Castle Hill Resort & Spa in Proctorsville, Vermont

Hidden away in the heart of Vermont's scenic Green Mountains is the elegant full-service Castle Hill Resort & Spa. Part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, this New England gem, located in lovely Ludlow, recaptures the gracious lifestyle of a bygone era. The estate, built at the turn of the 20th century, offers several styles of accommodations including rooms in the original mansion, as well as state-of-the-art resort-style homes. Guest rooms have varying appointments including decorative fireplaces, soothing whirlpool tubs, period furnishings and more. The freestanding homes are capsules of luxury offering complete privacy, multiple rooms and gourmet kitchens. On winter nights curl up in front of the fire, make a pot of bubbly fondue, or dim the lights and watch as snowflakes fall.

Dining at Castle Hill Resort and Spa is an experience all its own. The menu is a creation of French-influenced American cuisine offered at breakfast and dinner. The inn also boasts the only full-service spa in the region with a focus on fitness, wellness and mental restoration. Drape yourself across a massage table for a treatment that is likened to an out-of-body experience at this Aveda concept spa, where aromatherapy is also part of the philosophy. The region offers plenty of activities including skiing, sledding and snowshoeing during the winter, and golf, tennis, hiking and fly fishing dominating the warmer months. There are also outdoor concerts to enjoy, scenic gondola rides, leisurely drives through covered bridges, and plenty of shopping and gallery hopping too.

The hotel is truly a jam!!!!!! History in every corner. The staff is incredible, really making the guests feel special in every way This was my second stay in the Castle. I got the impression that they need start giving the building some TLC as it is an old and beautiful structure that can't and does not deserve to be forgotten

From the time we drove up the hill till we left we loved everything . Step back in time with the class of dark carved wood to plaster carved ceilings . The decor was eye catching and the Rooms were richly decorated in deep dark colors . The food was 5 star and the Beef Wellington did not disappoint !!! The chocolate mouse melts in your mouth . If you want a romantic get away head to the Castle !!!!

We stayed at this lovely historic stone mansion for our anniversary. Normally we don't stay at places in this price range, but we scored a good online coupon and scaled up our night away. The inn is a stately antique stone mansion that maintains much of its original interior and exterior features, but with modern amenities tastefully included. Given the historical nature, the interior decor is dark in color and could be perceived as somber by some but those who appreciate the period aspects of the place will recognize its beauty. I especially liked the library on the ground floor where you could order a drink and lounge in a plush chair and imagine you were hanging out with Gatsby. The room was a comfortable size with quality furnishings, but the third floor room had a very small window which was a little disappointing. The bathroom was altogether normal which didn't bother us. I imagine some of the other rooms may have fancier baths. The heated pool and jacuzzi at the spa were nice and the fitness room is very well-equipped but I wasn't there to work out. We chose not to eat on-site for two reasons and neither have to do with the quality of the food. The menu is a fine dining offering that is French inspired. It seemed quite good, but it was pricier than we were willing to spend. For travelers from more metropolitan areas the price would probably seem quite reasonable. The other reason we chose to eat off-site was that the ambiance seemed too formal and stiff for our interests that evening. The castle is a fine place to stay if the historical and more elegant nature of the place is what you seek. It is certainly worth the price we paid with the online deal. Note: if you get a coupon online, be sure the room is in the actual castle mansion and not the run-of-the-mill hotel room in their other building on the property.

First, although this review is about the spa, the restaurant is world class and should be experienced. I really do love the spa and look forward to visits there. The spa services are excellent and rejuvenating. The pool is always a relaxing experience. On this visit-I haven't been there in 2 years-I noticed a need for some updating/repairs. Upon entering you are greeted and given a robe to change into. The prior white robes are now a dirty looking gray and felt unclean. The waiting area furniture is chipped and worn and the wallpaper is peeling. The bathroom carpet need cleaning or replacing. The wallpaper there is also peeling. The hand held shower in one of the stalls is broken. I was horrified when using the bathroom that there was a brown scum ring in the toilet-it needs cleaning. The garbage pail was overflowing with what looked like fast food trash. The outdoor heated pool was clean but the patio was in need of sweeping as there was debris from the trees. Again...I have always enjoyed this venue but I think management needs to step up and address the above issues. This is marketed as a first class, historical resort. The spa waiting room, the spa bathroom and the pool area need some attention to get it back to what it used to be.
