Reviews for Viceroy Riviera Maya (delete)
We travel extensively and have been fortunate to stay at some of the finest resorts in the world from Tahiti, Saint Barts, Saint Lucia, We have stayed in numerous resorts in Mexico numbering in the 15 plus. This resort would rank in the top 3 of ALL resorts we have ever stayed at. And its the entire experience. The people, the food, the rooms, the beach and resort can not be described in words. We never have been back to any resort twice that we have stayed at. We are in our late 50's and take 3 nice week vacations a year to resorts. We will defiantly return to this property and maybe as soon as March. Do you self a favor and splurge to this place, you will be overwhelmed by everything you experience.

A great hotel, lush jungle, waterfalls, wonderful rooms. Stayed in the signature villa. Food was great, so nice to have breakfast by the beach. Wonderful attentive service including great people like Marcos, Pepe, Fatima, Sergio, etc. The Pool was great as well as the beach side amenities. Loved it!

The title says it all - we caught someone hiding below our window watching a private moment. The villas are not 'fully private' as they appear to be. Terrible experience and would not return. I will note that the head of security and reservations manager were very professional in handling this incident. I hate to leave a bad review knowing that most of the staff were great and welcoming however this truly ruined our trip.

All food was amazing. Service was incredible - they were always there when you needed something and always remembered your name. The rooms are huge and extremely private with large plunge pools and deck areas. The outside shower is so relaxing, you'll have difficulty going back to taking one indoors. The only complaint is that you're surrounded by less refined resorts, and their guests walk back and forth on the beach in front of the hotel, often loudly. Luckily, we loved enjoying our own private plunge pool, we didn't have to spend the whole day on the beach.Others complained that the noise from the surrounding resorts was a problem, but we didn't notice that as much.
I have not a single bad word to say about this property. It is simply perfect! The villas are outstanding. The service is spotless. Beach is clean. I had one problem, but NOT with the staff of the hotel but an experience we had on the 5th avenue in Playa del Carmen. While walking there and trying to find the restaurant which the butler at the hotel booked for us we were approached first by one local person who said in Spanish something about drugs. We asked him to walk away and then he grabbed my friend by his t-shirt and said some not so nice words. I tried to push him away when he then called two other strangers who took picture of us and said something which I did not understand. It was obviously an attempt of assault literally 100 meters from Coco Bongo and Thomson Hotel on the main street of Playa del Carmen. There were several people witnessing this and nobody did anything. There were 4 police officers standing in front of Thomson Hotel and we reported the situation to them to which they said that we should not care about them. By that time those two assaulters were standing 100 meters from us and were watching us talking to the police. I even pointed out with a finger towards them but the police did not do anything. As we felt literally very uncomfortable we started to walk very fast back to the car and drove back to the hotel trying not to be tailed by the assaulters. The next day I reported this incident to the security manager who offered help of any kind and said he will be discussing this with his contact at the federal police. I think two lessons from this is that the local police could have been more active in dealing with our problem. I am aware that there has been an ongoing cartel development in Playa del Carmen, but if the tourist industry allow tourists to be mocked by them without any counter actions something bad will really happen and this will hit the tourist industry badly. I would also advise installing CCTV on the 5th avenue to have monitoring there all the time. Lastly I will personally not return to Playa Del Carmen city itself due to this incident, but will not have a problem returning to your property.
