NOT At All What I Expected!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

When I booked this "resort" I was very clear with their reservation manager that I wanted a quiet and updated 2-bedroom unit. I was assured I would. I received neither! The first room I was given was 2/3s remodeled. The beds all squeaked and the sofa was dirty and stained. The units can be noisy, also. I do not know if the floors are made of concrete or not but you can hear everything above you! I requested a room change which they provided to the floor above and to a much better unit, but could still year people walking and chairs being dragged. The property was also doing renovations every day! Banging and pounding from 8:30 am to 5pm! (I had to work remotely while my family got to enjoy the island!) Every time I complained about the noise they assured me it was the last day of work. It was Groundhog Day every day … “they will be finished today” just to hear it again the next morning. Regardless of what they tell you when you book and when you are at the property, you really need to be skeptical about everything they say. Honestly, I think they just tell you what they think you want to hear. The service can be slow but that's the way most of the Caribbean works. The chambermaids and breakfast people are very welcoming and helpful, though, but the breakfast buffet isn’t very good. For dinner, I would suggest a restaurant other than the hotel’s restaurant, and go into town (a short 10 minute walk) to eat at Lupo (Italian). I would give it 5 stars for quality of food and service. I would also recommend Le Bouchon, which I would also give 5 stars too. Back to the resort, Point Grace resort contains all investor-owned units which are rented out under a management contract with the existing operator. That is why, in my opinion, the property appears dumpy. Everywhere you look this property needs repairs. Clearly, the owners are just not kicking in the required capex to make the property worth the money. For $1500 a night, I expected a lot, lot more! I would not recommend this property to anyone looking for peace and quiet and a professional level of service, as well as a memorable hospitality experience. Point Grace does not provide that experience and, unfortunately, falls very short of even coming close. I was glad to leave.

Beautiful and accommodating boutique hotel on Grace Bay.

Beautiful and welcoming small boutique resort. Greeted with a property tour on arrival and complimentary rum punch/choice of beer and bottled water and cookies/sweets in our room. Our condo style suite was amazing with stunning ocean views and updated decor/appliances/etc. Housekeeping did a great job coming in daily and for turn down service. We loved that bottled water was also provided at the pool and beach and even were served complimentary sorbets. The pool is quiet but this didn’t deter the kids from having fun and relaxing. We took our the kayaks and the guys at the beach were helpful bringing it down and back. Breakfast was also included and was a wide array of fruits, pastries, breads, hot dishes etc. Very friendly staff and resident cat, Junior. The only problem we had was the flies when eating at Grace’s Cottage when our lobsters came out but they did allow us to take our dishes up to our room to eat and escape the flies, although it was disappointing for such a nice restaurant. Also bikes available for guests but none sized for smaller children so we couldn’t take advantage of this amenity. Overall we truly loved our stay at Point Grace and will be back. The kind staff and little details made it extra special.

Disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We’ve been to Point Grace several times. We had a disappointing stay this last time. Our bathroom in the East building is in dire need of a re-do. The shower/tub step up is very inconvenient. The grout at the sink is literally black from dirt, mold. The grout in the shower is just gross. The bath towels are like sandpaper. The breakfast is the same. There’s a worker who goes around straightening up the utensils putting his hands on top of the serving part of the ladels. The cold cuts and cheese look like they’ve seen better days. They changed the lunch menu. It’s quite limited. They increased their prices alot. For instance, they offer grilled shrimp for $48. They have a chicken kebab for $38. Lunch was over $100 each day and that’s with a soda and iced tea. The overall feel is that its getting worn and trying to gauge customers with subpar rooms and crappy food.

Charming Hidden Gem

We loved our 3 night stay at the Point Grace. As others mentioned, it's a small boutique hotel. We stayed at a poolside cottage and loved the convenient 5 step walk to the main pool. The beach was just a mere couple steps away. It was very windy the days we were there by the beach, so we opted to stay around the pool. Always plenty of chairs available and friendly staff to refill our ice bucket with fresh bottled water. We ordered lunch poolside and the food was excellent. The hotel is a short walk to the main street where we chose to have dinner a couple nights. We rented a car at the airport and was pleasantly surprised to hear there was free parking -- just a couple steps away from the main check in area. Our room seemed recently renovated. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The free breakfast was perfect -- plenty of fresh fruit, coffee, hot buffet items, cereal, yogurt, etc. I was able to book a massage last-minute and it was great. Ambience of the "spa" was very charming but low-key -- think two small freestanding huts at the side of the property close to the beach. My massage had equal part relaxing sounds of the beach waves, and a leaf blower as they were doing landscaping around the property. Still, the masseuse was wonderful and I would recommend. Agree with another review that the guests were either older or couples with younger kids. Would not necessarily recommend for a honeymoon spot, but it was perfect for us for a short peaceful romantic getaway without our kids.

Considerations...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Pros: 1. Excellent onsite restaurant which was able to accommodate us even though they were full. 2. Beach felt very exclusive and intimate and the staff was very nice. 3. Cottage had character and was in pretty good shape. Cons: 1. Breakfast buffet was a bit lacking and a diet coke cost $11. 2. Property is showing it's age 3. Front desk staff isn't friendly
