Koa Kea Hotel & Resort in Poipu Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

Waves crash near the lanais of Koa Kea Hotel & Resort's oceanfront guestrooms, a collection of low-profile buildings that blend with the nature around them. Inside, fresh flowers accent simple, modern island décor and art prints of coral. Koa Kea means "white coral," a tribute to the life-giving power of the reefs. According to Hawaiian mythology, coral is the goddess granddaughter of the world’s creator. From November to May, Koa Kea’s slice of the Pacific hosts a migration of humpback whales, so keep an eye to the horizon.

Brew a cup of Nespresso coffee and watch the slender white ocean birds dive for their morning meal. Join them on the shore. Beat the noonday sun with a hike through the rainforest on Kuilau or Moalepe Trail – only 10 percent of the Garden Isle is accessible by road. Swim in a secluded lagoon under a waterfall. Order a seaside dinner of bronzed diver scallops with pea sprouts in a sweet lilikoi beurre blanc.

Where do you begin .The perfect setting on the beach in Poipu. From the minute you arrive you are made to be the most important guests. The Hotel is all Valet and the guys in valet are the best. The grounds are well maintained the ame ties are great! You are within walking distance to several restaurants and shopping areas. There are not many kids due yo the fact there is nothing for them to do which is nice.Great pool and jacuzzi . I see why this boutique hotel is so highly rated. You will not be disappointed.

If you read 20 or so reviews you will get an idea of what everyone loves about this hotel. I couldn't have imagined a better choice for the price. Some of the outstanding amenities were: 1) great recommendations from the valet and front desk concierge staff. 2) speedy and friendly service from the valet staff (all valet parking). 3) nicely appointed and very clean / comfortable rooms with large showers. 4) a very relaxed vibe with very few young children at the pool. 5) excellent restaurant on site. 6) very reasonable water sports rentals on site. 7) beautiful beach viewable from the pool, and snorkeling / beach for sunning just steps away. 8) convenient location for many activities. We even walked to a shopping center 5 minutes away. 9) Housekeeping and turndown service was excellent and very reliable. 10) we booked a garden view room, but have a strong suspicion we were upgraded to a partial ocean view. (Mahalo, it was much appreciated). I would definitely return if coming back to southern Kauai, and will recommend to any friends going there.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we LOVED everything about this resort. The food is impeccable and the atmosphere is perfect for honeymooners and anniversary goers alike! I would not say that it is kid-friendly, but that is half the appeal of this hidden gem! It's quiet and perfect for the couple who just want to get away from every one and every thing. It truly is a gem among the noisy, touristy, family-friendly resorts that surround it. One step into Koa Kea and you just FEEL the difference! It is perfect.

We spent 5 days in Maui at Hotel Wailea and 5 days in Kauai at Koa Kea. Koa Kea sits on a beautiful location on Poipu. We loved the views and sunsets. Kauai has awesome activities. We enjoyed wonderful dinner and breakfast at Red Salt, the restaurant at Koa Kea. Servers and bartenders were excellent, although they appeared to be understaffed at times (only one bartender for a heavy bar crowd and service bar for restaurant every night we were there). Our ocean-view room was stylish and reasonably well appointed, if not a tad small for the price point. Concierge service and valet were super courteous and helpful upon arrival and while booking outings and excursions. The pool area and pool bar could use some improvements. The pool bar seemed to be understaffed at times. Service was spotty, even using electronic call buttons. Also, there was difficulty with people saving seats around the pool and it appeared Koa Kea allowed non-guests to use the pool area and pool bar. Also, after 10pm, we had to leave the fire pit because it closes at 10pm. The reviewers opinion: Koa Kea would also benefit from being an adults only destination.

The property is beautiful, staff is excellent. If you are looking for a place that isn't a big resort but with all the amenities this is the place. Small enough to not be bothered with loud guests that party. Small unique restaurants nearby that will satisfy all your food needs. I would stay again.
