We wanted a quick getaway for the Easter break and from Miami, the DR is a 2 hour straight shot. I'll start with the island - arrival and clearing immigration & customs is a snap, there are no long queues - you do pay a US$10 entry fee, which can be prepaid (I did prepay), but even if we hadn't, there was no queue to get thru. The longest wait was for luggage! We arranged pickup thru hotel, US$35 flat rate. The ride is about 20 minutes. So, again, a super easy weekend from MIA. The hotel is lovely! It is located in the gated area of Playa Dorado. There is a golf course, and a small shopping mall with cheapy-cheapy gifts, but did have a pharmacy (it's a weird habit I have of going to international pharmacies to see what they carry). There was also a convenience shop for snacks and drinks, and one nice swimsuit shop. The hotel will bring you over in golf cart, or you can walk. The hotel itself is just stunning. All white and a nod to the sea, but not overly beach themed. The staff greets you with a drink upon check in and you sit and fill out paperwork with the manager. I booked thru SLH.com, and we were upgraded to a delightful room looking over the beach on the 3rd floor close to the pool. The room was completely tiled, which I absolutely prefer at a sandy beach hotel - it was spotless. There was plenty of storage, even a chest of drawers in the bathroom, which is always appreciated (and rarely the case!). The bed was very comfortable, and there was a large balcony which we used in the afternoons as it got breezy and very comfortable. The pool is also lovely, and clean. There are 3 not to HOT hot tubs looking over the beach. I cannot stop! It was so perfect! The beach was a bit dirty when we arrived due to a recent storm, but each day, it cleared up more and more until it reached the lovely blue we thought we'd find. The service was impeccable. Every person greeting us with an "hola" and a smile. It felt genuine - they seemed to really care if we were comfortable and had what we needed. Breakfast was included in our stay and could be taken in room, by the pool, or at the restaurant under the pool area. We had lunch several days on the beach and at the pool, and dinner twice at the main restaurant. The food was amazing. Nothing was wrong, with ANYTHING. It was all fresh, good quality and well prepared. We were really blown away. We ate at the following restaurants off property: Passatore, Sebastians, and the Green something or other. The first two were Italian and fantastic. The Green _____ was horrible, we left after starters, it was that bad. Cheap bar food, very greasy. We tried to eat at Yaboa, but they were closed each night we were able to give it a go. Another place that was recommended was La Terapa (the location in town, not at the mall) - we did not get the chance to eat here either. Another note: bathroom products are provided. I always like to know if I need to pack shampoo/body wash - etc. You do not. We did not use the spa, but we did use the gym in the mornings. There were 4 treadmills, a few elipticals, free weights, fairly basic and small, but got the job done. No rowing machine. Note that the A/C is not always on - you may have to find the thermo and turn it on yourself. When we used the facility, there was someone there one time, otherwise, we had the gym to ourselves. They do provide headphones if you haven't got any. We will be back to this lovely place again, it was a beautiful trip with fantastic people and great food. Very relaxing!

We had an incredible two nights at the Casa Colonial. From the bellman who made us laugh to the front desk staff and their lovely welcome drink - the minute we entered the doors we felt relaxed and cared for. Room #25 was beautiful. View of the ocean past the mangroves was lovely while having coffee on our deck. Bed was comfy and I wanted to take the pillows home. Housekeeping came three times a day and spoke English and were so sweet. We loved the jacuzzi pools and the view was amazing. We didn’t lay at the beach but walked it a bit. In the middle of all those all inclusive hotels we were so happy with our choice of Casa Colonial. To add, I left my EarPods at the pool and didn’t realize until I got home. When we called they looked and couldn’t find them. They apparently kept up the search because later in the week they emailed to say they had been found and are now being shipped to me. Was so nice as I figured they were gone forever! Thanks to everyone at Casa Colonial!

We stayed again at this hotel and everything was beautiful and perfect as before. Service was great, the interior gardens and look of the building is very elegant. We had breakfast on our balcony each morning, quickly set up by room service. And of course, the warm-water Jacuzzi tubs on the roof, open 24 hours, has always been my favorite part! Absolutely nothing to complain about. We will be back!

The service here is unbelievable. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Offering you drinks, pulling out chairs for you. The floors must be swept constantly, everything gleams. The property itself is picturesque, lovely orchids everywhere. Beach is great. The view from the sand is wonderful, you see across this large bay, everything is blue and green. The rooms are huge and have every needed amenity. We are from Indiana and went with our two children. We just loved walking over to the restaurant every evening through the lovely garden to enjoy our dinner. We usually had breakfast in the room. If you want a totally relaxing, totally luxurious beach side resort, go here. I think this isn't considered an "all inclusive" resort because you are charging food and such to your room, but it is more lux than the all inclusive in that way and you are getting much more service. This must at the high end of the entire country of the DR. This would be ideal for honeymoon.

We visited Casa Colonial as it’s a SLH 5 star service 5 star rooms 5 star food 4 star gym and spa 4 star pool area Superb hotel however it’s the location that lets it down. The beach is not very nice , dirty water. The hotel is in between all inclusive hotels on the “strip” of beach. On the positive it’s close to the airport so you can jet off home easily. We used this hotel as our entry and exit from DR 2 -3 days is enough here.
