I cannot recommend the Grand Papua Hotel enough. It is top notch in every way. I had a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment with kitchen and laundry facilities. I didn't use the kitchen but definitely used the washing machine as i was there for a week. PNG has quite a reputation for being not the safest place to visit but I felt very safe in the hotel as they had security on duty 24 hours a day, I was on the ladies floor with keycard only access and their were additional locks on my door so I slept safe and sound in my very comfortable king bed. I didn't manage to use the pool or gym but did try out the Executive Floor lounge with its free breakfast and happy hour drinks along with the restaurant on the ground floor. This offers both breakfast and dinner and the best bit is someone will cook your eggs to your liking. The staff were lovely, very helpful and friendly. I thoroughly recommend this hotel as a base for your time working in PNG.

This is a top-class hotel in every way. Consider taking a room with Executive Lounge access - its a lovely spot, beautifully furnished, wonderful view over the harbour, good breakfasts including a chef for a freshly cooked repast if you prefer, not bad coffee, and a nice place to meet. The rooms are excellent as are the bathrooms. If a woman travelling alone there are women-only floors. Rooms have either sea or harbour views. The dining room and bar are wood panelled and very comfortable, both have excellent food and service and there is also a coffee shop on the swimming pool level. The gym is good (top floor with views). Security is excellent. Linen is lovely and mattresses and pillows top class.

I've availed the free night accomodation, being a pacific privilege member, in this hotel. For a free night,a member is allowed in premier room only with additional K150 if you like to access the executive lounge (children not allowed). The room has a king size bed and it's good and comfortable. Though, the pool is not big,it's still ok as my children enjoyed swimming. The restaurant in the hotel had no buffet breakfast or dinner offered during our stay so we ordered a la carte. The food is also nice. The location is overlooking Ela beach and still have to drive out if you want to dine outside the hotel. There's really nowhere to go near the hotel so staying here means a relaxing stay as you will only think of enjoying the facilities (restaurant, pool, gym) the hotel offers or sleep in their comfortable bed.

I last was a guest at the Grand Papua 3 months ago and appreciate the improvements in housekeeping since. Recommending their Lounge Level 15 access - breakfast, meeting room & business facilities access plus the 5:30pm cocktails. The lifts however seemed a little dysfunctional on this trip and would go all over the place.

Port Moresby is a City in progress. Infrastructure is being built at full speed in time for APEC next year. New hotels are springing up. The City itself can be a challenge, some would say it is unsafe to venture out at night. The Grand Papua is on a hill with commanding views. It has an excellent Executive Lounge, and the food is OK without being outstanding. Rooms are clean, modern and well appointed with cable TV. The bar downstairs is popular when the Rugby is on. There is a wading pool suitable only for children. Function rooms are average but the staff do their best with whatever needs you have. It is central, around 25 minutes to the airport and has a complimentary shuttle each way. Very good given prevailing standard.
