Ok, maybe in Africa they hate it when you refer to things based on the movie, in which case apologies, but the main lodge as well as our thatched garden cottage very much gave me the feeling of the understated elegance of Karen Blixen’s eclectic farm lodge in the movie Out of Africa. Sure, if you stay in Plett Bay you can have the view of the beach, but if you choose to stay at Hunter’s, you’ll have an entirely different experience not normally found. The grounds were beautiful, the buildings were wonderful, our thatched cottage was very comfortable and welcoming, the bed was good quality, etc, etc, all excellent. The staff here were exceptionally friendly and helpful, starting with the competent and energetic Patrick, an excellent host. For dinners, we did Sage (excellent) and Tsala (where we were less impressed - started with a duck appetizer and, having had some fantastic versions of this at other restaurants, I had to ask my wife, ‘where’s the duck here?’ - also thought the meal here was overpriced for what we had - anyways, Sage was by far a better experience for us). My only other point worth mentioning is that I think they should have more signage for the walkways to the restaurants, plus I think it would be a really good idea to give guests a site map on arrival, showing all the buildings, restaurants and paths. None of that detracts from the first-rate overall experience. I would happily stay at this excellent hotel again anytime, and am happy to recommend it highly. It really was a unique experience, don’t miss it!

We had a wonderful stay. The place has an enchanting relaxing feel. Especially enjoyed the Sage Restaurant food was excellent! Plus the staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms for a 5 star rated property are in need of some TLC. Regardless of that we are planning to return in November.

Enchanting place, best stay we’ve ever had! The rooms are beautiful and luxurious with vintage furniture, comfy beds, a fireplace, nice bathroom, amazing views and excellent service. We stayed in a lovely suite and enjoyed the bedtime poems and snacks, the perfectly maintained surroundings, the great restaurants and delicious breakfast and the peace & quiet. Can’t fault this one, if you get a chance do stay, you won’t regret it!

From arrival until our departure , our stay at Hunters Hotel was amazing. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Nothing's too much trouble for them. We stayed in one of the cottages with the swimming pool. The cottage is beautiful, it was the perfect place to spend a few days during our honeymoon. Hopefully we will back one day :)
