We loved this hotel, but only in our second room. The first one, back in no. 4 at the back, was horrible. Then we were in no. 5, which was better. The very best would probably be the ones right at the front. The location was outstanding.

We recently finished our second visit to this lovely hotel in Centro Historico in Puebla. This small boutique hotel has much to offer, including breakfast with your room rate. The managers are eager to please, and try to ensure that things are satisfactory to one's needs. There were a couple of "hiccups" while we were staying there, but management was able to fix those "hiccups" to our advantage, for which we were very happy. The rooms in this very historic hotel are all different, with each one offering something different in terms of space, decor and furnishings. The location is exceptional, being only blocks from the Zocalo, easy walking distance to many major sites. A very pleasant second visit to a very pleasant hotel in an incredibly beautiful city!!!

We arrived with high hopes for this hotel as it appeared quirky and interesting. Unfortunately it was but not in a good way. The good points are the reception staff were helpful and the location is great. The problems are all problems that have been raised in prior reviews and therefore are clearly known. Our room was like a cave. There was little natural light. This could have been made less pronounced if the lights had been turned on when we were shown to our room. There was a bad smell of sewerage coming from the bathroom. The door to the bathroom was miniscule and one of the funniest photos of our holidays is my husband trying to squeeze through. There was no hot water in the morning. Reception advised it takes ten minutes to come through. it would have been good to be told this when we checked in. After a further 20 minutes we rang again. We were advised they would check the system. After another 15 minutes we just used the cold water. Eventually it did warm up. The keys to the doors are huge old fashioned keys. We are used to this as we have a heritage house. My husband who is very handy had trouble working the key. Less applied people would need help. The eating area was bright but a bit industrial. The margaritas were great but the food was average. When we arrived there was a large group in for lunch and our room smelled of kitchen smells (fat) and we could hear all the conversation below.

We ate at the restaurant inside the hotel.Nice atmosphere and attentive staff. We tried the Mole Poblano in pork and the Sacrista special with chicken. Both dishes were tasty. The flavors of the sacrista dish was unique. The Mole was very rich and neither dish was overly spiced. It cost about $30 which included 2 beers.

Everything about the Meson Sacristía is special: the beautiful sixteenth-century building, the antique-furnished rooms, the wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is also lovely, serving beautiful local specialties in a romantic setting. I visited for dinner eleven years ago, and never forgot the delicious mole Poblana or the lovely atmosphere of this one-of-a-kind place. What a pleasure to return as a staying guest. No one who comes to Puebla should miss it. (And no one should miss wonderful Puebla.)
