Gansevoort Dominican Republic in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Opened in 2014, Gansevoort Dominican Republic is forecasted to transform Playa Imbert like the brand transformed areas of New York City and the Turks and Caicos. The Dominican Republic’s gorgeous north coast is better known for its all-inclusives, but here is a hip alternative: suites with state-of-the-art kitchens and natural stone finishes and a restaurant helmed by Giancarlo Flori, whose credits include the Michelin three-starred El Bulli restaurant in Spain. If Gansevoort’s pair of New York hotels is any indication, expect this resort to be synonymous with celebrity.

Take a plate of papaya and pastries to the beach and listen to the waves. Stake claim to a wood-framed cabana and decide this is heaven: layers of brilliant aquamarine water set against an ocean backdrop. Set sail on a catamaran in the afternoon. Choose an indulgent bottle of Chilean wine and a Macanudo cigar in the subterranean La Cantina Wine + Cigar Cellar.

We had tremendous expectations as brochure and website depict a beautiful boutique resort. In fact, the owners are DECEITFUL, property was badly damaged during unfortunate hurricanes, but ownership was less than candid about condition of property. Dominican Republic is beautiful but strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

Are family of five stayed in one of the oceanfront four bedroom penthouses over the Christmas/New Year holiday. The accommodations are spectacular. Wonderful baths, full kitchen, huge terraces on three floors, comfortable living spaces and incredible views. Pools are wonderful and there are enough chaise lounges and beds for three times the number of guests. Still we were able to reserve our favorite spots in advance and dispense with having to run down at 7:30 and place books/suntan lotions/hats in strategic spots. Spa is also wonderful! We loved both restaurants Baia and Aguazul. Great raw materials treated lovingly in the kitchen. Breakfast is excellent. I ordered the eggs Benedict each day and they are happy to serve breakfast in your suite. Service is warm and genuine -- not overly professional but we fell in love with all the service workers. Anna and Elana, two sisters from Greece are excellent and truly lovely young woman. If you need anything just ask for "Aura", the chief of staff. She is the glue that holds this place together and she willingly and successfully completes any request. Incredibly competent, sincere and warm. While the accommodations and staff are excellent, I still haven't put my finger on what captures me most about this wonderful place. We were all able to totally relax and free of any concern whether it was something small or large. Everyone in the resort seemed truly relaxed and carefree. Even at some of the resorts on the high end there is an environment of "competition -- for the best spot at the pool, for a privileged table in the restaurant or to be serviced first. Not here, Plenty of pie for all.

My family stayed at this spectacular resort from December 26 - December 31st. It was an incredible experience. I would highly recommend The Gansevoort. We could not ask for more. The whole experience was 5 stars from start to finish. Our vacation started off with ease before we arrived. Delio, the reservation manager, and Aura, the assistant general manager, were outstanding. They contacted us in advance to assist us with every aspect of our holiday. Aura recommended wonderful excursions and restaurants. One of my sons has celiac and Aura went out of her way to make sure that the hotel made arrangements for him. In addition, Aura called the restaurants that were not on the premises to explain to the chef his gluten allergy. I could not ask for more. We were met at the gate at the airport by Delio and received VIP treatment. He guided us through customs, baggage claim and into our car service. The ride to the hotel was only 15 minutes. We were greeted by Jairo with a smile and a refreshing cocktail. He then guided us through a tour of this magnificent hotel. Our accommodations were just beautiful. It was a 3 bedroom/ 3 and half bath over the top apartment. It had a full kitchen, dining room, washer/dryer and walk-in closets. The terrace wrapped around the whole apartment with breathtaking ocean view. Each night, my whole family watched the sunset from the terrace. It was magical. The housekeeping staff keep the apartment immaculate. I never wanted to leave. The pool was phenomenal. Just beautiful. We were there on holiday week and there were plenty of beach chairs and pool beds. Ariel and Carlos were there to help with a smile and always found you the perfection location. It was a pleasure. They checked on you periodically and make sure that all your needs were met. We could not ask for more. There are two restaurants on the property and they were both outstanding. Every meal was delicious. They remembered what you like to drink and eat and they had it waiting for you. Every need was met and nothing ever was a problem. They remembered that my son had celiac and had fresh gluten free options for him everyday. The attention to detail was just amazing. They was also a DJ there for lunch which was a wonderful touch. The Gansevoort is superior hotel. The attention to detail was impressive. I want to thank Aura and Delio for making our vacation a wonderful memory. This is an exceptional hotel and I can not wait to return for another magical vacation!

Our stay was for 6 days, we stayed while on a mission trip to Puerta Plata. From being greeted with the most refreshing Passion Fruit Drink, to the Infinity Pool to the 3 bedroom suite, everything was top notch. Didn't get a lot of pool time, but when we did happen to sit for even 5 minutes, there was always someone there immediately with a table or a towel asking what else we needed. One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed!
