The Casa Colonial was over the top luxurious! We were the only guests for the first couple of nights and then thankfully a wedding party arrived. It was a tad quiet without other guests on our private beach. Fidel met us at the front door and check in was seamless with top notch professional customer service and a much need welcome drink. Fidel is a true gem and any property would be lucky to have him on staff. He drove us to a local beach restaurant and picked us up later. The private beach area is lovely and the locals selling their wares were not invasive or pushy in any way. They seemed to all be licensed with retail numbers and were very professional. Within a day they came to know that we were not able to purchase their wares. It is really helpful to have the Playa Dorada Mall right next door just outside the gates. You are able to purchase your own supplies and there are two excellent Italian restaurants there. We took advantage of these as well as the restaurant down the beach. My only regret is not having experienced the Lucia at the hotel and I’m not certain why except we thought it was pricy but in hindsight I would say it was not. Breakfast at the Casa was included in our package and they were amazing....fresh juice, fruit plates as well as anything you can imagine for breakfast. Service was superb! Most staff speak English very well. You could eat beachside or in the air conditioned comfort OR right on the beach OR in the privacy of your suite. We loved that it is not an all inclusive. We have been there and done that and this experience was much more to our current tastes. The suites were elegant, huge king bed with a perfect mattress and the linens and towels are the best you can buy. The staff arrived each evening with turn down service and a delectable bedtime snack. We were on the second floor and enjoyed the flora and fauna within reach. We were perplexed as to tipping but no staff showed any sign of expectancy. I would say they are all very well trained. We should have asked the concierge what the tipping policy is. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary so this property met all of our needs and much more! Worth every penny and it is not inexpensive but we were able to get a last minute price from Sunwing Vacations. Highly recommend this 5 star property.

We came to this boutique hotel and got impressed. From the bellboys to the reception was already an experience. The beautiful entrance gives you a feeling of beeing relax even before you check in. The gardens are very exotic and you can check on the spices garden to enjoy it. The room simply elegantly tropical. Bathroom with view to the room ans the sea. The balcony is right in front of the sea. I would like to mention a very special person in this vacation, and if you come here you habe to ask about her definitively: Charo!!! She is servimg at the pool area and at the beach restaurant. Her smile and positive attitude put a crown to this amazing experience beeing at Casa Colonial

What a fabulous experience! From arriving at the hotel through to departure the customer service was second to none. The hotel is small and intimate meaning it never felt crowded and the staff were able to be very attentive. The rooms were beautiful (we stayed there twice at the start and end of our trip), the food divine and the beach beautiful. Wish I could visit here regularly!

We wanted a quick getaway for the Easter break and from Miami, the DR is a 2 hour straight shot. I'll start with the island - arrival and clearing immigration & customs is a snap, there are no long queues - you do pay a US$10 entry fee, which can be prepaid (I did prepay), but even if we hadn't, there was no queue to get thru. The longest wait was for luggage! We arranged pickup thru hotel, US$35 flat rate. The ride is about 20 minutes. So, again, a super easy weekend from MIA. The hotel is lovely! It is located in the gated area of Playa Dorado. There is a golf course, and a small shopping mall with cheapy-cheapy gifts, but did have a pharmacy (it's a weird habit I have of going to international pharmacies to see what they carry). There was also a convenience shop for snacks and drinks, and one nice swimsuit shop. The hotel will bring you over in golf cart, or you can walk. The hotel itself is just stunning. All white and a nod to the sea, but not overly beach themed. The staff greets you with a drink upon check in and you sit and fill out paperwork with the manager. I booked thru SLH.com, and we were upgraded to a delightful room looking over the beach on the 3rd floor close to the pool. The room was completely tiled, which I absolutely prefer at a sandy beach hotel - it was spotless. There was plenty of storage, even a chest of drawers in the bathroom, which is always appreciated (and rarely the case!). The bed was very comfortable, and there was a large balcony which we used in the afternoons as it got breezy and very comfortable. The pool is also lovely, and clean. There are 3 not to HOT hot tubs looking over the beach. I cannot stop! It was so perfect! The beach was a bit dirty when we arrived due to a recent storm, but each day, it cleared up more and more until it reached the lovely blue we thought we'd find. The service was impeccable. Every person greeting us with an "hola" and a smile. It felt genuine - they seemed to really care if we were comfortable and had what we needed. Breakfast was included in our stay and could be taken in room, by the pool, or at the restaurant under the pool area. We had lunch several days on the beach and at the pool, and dinner twice at the main restaurant. The food was amazing. Nothing was wrong, with ANYTHING. It was all fresh, good quality and well prepared. We were really blown away. We ate at the following restaurants off property: Passatore, Sebastians, and the Green something or other. The first two were Italian and fantastic. The Green _____ was horrible, we left after starters, it was that bad. Cheap bar food, very greasy. We tried to eat at Yaboa, but they were closed each night we were able to give it a go. Another place that was recommended was La Terapa (the location in town, not at the mall) - we did not get the chance to eat here either. Another note: bathroom products are provided. I always like to know if I need to pack shampoo/body wash - etc. You do not. We did not use the spa, but we did use the gym in the mornings. There were 4 treadmills, a few elipticals, free weights, fairly basic and small, but got the job done. No rowing machine. Note that the A/C is not always on - you may have to find the thermo and turn it on yourself. When we used the facility, there was someone there one time, otherwise, we had the gym to ourselves. They do provide headphones if you haven't got any. We will be back to this lovely place again, it was a beautiful trip with fantastic people and great food. Very relaxing!

We had an incredible two nights at the Casa Colonial. From the bellman who made us laugh to the front desk staff and their lovely welcome drink - the minute we entered the doors we felt relaxed and cared for. Room #25 was beautiful. View of the ocean past the mangroves was lovely while having coffee on our deck. Bed was comfy and I wanted to take the pillows home. Housekeeping came three times a day and spoke English and were so sweet. We loved the jacuzzi pools and the view was amazing. We didn’t lay at the beach but walked it a bit. In the middle of all those all inclusive hotels we were so happy with our choice of Casa Colonial. To add, I left my EarPods at the pool and didn’t realize until I got home. When we called they looked and couldn’t find them. They apparently kept up the search because later in the week they emailed to say they had been found and are now being shipped to me. Was so nice as I figured they were gone forever! Thanks to everyone at Casa Colonial!
