About the Hotel

In the picturesque town of Porto Ercole, on the southeastern shore of the island of Monte Argentario, is Il Pellicano. This truly beautiful resort, situated romantically on a cliff overlooking the sea, is a gem of Tuscany, Italy. With simple and elegant style, each room is designed with flowing architecture reminiscent of a charming old Italian cottage. Brightly lit, with pure white walls and warm brown stone floors, the atmosphere is airy and open with large double doors leading to the warm coast. The rustic luxury of this hotel is sure to enchant and delight, and when you step out in the early morning to view the sun rising over Tuscany, you may never want to leave. This is life at Il Pellicano, and falling in love with Italy has never been so easy.

Seriously, so many better beach spots in Italy

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

I’ve stayed all over and this spot is just ok for the price point: Positives - gorgeous / manicured grounds - service at the bar downstairs towards the water was superb - room was nice, albeit nothing extraordinary - beautiful pool Negatives - as a general matter, service was indifferent and candidly uncomfortable at times … don’t dare laugh at the pool or seemingly have an innocent jovial time …. Shhhhhh. Lol - food was just ok … this was surprising to our group as we expected so much more - check in was chaotic and for reasons unknown to us … sorta rude Prior to pellicano my wife and I (and friends) enjoyed hotel de la Ville in rome … same luxury price point, but we walked away with nothing but smiles and no complaints. We were at a Relais in Tuscany too … same … fun, no complaints. This play was just meh. Trust me there are so many better coastal destinations in Italy. Pass this one up.

Il Pellicano / An old haunt combined with modern luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

My wife and I had an amazing experience at Il Pellicano. Like stepping back in time, combined with all the modern luxuries one would expect at a property of this caliber. We stayed for several nights in early Oct and the weather could not have been better. The hotel concierge, Linda, will look out for your wellbeing and has great suggestions for regional experiences. The restaurants are fantastic, but nothing beats the seaside hangout.

Beautiful room, beautiful beach and pool but awful dinners. Hotel is in a desolate location. Book Taxis in advance.

Our room was gorgeous. The hotel is also located in a gorgeous location; a beautiful pool and beach. The staff were nice. Breakfast and lunch were good. But every dish we had for dinner (a total of 4) was either awful / unedible or mediocre. We were under the impression that the Chef does not seem to like serving traditional dishes and prefers to experiment at dinner. Another thing is that the hotel is in a desolate location. If arriving by taxi at the rail station in Orbetello, book a taxi in advance. There is a shortage in the area. On the day we needed a taxi to go to the hotel it was impossible to find any. Fortunately an employee of the hotel on his day off rescued us. Unfortunately I forgot his name. He was our Guardian Angel and came to our rescue. In the summer there are mosquitos in the evening so it's good to have insect repellent. That problem was easily solved and is not the hotel's fault. It's normal when one is in the middle of nature which makes the location so beautiful and unique. We enjoyed our stay for a few days and it was a unique experience.

La Dolce Vita in Porto Ercole

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

This place is heaven on earth. So beautiful. The pool & beach are like what one finds in places like Positano & the Amalfi Coast but without the same crowds. The hotel was previously a private home. It has its own private cove. The service is attentive everywhere in the hotel. The food & beverage were delicious and afforded stunning views. There are many activities on site. And all less than 2 hours from Rome/Fiumicino.

a magical stay!

We had the most incredible stay at Il Hotel Pellicano and can only hope to return again and again over the years! The hotel itself, the staff, the food, the views... it was all just absolutely incredible and we feel so fortunate to have been able to experience it. Thank you a million times over for a magical three days!
