Reviews for 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

Overrated

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

I think the hotel is overrated for the price. It does have a nice semi secluded beach that’s protected from big waves. The staff at the valet is super friendly. The Hawaiian ladies at the reception are really nice, the other one is not so nice. We wanted to eat at Wailea terrace but their hot food side was broken so they weren’t serving much for dinner so we had to go elsewhere. I went to the spa for a massage, overall it feels like a basic spa with the Bamford amenities.

Beautiful stay in Kauai

My husband and I stayed at the 1 Hotel for 5 nights. This hotel is beautiful and the only luxury property in Hanalei. The service from the valets, to the front desk, to the bartenders and waiters, everyone was so helpful, nice and accommodating. We were in an ocean view king room . It was very comfortable with lots of space . It had a filtered water dispenser which was a great touch. They also had a Nespresso and tea kettle. They did not provide teabags, but I was able to get some at breakfast. The breakfast was great, nice selections on the menu and also a buffet. The breakfast sandwich and pancakes were our favorites. We ate in the Terrace as well. Very small and expensive bites, not sure it was worth the cost . However the live music and sunset moment was great . The spa was really great . I had a scrub and massage with Asher. He was exceptional. He was very skilled and intentional. One of the best massages I’ve had. And not your typical hotel experience. My husband also had a great experience with both a massage and a haircut. The hotel is also geared to families, so lots of kids and a large pool area for kids and families . We stayed mostly at the adult pool which was small, but great service . Hannah took good care of us . The hotel is also an easy 10 minute drive into Hanalei so it was easy to go town and enjoy the shops and restaurants there too.

Superb natural setting, with a tired refurbished and crowded peoperty.

When the St. Regis closed, 1 Hotel took over, renovated the property but the renovation lacks sophistication. It does not seem to have a direction. The rooms have low ceilings, making them feel claustrophobic. The showers drip water from poorly sealed plumbing. Doors and furniture have scratching, a sign of age or poor maintenance. The overall property's lay out is cumbersome. The staff is pleasant, smiles and is attentive. The 1 is and feels crowded. The property is fairly isolated so guests have very little options of things to do or places to go outside of the well manicured compound. The food is average at best. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Island would be well served by a property that has sophistication while retaining Hawaiian traditions. The 1 Hotel attempt leaves a lot to be desired. Not the experience I had expected, mostly because guests all gather in large number in the same areas, with loud music providing the topping on the cake. Average in taste and decoration, in fact it borderlines a motel feeling. Overpriced for what it is. Do not forget that the location, the natural setting itself is gorgeous.

Great experience in paradise

My wife I have been to this property several times when it was the St. Regis and were excited to see the renovations since it became 1- Hotel. We decided to bring our 2 children and celebrate my son’s 11th birthday. This place had a special place in our hearts as it was the first trip my wife and I took when we were dating all those years ago! 1-hotel and especially the hotel GM, Mathieu, did not disappoint. The room was amazing and more than we could have asked for. The staff was friendly and inviting and the food delicious. The breakfast is a must because waking up to that view each morning is the only way to start your day. The property offers a great family pool that the kids loved, but also a separate “adults only”pool, if you need an escape! The gym was top notch and the resort has plenty of activities for everyone’s liking. The personal touch from the staff and hotel manager knowing this was a special week for us is really what made this a memorable trip. They even surprised my son with birthday gestures and the smile it brought to his face was something we will never forget. I highly recommend a visit here for a family or couples. This resort offers the best regardless of what you are looking for and the staff will ensure it’s an unforgettable visit. Thank you, 1- Hotel Hanalei. We will be back for sure.

1 Misses Aloha

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We have been going to Kauai for decades and have seen this oddball hotel through all its incarnations - but this 1 takes the cake. While there are many visually beautiful aspects of the transformation, like the Libby, guest rooms, gym and guest areas, there is an overwhelming sense that this hotel has zero “aloha.” It’s a place where silence isn’t golden, it’s deafening and there is a lack of flowers and colors - although there are a million more plants. The staff was nice, but seemed controlled and unhappy at times - as if they didn’t believe in the place. The food was very good but obscenely priced and while there were empty tables - we often had to wait to be seated. The rooms are huge improvement but still suffer from the original architecture - low ceilings and PRACTICALLY NO LANAIS. This is Hawaii - I want a huge lanai. The pool is very similar and nice as previously, with better landscaping and furniture, but needs more color and fun. While the physical hotel is MUCH BETTER than previous versions, the lack of warmth and a true sense of “aloha” AND obscene pricing makes the “1” a one time visit only.

My new husband and I purchased a Luxury Link package to stay at the St. Regis Princeville Resort and we LOVED it! We have a spectacular ocean view and champagne upon arrival. Our breakfasts and a dinner were included with the package, and everything was delivered with the utmost grace and kindness. The food, the rooms, the service... everything was impeccable. What an incredible package! We highly recommend it to anyone!
