Definitely NOT a five star hotel

This hotel is in a wonderful location, only a few metres from Old Town Square. The rooms are well furnished with heavy carved wood tables, desks and chairs, polished floors and beautiful drapes. Unfortunately this does little to compensate for very poor levels of service provided. I booked a 4 night stay and upgraded to a Junior Suite. We arrived at lunchtime but room was not available until 3pm. We were taken down a lane and down some steps to a large room, which appeared OK. However, on closer inspection we noticed that the only window did not open and we could see outlines of many people walking past. I went outside and saw that this beautiful stain glass window was on a street, almost at street level. (photo attached) I asked at reception and they admitted the room would be noisy at night. I asked to change rooms and was told that I could change the next day - it was very noisy that night. So we had to pack up and leave the room the next morning and put our luggage in storage until 3pm. We then got allocated a 'Deluxe suite'. This was on an upper floor and looked out over the courtyard. The room was stiflingly hot - over 26C - so I asked reception to fix the air con. I got two replies (1) the air con is centrally controlled and not yet switched on, and (2) its broken. (interestingly, an earlier review quoted exactly the same excuses). A fan was delivered. We left it on constantly and kept windows open and curtains closed. I attach a photo of the resulting temperature. Totally unhealthy. The suite had two TVs. Neither worked. One afternoon, my wife went to the courtyard bar for a drink and a seat in the sun. The bar was very quiet, with few customers. She sat at the only table in the sun. Staff told her to move as a single person cannot sit at a table for four! She complained to reception, who did nothing. We didn't spend another penny in the hotel after this. We had Bed & Breakfast, the buffet breakfast is in a tiny room, seating 14 people, accessed through the kitchen and down some stairs. There isn't a great deal of choice available.

Great central hotel

Beautifully restored old Prague building. Full of fascinating carved wood furniture which adds to the undoubted class of the hotel. Rooms very comfortable and superb bathroom - sadly the shower over the bath has no handles to help elderly/disabled guest to hold onto to enter shower or climb out - I mentioned this to the reception team on check-out and hope they take note. The staff were delightful, service excellent - superb breakfast buffet - I should have appreciated a choice of eggs other than hard-poached. I should certainly stay there again if in Prague

Great location, experience extremely poor. I would not recommend

You cannot fault the location and the building has been beautifully restored. However there were so some real downfalls and we wouldn’t stay again. It felt like they have cut corners with service, quality and experience. It is not a 5* hotel. Note booking.com are not sending out review requests for this hotel which is concerning, so I doubt their 8/10 score is representative. Some of the concerns: Noise, our room back on the lift so we could hear when people arrived and departed. We could hear above and around us, no sound proofing at all. No hand soap, something they don’t provide! I called and asked, given a sharp response. What 5* hotel doesn’t provide hand soap?? You cannot control your own room temperature. This meant hot stuffy evenings, I was told the air conditioning is controlled centrally so we couldn’t turn down the heat (and needed to wait or on an call to reception they said they couldn’t turn down the heating!). 21.5 degrees at night is too hot to sleep. Ended up being given a fan as there was nothing they could do! This seems ridiculous for a 5* hotel. Internal room, not told about this. Windows opened up into an internal corridor! Seemed really odd and again not able to get air into the room. I would have not booked or upgraded if we had known prior. Television glitchy Bathroom toiletries low quality Manner bad, on check out they didn’t even ask if we’d had a nice stay. That is a very basic thing to do. We ended up skipping breakfast at some points because it wasn’t worth it. Hot dingy room, watered down juice, basic produce and quite frankly not very appealing. Additionally bad service. It didn’t make us want to try the hotel restaurant for sure. Be very cautious before booking, good location but overall experience very poor. Again, booking.com did not send me a review request and I think this will mean their score remains above 8/10. I suspect others have had similar issues.

Very good option in Old Town Prague

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This is a very good hotel in the Old Town of Prague. Centrally located within 3 minutes walk to the Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock, it was however in a quiet area. The decoration is heavy on wooden carved furniture, and they also have a restaurant named 'Deer' within the hotel (excellent food, spectacular dinner). I travelled with a family of 4, so were able to review 2 types of rooms, which were in different buildings, since this was an old noble palace retrofitted to hotel (therefore no rooms is alike). Rooms were large, one with a newly remodeled bathroom, the other one with an older bathrooms. Furniture was again mostly carved wood, with elegant touches of paintings and statues. Toiletries were excellent. Staff was very helpful, despite the hotel being very busy. Breakfast was good, with freshly baked bread daily. Overall a good spot in Prague if you are planning to stay close to all the attractions in Old and New Town.

Superb location and classy place

Lovely 3 night stay in a junior suite (number 6), I upgraded from a normal room at time of booking l and requested this particular room following sight of a photo to the hotel. Entrance was via court yard, with room up a flight of private stairs. Not sure i’d have liked to have been on the ground level. Very tastefully decorated, room above was a bit noisy one of the night chatting on and moving furniture about in the early hours. But not the hotels fault. Location is superb, this was my third stay in Prague and the location can’t be beat in my opinion. Was told by the member of staff who took us to the room that all food/drink is chargeable, it’s a shame that nothing was complimentary given its 5 star. Breakfast was decent with good options, albeit manoeuvring around people in the small room was difficult. Should I visit this beautiful city again, I would definitely stay here.
