Castle Hill Resort & Spa in Proctorsville, Vermont
Hidden away in the heart of Vermont's scenic Green Mountains is the elegant full-service Castle Hill Resort & Spa. Part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, this New England gem, located in lovely Ludlow, recaptures the gracious lifestyle of a bygone era. The estate, built at the turn of the 20th century, offers several styles of accommodations including rooms in the original mansion, as well as state-of-the-art resort-style homes. Guest rooms have varying appointments including decorative fireplaces, soothing whirlpool tubs, period furnishings and more. The freestanding homes are capsules of luxury offering complete privacy, multiple rooms and gourmet kitchens. On winter nights curl up in front of the fire, make a pot of bubbly fondue, or dim the lights and watch as snowflakes fall.
Dining at Castle Hill Resort and Spa is an experience all its own. The menu is a creation of French-influenced American cuisine offered at breakfast and dinner. The inn also boasts the only full-service spa in the region with a focus on fitness, wellness and mental restoration. Drape yourself across a massage table for a treatment that is likened to an out-of-body experience at this Aveda concept spa, where aromatherapy is also part of the philosophy. The region offers plenty of activities including skiing, sledding and snowshoeing during the winter, and golf, tennis, hiking and fly fishing dominating the warmer months. There are also outdoor concerts to enjoy, scenic gondola rides, leisurely drives through covered bridges, and plenty of shopping and gallery hopping too.

Reviews for Castle Hill Resort & Spa
We spent a wonderful 5 days at Castle Hill Resort and Spa. The leaves were just beginning to turn. Everything was perfect. It is so convenient to many attractions in a beautiful area in central Vermont.

Just a cute, quaint, very clean hotel. Very close to all kinds of activities!! Hotel staff is A+. The 2 pools are great, Our grandson loved them. Hot fresh "good" coffee is always available in the lobby.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the Point August 2017. Spacious and immaculate. The Restaurant was by far every bit of Thor five star reputation. Food , romantic atmosphere and service unmatched. Thanks to the entire staff. We will definitely return.

I first viewed the resort through Groupon. When I called to obtain reservations in the Castle it was completely booked so plan in advance to obtain a room in the Castle. We ended up staying in one of the 1 bedroom condos which was very roomy, full kitchen , living room with fireplace, bedroom, beautiful en-suite bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, there was also a 1/2 bath and a patio. The price was slightly expensive but we had lots of privacy. Very clean and maintained. They offered with the reservation a $25 coupon for 2 for dinner and 2/$25 off spa services. It helped a little. The Castle ambiance is special. Dinner at the Castle was very expensive I would give it 3 forks for quality (It depends on your restaurant experience) although it is rated higher by Trip Advisor and google, drinks were measured to a tee. Service at the restaurant was very, very slow and as our time waiting it became slower. It wasn't that they were too busy they had plenty of service workers. We ended up getting 2 drinks for free because it took 30 min to get drinks after they were ordered and our meal was overcooked. Spa services are Aveda and also overpriced. You can expect that from Aveda They had a nice outdoor pool and hot tub that was relaxing. We were also able to use services at the Point Hotel at the bottom of the hill which included an indoor pool and hot tub. Breakfast is not included. They do offer continental breakfast at either the Castle or the hotel. Of course the Castle is pricier. The Hotel had limited offerings for breakfast and is not worth the money. Find other options in town. We did go to Hatchery for breakfast and lunch located right in town in Ludlow which was outstanding including the service. Overall it was a very nice place to stay, the grounds of the Castle were well landscaped and maintained. I would go back again.

As an admirer of historic buildings, I looked forward to visiting Castle Hill Resort which was built by a former governor of Vermont a century ago. While most of the exterior and interior are intact (which is rare for older homes whose ownership has changed often as well as serving as an inn), the home needs to be more authentically restored. For example in our room and in particular in the bathroom, the paint on the wall isn't original and makes the room too dark. The shower was added to the wall and splashes water all over the painted walls. The tiles are separating from the walls near the sink. Tiles around the tub are broken and make the bathroom appear near derelict. The toilet is original but the bowl is badly stained. The toilet seat cover is a cheap plastic seat. When you open the back door to the bathroom all that is visible is newly placed insulation. Another area in need of authentic restoration is the once-exquisite dining room. The chandelier is missing and replaced with a small light probably borrowed from a hallway or room. The wooden side panels adjacent to the main entry were burned by candles possibly and need refinishing. Aside from the restoration issues, the lodging was comfortable. In addition, the pris-fixe 3 course dinner was delicious although far too much food on each plate (2/3'rds too much). The servers in the dining room were pleasant and accommodating. The Serbian host of the Inn was also accommodating and gave us a mini tour. Would I stay here again? Probably not. Would I recommend it to others? Possibly.
