I last was a guest at the Grand Papua 3 months ago and appreciate the improvements in housekeeping since. Recommending their Lounge Level 15 access - breakfast, meeting room & business facilities access plus the 5:30pm cocktails. The lifts however seemed a little dysfunctional on this trip and would go all over the place.

Port Moresby is a City in progress. Infrastructure is being built at full speed in time for APEC next year. New hotels are springing up. The City itself can be a challenge, some would say it is unsafe to venture out at night. The Grand Papua is on a hill with commanding views. It has an excellent Executive Lounge, and the food is OK without being outstanding. Rooms are clean, modern and well appointed with cable TV. The bar downstairs is popular when the Rugby is on. There is a wading pool suitable only for children. Function rooms are average but the staff do their best with whatever needs you have. It is central, around 25 minutes to the airport and has a complimentary shuttle each way. Very good given prevailing standard.

This hotel is okay at best. Nice rooms although lots of cockroaches and mould in the pictures so a slightly musty smell - also when opening drawers etc. Comfortable beds though. I had great sleeps there. For the most part the local staff are lovely and in particular a couple of the security guards were amazing - just so friendly and smiley even though they were out in the weather all day long. There just isn't alot of generosity going on in the hotel - even though they charge top $$$. The DVD player didn't ever work, the phone didn't work, sometimes rooms would be cleaned and fridges stocked, other times the bed would be made and thats it. also the pool is more like a water feature. i never saw anyone swimming in it and i stayed there for a long time. I certainly never went there as it is on the same level as the foyer so you felt on display. Also they advertise QFF points when you stay but it is only 1000 points per stay, so that is something to be aware of. Other places in POM offer 1000 points per night. Perhaps a good choice if you are working in Town or for just a night or two, but definitely better options over the hill. For my next trip i will choose the Stanley over the Grand Pap.

Spent a couple of day at the Grand Papua, the rooms are great and the decor of the hotel is just brilliant, the staff are great and extremely helpful and very friendly. The only let down was the food, it was somewhat disappointing compared to the rest of the hotel.

I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Grand Papua Hotel. Whilst a bit more expensive than the other hotels I usually stay in when I visit POM there is good reason for this and it's the level of customer service you receive. From the minute you drive through the gates the security team welcome you with beaming smiles and hellos. The staff at the front desk check you in swiftly and give you all the information you need for your stay. The team in the restaurant are amazing, they truly look after you like you are the only guest there, the same for the team in the bar, very attentive and friendly. I didn't use the gym or the spa but I will next time. The added benefit is that it's 5 mins from our offices. See you in July!!
