I moved to the Grand Papua from a different hotel as it was recommended as the best place to stay. Being close to work was a bonus. I requested a beach view 1 bed apartment when one was available so moved into a street view room at first. I was informed I would receive qantas points for my stay (several times) but after checking each month for 3 months was told only short stay guests got points. The room I was eventually moved to was not clean ( dirty dishes in the dishwasher, cupboards dirty, pubic hair in the bath) and after 4 phone calls and 6 hours someone came to clean the bath. The worst part was the infestation of termites. The termites got into everything- as I discovered when packing up to move and I ended up bring a few with me, despite washing everything before packing. I requested a meeting with the GM, however, this was delegated to the long term guest manager (who was very helpful and reassuring, but the complaints were not addressed satisfactorily). The insects and termites (despite assurances of 'regular pest control services' ) got so bad after months of No action being taken and finding them in the bed and everywhere else,I moved back to the hotel I was at previously. Maintenance is slow (really, really slow) but I think it is because messages or requests do not get passed on. Overall a really disappointing experience for the huge monthly rates charged. The saving grace was the executive lounge staff and Shirley, the housekeeping supervisor. Still waiting for qantas points, which they announced early November would be available for long term guests- just as I moved out.

I am checking out today after being in the hotel for 22 days. I was told by others to stay in other hotels but so glad I stayed here. The local staff are friendly and engaging and the food was high quality standard in the restaurant and the cafe downstairs. I did dine out at other places but always found myself staying put in the restaurant because I enjoy eat fresh food especially the vegetables of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and bean which is a rare treat when you work in the Pacific. Every morning Lahui and Shelia would greet me and know what I wanted and nothing was a problem. Craig and his team in the restaurant were outstanding and compliments to the chef (s) I woke up to a sunrise over a water view every morning and the gym upstairs is very good. Comfortable rooms and most importantly I could work out of them Thanks again team I will be back at some stage.

If everywhere in the world made me feel as welcome as the staff at the Grand Papua I believe I would travel more. Comfortable room, excellent view from the window and outstanding service from the staff. Spent a lot of time in the Cafe and also dined in the restaurant. If we needed something we would check in with reception and our request would be attended to promptly. No hesitation to return to the Grand Papua on future trips.

Almost every day I needed to call housekeeping because of no cup or no water in the fridge. While the room was largish with a large bed, bright and with large windows, there were architectural novelties unexpected in a relatively new hotel. For example, power points in the bathroom could not be used because of their proximity to the fluorescent strip lights on either side of the mirror. Utilising power points on either side of the bed required moving the bedside tables to find them down near floor level. More power points were hidden behind the large desk/TV stand which could only accommodate the smallest Apple charger without moving the furniture. Over the sink was a cupboard containing some plates and an unused shelf at an angle! In a cupboard under the sink, cups and cutlery could be found in two drawers, if you thought to look in a drawer for cups! Some staff were relatively friendly but there was seldom a sense of being a welcome guest.
