Terrific time as usual from the moment I pull up to the valet. My forth time in the past year so it was nice to be remembered. Check in seamless, rooms comfy (love the slippers) and just my favorite all around hotel when I'm in Portland. If you're lucky, you may spot a celebrity or two. Can't wait to go back.

Great location and I always love to enjoy the local art that the hotel has. I can easily jump on a train or street car or walk to all the stores. Rooms are comfortable and towels are super plush! Urban Farmer and Departure are delicious! I loved the salmon.

Spent one night in Portland at the Nines and really enjoyed my stay. Room was spacious and tastefully designed. The restaurant and bar area was also nice, which had a delicious crab omelette for breakfast. Also had forgotten my toothpaste, which the front desk was able to quickly provide/ deliver late at night!

For nine years, my family have made The Nines our singular choice when visiting friends in Portland. The property had previously been excellent and stood out as the best hotel we've stayed in North America (see my September 2014 review). Sadly, they likely have lost our business. My wife and daughter recently visited for a three-night stay starting Saturday, 8 April. Besides them, I wonder who out there also experienced not being able to check-in on time for nearly three hours? The answer is about 30 to 40 other folks. That’s what my wife and daughter noticed in The Nines’ gorgeous eighth floor lobby, and that’s what nine-year veteran manager Ibrahim confirmed as well when I spoke to him later that same evening. To his credit, Ibrahim offered his deepest apologies, a $60 dining credit (thanks but no thanks since it would only have resulted in my wife and daughter spending more than that amount on food service) and 3,000 Starpoints (yeah…uh, I’m still waiting). Of all the things a hotel should get right, checking in your guests at the appointed time (3:00pm) is an absolute, non-negotiable, do-not-pass-go requirement. The reason for this fiasco was The Nines provided an exorbitant number of late checkouts that day. That’s a great Starwood benefit which I appreciate, but you best come correct on the backside for incoming guests. Based on some other reviews I’ve researched, this is not an isolated incident and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking with the hotel ahead of time about your check-in arrangements. I emailed GM Jean Marc Jalbert to get his thoughts, but he failed to reply. As I try to do with all my reviews, here’s some things The Nines still do well: Heidi, awesome concierge services and poise on what clearly was a trying afternoon. Shoutouts to Tiffany for hanging in there on the phones, taking my less than pleasant call, and doing all the things I asked her to do to provide my wife and daughter on when they could expect to be in their room. And lastly, Valet/Taxi/Front of Hotel Team…still friendly and still killing it with their engaging, customer-first service. The Nines Hotel has been very good to us. It had been both of my daughters’ favorite hotel in the world. But SPG’s recent merger with another hotel line leaves many options for our regular trips to Portland. We’ll likely look at other options…and think you should too.

My wife, 12 year old twins (boy and girl) and I stayed from April 11-14th. The hotel was lovely, with a "boutique" vibe. All staff was great, but had greatest interaction with the valet and bell desk personnel. Location is walking distance to just about everything in the downtown area. Urban Farmer breakfast was good and presented nicely, but was a tad overpriced. Maybe I missed it at check-in, but I had no idea about "Departure', the bar on the 15th floor, until my local cousin told me about it on our last night. We checked it out for a few minutes. Cool spot and we'll actually have a drink next time. Valet parking at $47 per night is getting out of hand. I'm sure The Nines pays dearly to rent parking space downtown, but this is too high.
