Koa Kea Hotel & Resort in Poipu Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

Waves crash near the lanais of Koa Kea Hotel & Resort's oceanfront guestrooms, a collection of low-profile buildings that blend with the nature around them. Inside, fresh flowers accent simple, modern island décor and art prints of coral. Koa Kea means "white coral," a tribute to the life-giving power of the reefs. According to Hawaiian mythology, coral is the goddess granddaughter of the world’s creator. From November to May, Koa Kea’s slice of the Pacific hosts a migration of humpback whales, so keep an eye to the horizon.

Brew a cup of Nespresso coffee and watch the slender white ocean birds dive for their morning meal. Join them on the shore. Beat the noonday sun with a hike through the rainforest on Kuilau or Moalepe Trail – only 10 percent of the Garden Isle is accessible by road. Swim in a secluded lagoon under a waterfall. Order a seaside dinner of bronzed diver scallops with pea sprouts in a sweet lilikoi beurre blanc.

This was our first time staying at Koa Kea and it won't be the last. Everyone calls you by name at this hotel, they really make you feel special. Jennifer checked us in, then took us to our room and showed us around. We had complimentary water, wifi, champagne, and a bottle of wine in our room. The bed was comfortable and the shower, TV, and the bath towels were huge!!! The staff was first class, the rooms and facilities were excellent, and the hotel's small size, around 120 rooms, gives you a very relaxed feeling. It might be hard to go back and stay at a hotel with 300 plus rooms. Koa Kea is not the cheapest place to stay on Kauai but it's worth every penny. You have to experience this place to truly appreciate it. We'll be back, for sure.

We have not yet stayed at the property; however we can say that the reason we booked at the Koe Kea Hotel is because of the fabulous service we received on several phone calls. We spoke with several reservation specialists and front desk people who were all very nice in answering all of our many questions. I did want to say a special thank you to Joanna, who spent an hour with me on the phone, answering all of our questions about the property, the rooms, and the area. She took the time to speak with the hotel manager about some of our questions, and was prompt in her return phone call. Thank you Joanna, and all the people we spoke with on the phone, for your kindness, professionalism, and honesty. We booked our vacation, and can't wait to spend a week at the Koa Kea.

We were greeted by very friendly and attentive valets. They were excellent the entire trip!!!!! Lots of advice and immediate service with our car and luggage. We were led inside by the valet and greeted with leis. We were taken to our room by one of the front desk staff. All front desk staff also serve as concierge. They were extremely helpful scheduling outings for us and giving us general advice about the island. Cindy was the best!! Our room was perfect. We were on the third floor and the view was spectacular!! Our room was set up with champagne, wine, water, ice, and chocolate!! Lovely boutique hotel for couples. We snorkeled directly out front. There were surprisingly quite a few reef fish, though not much coral. Watching the surfers every day was very entertaining. Come here for peace and relaxation. I also had a massage in the oceanside cabana. I chose the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage. Amazing!!! I do have only one complaint. There is no A/C vent in the bathroom. By the time I showered and dried my hair, I was already sweating again. For this beautiful, high-end resort, that was very disappointing.

Great resort. The breakfast package is definitely worthwhile. Staff was professional and views were nice. Would love to go back. They also let us use their departure suite on our last day in Hawaii to freshen up and shower after a day at the beach. That made all the difference.

My husband planned my 60TH birthday with a trip to Kauai - our first to this island. A friend has stayed at Koa Kea and recommended to my husband. It was a great choice from the small boutique size to the oceanfront room with balcony overlooking the water, great room and bed was beyond comfortable especially sound of ocean cracking every night. Staff is really customer focused! Valet parking great value and always ready to go and not pushing for add gratuity like so many. As far as convenience to restaurants, shopping, grocery, hiking, ocean, pool - I am convinced there is no place better in Kauai especially if you want the small size and quiet. Just voted #1 in all of Hawaii and we plan to return! Soon
