We stayed for 7 nights at Casa Colonial in April 2017. My wife and I spend approximately 50 nights a year in hotels...this ranks as one of the best I have ever enjoyed. The customer service was remarkable...no detail was too small to be be overlooked. Whatever and whenever we needed something the staff were unfailingly generous and welcoming. Casa Colonial is a member of the SLH (small luxury hotel) group. Their membership is well deserved. Beautiful infinity pool on the roof adjacent to four whirlpools all of which provide a wonderful view of the ocean. Very good gym, excellent spa, tremendous food...this hotel does everything right. Without a doubt we will be returning!

Not much of a person in search of pampering, but if you are, this would be the place to go in Puerto Plata. This resort is tucked into a cove, and has an outstanding pool area overlooking the beach, complete with great food and drink. The beach is also a great place to tuck your toes into the sand, and do a little swimming. There are nearby all inclusive resorts, which had a bit of noise spilling out, but nothing too significant. The staff was outstanding, but they need more people to visit them. If you make your way to Puerto Plata, be sure to stay at the Casa Colonial.

In todays world you don't always what you get what you pay for. Casa Colonial is that rare case where you get much more than you pay for. The Hotel itself is a magnificent boutique property with only 50 rooms. Everything about it is perfect, from the marble floors, to the well designed furniture, to the orchards everywhere. In many hotels you can't find the help. At Casa Colonial there seemed to be three in help for every guest. The restaurant, the beach, the spa.....they were everywhere. And all eager and happy to help. We had a beach front room on the second floor that was beautiful with a nice balcony looking down at the beach. This is the only way to go. Another guest with a Garden room said that he was bothered by the music from the all inclusive next door. Well worth the few dollars for the upgrade. The Hotel has three restaurants and a great lobby bar. Each of the three had great food that was not only innovative and well prepared, but very reasonable in price. The bar has a great feel, and on Friday and Saturday there is a piano player. Having never stayed at an all inclusive resort my wife and I wondered next door to take a look. Casa Colonial is a thousand times nicer at not a huge price difference. The best way to compare the two resorts is the difference between going to McDonalds for dinner or the best restaurant in town. You feel the difference when you walk in the door.

We recently had our 4th stay at the casa colonial over the past few years. This is by far the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. I've been coming to the DR for the past 7 years and have stayed in numerous hotels including the Riu, Iberostar, Gran Ventana, Barcelo (before Sunscape), BeLive, and Gran Paradise. All the other hotels are cheaper but none come close to Casa Colonial. Staff is the best; very welcoming, friendly, and willing to help. Restaurant is very nice and food is delicious. Spa is great. My personal favorite is the pool and 4 hot tubs on the roof that overlook the ocean. Special shout out to Ramon, Miguelina, as the rest of the staff for being so great every year we come! The only small issue we had is the internet. In the past it was good but this year it kept constantly asking us to log in every time we wanted to use it and frequently lost connection on all of our devices (one of us ended up just turning it off and using an international data plan instead). Other than that everything was excellent!

A beautiful, small property, with outstanding personal service and attention from the staff. We spent a week there and loved the room, the beach, the food, the facilities, and, in particular, the staff, who went out of there way to accommodate every request. The food on the property was sometimes superb, often very good or excellent. We ate at the formal restaurant four nights and then switched to the beachfront and rooftop pool venues (which close ~6PM) for the final three nights. We liked the smaller plates at the more casual facilities. We highly recommend the seafood, but in particular the Branzino, ceviche and Mahi-mahi, the goat (cooked every which way), the Dominican stew (Friday only), and all liquor and mixed drinks - all of which were reasonably priced. Wine (all imported) was very expensive. Service was wonderful. The staff was warm and friendly (and in some cases, downright charming), and came to know and recognize us during our stay. Beachfront, poolside, and anywhere else, there were always folks to take care of any request - umbrellas, beach chairs, drinks, food, etc. Front desk staff was very helpful with logistical assistance etc. The beach was lovely and generally well maintained. The rooftop pool was gorgeous, and also beautifully maintained. As mentioned elsewhere, the general location of this place is a collection of much larger, louder, all-inclusive resorts. So we were subject to occasional music and crowd noise from the neighbors - but that was far less intrusive than what we'd normally encounter any day in season on Cape Cod. The room was huge, well maintained, and very luxuriously appointed. We stayed in #20, garden-view, which had a lovely balcony. Because we were there to unwind, we never left the resort itself. On the down side for this resort area, the level of trash in the water (and amount that washed up with the tides on the beach) was surprisingly high - not something we expected or that you would ever see anywhere in the US. Note that this is not an issue with the resort - they did their best to keep the beach area clean. But if you enjoy long walks along the beach, be prepared to dodge trash and crowds along the way. We would (and probably will) plan a return visit.
