxi on our way home (also a suburban), and it was about 1/3 the price. Three nights, for us, was the perfect amount of time. We were well fed, rested, met some great people, and had a blast. The other guests were lovely and friendly. We have stayed at Aman before where guests tend to keep to themselves/not talk but we appreciated the friendly atmosphere of Rosewood.

Disrespect for clients, their religion, local wildlife, bad service and staff ethics, arrogant management with attitude

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

There are serious issues at this place: disrespect for guests and their religion, and for local wildlife, poor customer service, poor ethics, and arrogant attitude of resort manager Christian Gonzalez who is rude to paying customers. First, despite being a secular place, the hotel promotes shaman rituals and psychic practices (exposing to their censors’ fumes and horns unwilling people of other beliefs - Christian, Jewish and Muslim visitors or locals, who may find it offensive or harmful). With all respect for Mexican/Mayan culture, imposing passive participation onsite in pagan occult, spiritualist practices (which would mean for these faiths - worshipping demons), while trying to make money, is highly unethical. Second, the hotel was disrespectful to the local wildlife, which I witnessed at the last visit. The butler was careless while riding a cycle and talking with his head turned back, and ran over a squirrel. Then, the security wanted to throw the dying squirrel into the bin. While I tried to help the squirrel and called a biologist from Mayakoba to give it the first aid, a security acted in a harassing and aggressive way. None of the staff were reprimanded, but I, the customer who tried to save the animal, was called a “man with a problem” by butler manager Isabel Gutierrez, who was later smearing me in a text message to their assistant manager Carol Maguina (which I inadvertently saw on her mobile as she texted in front of me). In general, they gossip about customers, even revealing their personal information. For example, these two individuals freely shared with me plans of the other guests I knew, such as their names and the dates of their stay, on two separate occasions. The staff at Rosewood spa were rude, dishonest and unpleasant - Bernie, Fernanda, and Yvonne, despite me being nice and friendly with them. They made mistakes in my bill, made me wait 20 mins for it, lied about a discount misrepresenting it in my bill, and when they realised I would complain, as I found out later, they lied and misrepresented the episode to their management. They lied about availability of appointments and spa supervisors. Resort manager Christian Gonzalez, instead of caring to improve customer service, condones bad service and staff lying and smearing clients. He said it was his job to "care about his staff" (not his customers). When I tried to talk to him about this behaviour, he talked to me in a condescending way, as if I was a pupil in a school, claimed that I should pay service charge even for bad service, and that asking for professional, courteous service without lying or making errors (or waiting 20 mins for the bill) was “harassing to staff” (and bizarrely asked me to make appointments if I wish to walk on their beach). Despite a regular client discount offered to me by spa manager Fabiola before (who in contrast to them is the only nice and genuine person in the spa and perhaps the hotel), I was criticised by him for asking for it. Turning things upside down, instead of showing care for customers, he promotes a hard leftist, woke political agenda, and tolerance to poor performance of his staff. The restaurants are nice, however, some managers can be rude and abrupt, on one occasion a restaurant supervisor talked to me in a gangster style which was shocking (not mentioning their name because they apologised and improved behaviour). Many staff members speak poor English and pretend they understand though they don’t which leads to some misunderstanding. Then they do everything opposite, and you should be happy with it and pay for it with a smile, you cannot complain in this leftist place. Overall, the staff in the hotel are quite spoiled and impudent, while management is arrogant and disrespectful to clients. The hotel is trying hard to sell an image of an ultra luxury place, but it is hardly so, due to very poor service standards / staff ethics. The General Manager Daniel Scott is always absent from the hotel, he ignored a request to address the issues, and a message sent to him.

Incredible service and top tier food, loved it! I had the ribeye quesadilla and it was so tender and flavorful! The ice cream is absolutely delicious, and I enjoyed it all from an incredible view of the lagoon and pool. I am Definitly going again

The most amazing beach vacation ever! From the moment we arrived, we were like 🤩🤩🤩. After check in, we got on an electric water taxi to our house and greeted by our butler. After unpacking, we took a bicycle tour, yes, these come with the house!
