Koa Kea Hotel & Resort in Poipu Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

Waves crash near the lanais of Koa Kea Hotel & Resort's oceanfront guestrooms, a collection of low-profile buildings that blend with the nature around them. Inside, fresh flowers accent simple, modern island décor and art prints of coral. Koa Kea means "white coral," a tribute to the life-giving power of the reefs. According to Hawaiian mythology, coral is the goddess granddaughter of the world’s creator. From November to May, Koa Kea’s slice of the Pacific hosts a migration of humpback whales, so keep an eye to the horizon.

Brew a cup of Nespresso coffee and watch the slender white ocean birds dive for their morning meal. Join them on the shore. Beat the noonday sun with a hike through the rainforest on Kuilau or Moalepe Trail – only 10 percent of the Garden Isle is accessible by road. Swim in a secluded lagoon under a waterfall. Order a seaside dinner of bronzed diver scallops with pea sprouts in a sweet lilikoi beurre blanc.

The hotel was super comfortable, not too big and the beach is right there. The pool and hot tub are great to relax in after a day of hiking and exploring. The staff was friendly. The massage was nice but nothing to write home about. The location was perfect for what we were looking for, we had a car.

We stayed here three nights based on the very favorable reviews that we had read from others. Koa Kea certainly is a luxury hotel, and it is a very comfortable place for adult couples. We had an oceanfront room with a small balcony, and it was just 50 or so feet from the ocean itself. In between is a public walkway, so while the view is great, your privacy is somewhat limited. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very well appointed, but they seem small despite their fairly large square footage. That’s because ceiling heights are low (I am 5’11” and I had no problem touching the bedroom ceiling, and the ceiling in the hallway area is even shorter. So if you are really tall, this may not be the place for you. Be sure to leave your young kids at home too, since they won’t be able to reach over the bathroom sink without you lifting them up. I have posted a picture with this review so you can see what I am referring to (the second picture is our ocean view) The fitness room is very well equipped (e.g. new elliptical machines with built-in TV’s), and a nice extra are the ice cold towels in a fridge at the door which help refresh after a good workout. Every room also has a built-in, bar-size fridge which came in handy for us.

We stayed 7nts for my 60th at Koa Kea and absolutely loved everything. We were extremely pleased with room 222 and the balcony with a stunning ocean view set perfectly near the lobby, pool, valet and beach. Koa Kea exudes aloha hospitality starting our day with aloha greetings from the best valets anywhere,Beverly Hills valets take notice, the breakfast outstanding, omelettes made to order. We began our day with a run/walks on Lawai Rd via the Kiahuna resort a short cut then follow surf school sign. The resort sits right on the ocean between 2 amazing beautiful beaches steps away. Waichol beach with calm waters for swimming and snorkeling(beautiful fish) and Kiahuna beach for surf and swimmingwith Poipu beach park just 1 minute walk away.We had a car so getting around to any restaurant took 2 minutes we also ate dinner at Red Salt our last night and it surpassed our expectations delicious. Also sushi in the bar was first rate and excellent. Thanks to Cindy at reception for always having a smile and meeting all our needs. Lastly we booked a Napali snorkeling catamaran tour that was breathtakingly beautiful with captain Andy thru the hotel and the price was same thing everywhere so thank you concierge. If you want an amazing relaxing fun beach vacation Koa Kea is that resort also we met wonderful people by the beautiful pool from all over. We can't wait to go back!

Very nice upscale resort. It is a smaller hotel, never feels very crowded but everything it well done and sophisticated. Always open lounge chairs and room in the pool and hot tub, nice clientele who are active and here to enjoy the island. Very helpful and friendly staff. It has the perfect beach location. We stayed with two teenagers and it was perfect.

Fiance and I had a fantastic time at Koa Kea. We spent 5 nights there for our "pre-honeymoon" after visiting Maui for 7 nights. This hotel was amazing. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They remembered my fiance and I and asked how we enjoyed the various sights we went to see each day. Special shout-out to Dustin at Valet and Kathleen at the Front Desk. The rooms are nice, but the beds could be better and more supportive. This hotel has a boutique feel. Very personable service at a reasonable price. When we return to Kauai, we will definitely choose Koa Kea again!
