About the Hotel

Waves crash near the lanais of Koa Kea Hotel & Resort's oceanfront guestrooms, a collection of low-profile buildings that blend with the nature around them. Inside, fresh flowers accent simple, modern island décor and art prints of coral. Koa Kea means "white coral," a tribute to the life-giving power of the reefs. According to Hawaiian mythology, coral is the goddess granddaughter of the world’s creator. From November to May, Koa Kea’s slice of the Pacific hosts a migration of humpback whales, so keep an eye to the horizon.

Reviews for Koa Kea Hotel & Resort

Charm, location and staff are excellent!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

The location and staff at this resort are absolutely 5 stars. We also loved that it had character and did not look a big box hotel. It was right on the coast and walking distance to Poipu beach where the turtles come to sun every day. The room itself is spacious, comfortable and well decorated. Every room has a balcony which is really lovely in Hawaii. We turned off the AC and opened the screen door every night to get some of that amazing Kauai air. The beds are super comfortable and the closets are spacious enough for all your belongings! Possibly my favorite part of our room was the shower which is huge, marble clad and had amazing water pressure! They replenish water and coffee each day and provide full cleaning service. Outside, things were very thoughtful with showers to clean off after a beach day, water stations and lots of places to sit. The pool and hottub were great and I used the hottub more than expected given that we were in the tropics! People here love to sit by the pool and the one day we were there, the same people sat in the same chairs all day! If you don’t get a pool chair by 9 am, you’re out of luck. But we were mostly out so this wasn’t an issue. The only reason I took one star off was that the resort charges for things like overnight parking and beach chairs which feels a little like nickel and diming at this price point. But honestly this was small issue and I still highly recommend this place particularly to those who want luxury but not a large hotel chain.

Pillow upgrade

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Overall, all this place was amazing, nice and quiet. The grounds are super clean. I only really big suggestions that the pillows are terrible. You really need some nice soft, brown pillows. The rooms were clean to an amazing degree every day, and the views from the balconies were amazing. Also, everyone was really friendly and super courteous.

Romance All The Way at This Top-Rated Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Ko’a Kea is rated as one of the top luxury resorts in the world by several travel publications and because it’s a Meritage Property, it means you’re getting comfortable ocean front accommodations and amenities, far less children, and far less noise than other more family-friendly resorts. The downside, it’s one of the more expensive properties to stay at. I recommend the oceanfront balcony room (though pricier, the view was totally worth it).

An intimate serene experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This was the best hotel/resort experience we have ever had. The resort is intimate and quiet and really has that Kauai ambiance and vibes. When we arrived, Kasey was there to greet us with open arms. He was very attentive, explained the accommodations and showed us to our room. He even ordered us late night snacks. The food was incredible. We had room service two nights, the tuna and lobster gnocchi. We will definitely be returning.
