Amanzoe in Porto Heli, Greece

A modern hilltop acropolis, Amanzoe is a peaceful retreat from which to explore nature and coastal pleasures along with the ancient heritage of the Peloponnese. Surrounded by undulating olive groves and overlooking the turquoise Aegean Sea, is a ten-minute drive from the tavernas and the cosmopolitan stirrings of Porto Heli. The isles of Spetses and Hydra are nearby, as are countless ancient ruins, from millennia-old amphitheatres to Byzantine monasteries.

Drawing on classic Greek architecture, with strong lines and a pared-back aesthetic, Amanzoe’s standalone Pavilions all open onto terraces with private plunge pools and views of the surrounding land and sea. Each Pavilion is accessed via a stone-walled courtyard, leading to a high-ceilinged living area. Situated directly on the beach, the spacious, air-conditioned Beach Cabanas provide all the comforts of a Pavilion, combined with a terrace, private garden and swimming pool. Guests can enjoy a day on the beach, swimming in the sea, discovering bays by canoe and sunbathing in privacy. Amanzoe’s Villas are cool, spacious abodes surrounded by olive groves. Overlooking the Aegean Sea, each of the four-to-nine-bedroom Villas features an open terrace with sand-coloured marble floors, traditional dry stone-clad walls and concrete columns and cornices. A chef and a host serves each one. Our dining facilities are opened to guests and non-residents. Simple, contemporary Greek and Mediterranean dishes emphasise locally sourced ingredients at Amanzoe, which receives daily deliveries of local bass, bream, grouper and crustacean, as well as locally reared lamb, pork and rabbit. Meals are served in the airy Restaurant, with its deep-blue sea views, as well as at the Pool Terrace, the informal Beach Club or surrounded by candles in private. The holistic healing of Hippocrates are the inspiration for Amanzoe’s light-filled 2,850-square-metre Spa, combining diet, gymnastics, exercise, massage and sea bathing with modern natural products and treatments. A gym is also available, and studios host yoga and Pilates sessions.

This was our third time at Amanzoe having been in the 2014 and 2016 seasons. This place is like a fine red wine just keeps getting better every year. We enjoy meeting the same staff time and time again and service is impeccable. The Spa is absolutely to die for. This is not about aromatherapy massages but a far more holistic and rewarding experience. They had a guest therapist in residence this time called Sabine. She was practicing Chinese medicine and all her treatments were phenomenal. Same goes to Zoe with yoga classes and Thai massage and Manos with the aquatic bodywork. The entire Spa experience is something we are unable to replicate anywhere else but Amanzoe. Food wise this season saw the introduction of Nama restaurant by the pool side. This was a huge improvement on the 2016 season when an Asian fusion restaurant was trailed in the pool side and was fairly mediocre - see my earlier review. However Nama was an absolute delight. Professional executed Sushi, Sashimi and overall great Japanese cuisine. We were very impressed. Our only let down was that they would not cater in the room with any of the items from the Nama menu. The beach club continues to be a star winner both in terms of food and service and Fotis in particular continued to take care of our every need as per the years before. Overall a very enjoyable and memorable stay and we look forward to coming back in the 2018 season.

Absolutely luxurious and fabulous location. Amenities are beyond compare. The staff cannot do enough for you. You feel like you were living in a “modern“ ancient Greece. Designed like a fabulous modern Acropolis. Glorious sunsets, fabulous gourmet cuisine, and amenities beyond compare

Stayed here in October. Location is a Aman quality, great facility, modern architecture and nice influences of Greece. Typical Aman. Also very quite, people are well spread out, never any noise. Rooms are outstanding, very luxurious and maintained continuously during the day as Aman does it so well. Room locations can be northern facing which can result in less sun in the patio, swimming pool or beach are alternatives. Did not bother us but did surprise us in the layout of the resort. Food is talked about. We thought it was fine but have had better. Staff was asking at every meal how we liked it and clearly were collecting feedback. Suspect changes might come, but again we enjoyed it. We found it a joy, real good service and perfect property.

While I have been to a number of Aman properties, Amanzoe is a standout. The room was absolutely amazing, there were fantastic activities - some included and some off site that are a definite must (Mycenae and Epiduras guided tour), wonderful food, excellent location and views, with the standout being the service and attention to detail.

A beautiful club hotel on the south western coast of the Peloponnese. The private beach reachable by bicycle is astonishing and worth the ride. The pool and wellness center are a must. The breakfast on the sunny terrasse is the highlight.
