Gansevoort Dominican Republic in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Opened in 2014, Gansevoort Dominican Republic is forecasted to transform Playa Imbert like the brand transformed areas of New York City and the Turks and Caicos. The Dominican Republic’s gorgeous north coast is better known for its all-inclusives, but here is a hip alternative: suites with state-of-the-art kitchens and natural stone finishes and a restaurant helmed by Giancarlo Flori, whose credits include the Michelin three-starred El Bulli restaurant in Spain. If Gansevoort’s pair of New York hotels is any indication, expect this resort to be synonymous with celebrity.
Take a plate of papaya and pastries to the beach and listen to the waves. Stake claim to a wood-framed cabana and decide this is heaven: layers of brilliant aquamarine water set against an ocean backdrop. Set sail on a catamaran in the afternoon. Choose an indulgent bottle of Chilean wine and a Macanudo cigar in the subterranean La Cantina Wine + Cigar Cellar.

Reviews for Gansevoort Dominican Republic
Our stay was for 6 days, we stayed while on a mission trip to Puerta Plata. From being greeted with the most refreshing Passion Fruit Drink, to the Infinity Pool to the 3 bedroom suite, everything was top notch. Didn't get a lot of pool time, but when we did happen to sit for even 5 minutes, there was always someone there immediately with a table or a towel asking what else we needed. One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed!

Please allow me to preface this review with a couple of things. Primarily that we visited the Gansevoort in Turks and Caicos in 2016 and my review is mostly based in the experiences we had there versus here. Additionally, please remember that we visited after the island had seen a couple of very unpleasant hurricanes and had just reopened 2 days prior to our arrival. I did contact the phone on the phone prior to booking to ask if everything was okay. I was told that everything would be ready except for replacing a patio that was lost in the storm. Having said that, here's our experience... We were met at the airport by Gansevoort staff in a black Mercedes SUV. Everyone was very kind. Upon arrival at the property, we were taken on a tour. The pool was obviously stunning as well as the ocean views. It was explained that there was only one restaurant open at that time and that the beach had been washed away in the hurricanes. We were disappointed because we prefer to swim in the sea versus a pool and expectations were high based on the confirmation from staff prior to arrival. We were shown to our room which was a stunning 3 bedroom apartment with an ocean view on the second floor. The apartment boasted 3.5 bathrooms, 3 full bedrooms, 2 of which had full walk in closets, a family room with a TV as well as a sitting room, a dining room and a kitchen. The fridge was stocked with water, soda and Dominican beer. There was also a full patio with shade that included a sofa, a table for dining as well as a couple of chaise loungers. The accommodations were absolutely lavish, especially since we had only booked a one room suite. We did have problems with the hot water. The staff was very responsive in getting it working but we did have to call on two separate dates. The views were stunning, the room was stunning. With the package that we purchased, there was a bottle of sparkling wine as well as chocolate covered pineapple in the room. The pool area was beautiful and because it was a very slow week, there was ample room for everyone to have a pool bed or a beach bed. There wasn't any waiting for chairs, but I could see it happening at peak season, though they did have another pool that we did not explore. They did also bring us frozen passion fruit in the pool one day while we were there and that was delicious! We also visited the spa which was great. We had booked a package that included a one hour spa service and they were incredibly kind in helping us apply that towards a couples massage. The L'Occitane spa was very wonderful though the facility was small and the service itself was wonderful. Afterwards, we were provided with tea and snacks. We really enjoyed the spa. The staff was absolutely incredible. My favorite, our driver Wilson was also very cautious and careful on the roads which could be hazardous at times. He also patiently answered all my questions. He was truly wonderful. Glen helped us arrange for our excursions and he was really helpful! Since there was no beach to swim in, he recommended that we visit a neighboring beach which was within walking distance, however, we took the car. While at the beach, it began to rain. We waited for the rain to pass. Later, Glen told us that they had come to the beach once it started raining to make sure we were okay and when they saw that we were, they had gone back. How incredibly thoughtful to go check on guests to make sure they were okay. The rain was very little and passed quickly, but this gesture really impressed me. Additionally, I had been looking for a Gansevoort goose that I had found and bought in the Turks (each property is supposed to have a goose with a different colored tie). They said that they didn't have one yet, but if they did they would send one. Then later, a little goose with a purple bow tie appeared for me. I was really happy that they had gone the extra mile. As far as staff is concerned, the Gansevoort is absolutely above and beyond. Everyone we met was kind, efficient and helpful. All in all, it is a stunning property. The staff is incredible and I was happy that I was able to visit. I would return again, however, I would do a few things differently this time. I would double check that they had a beach since that was our #1 requirement and finding out that the beach had been lost in the storms was disappointing (not their fault, but full disclosure would have been better). I would ensure that all the restaurants were open prior to booking. Please do not misunderstand me. The area around the property is not unsafe, but as an American, I was very cautious since this is NOT a traveler hot spot area. We also noticed quite a bit of ladies of the night working a few blocks from the hotel, which we were warned about and we mostly thought was interesting people watching and we never felt unsafe, but there isn't a LOT immediately outside the resort within walking distance. So if the hotel doesn't have a lot of dining options, you've got to take the car into a different area. I just feel that based on the planned renovations we were told they were doing which left one restaurant as well as the lack of a beach that maybe they just weren't quite ready to announce their grand reopening. Bottom line, this hotel is great and has the potential to be outstanding. Just a couple more little wrinkles to iron out and they will achieve greatness. The people at the Gansevoort did every single thing that they could to make us comfortable and happy, they just had some circumstances working against them. I look forward to returning when they have a beach again!
This review is long overdue--18 months to be exact. This resort was spectacular in every sense of the word and area: room size, room amenities, room views, room cleanliness, food quality, food selection, food availability, pool(s) and relaxation amenities. The staff, especially Marvin, were outstanding. Yes, there was an occasional language barrier, however they never stopped endeavoring to understand the request or exceed expectation. Let me provide you some details. First, the rooms are ridiculously large and fantastic. You are by no means crammed into a phone phone booth here--it's all luxury. The floors are stone, the linens exquisitely soft and the amenities within the showers, kitchen (espresso maker? yes), dishwashers, island counters, formal dining areas and also casual seating areas are all expansive. The outdoor patio EASILY measured 50 feet by 20 feet, had a table for 4 and two lounge chairs. Honestly, you may never want to leave the room--but the pool beckons. There are several outdoor lounging areas by the main pool and umbrellas over lounge chairs on the lengthy private walkway abutting the beach. Laying underneath the umbrella your view over toe tips is one of soothing blue bliss. If you desire more activity, the main pool will suit you well. For more serene, relaxing and tranquil environs I suggest the far end by a smaller adult pool. The staff checks on you periodically as they know cool refreshments are much needed, however they are not hovering or intrusive. Trust me, whatever stresses you may have arrived carrying, they will soon be eased away by the views and the service. I stayed there as part of an awards trip and hope they survived the recent hurricanes. It is about 15-20 minutes from the airport where you are greeted and immediately shown to a private (air conditioned) salon while your bags are retrieved and you wait with refreshing cocktail in hand. Round trip transportation is provided in Mercedes Benz which is always a nice touch. My hope is the hunger level to please and exceed customer requests has not abated since February 2016, and that the service commitment still shines through. Cheers, Martin Martin A. My wife and I stayed there for 6 days and had a wonderful time. Hotel is beautiful, gorgeous infinity pool looking out to the ocean that is steps away. Restaurant is right next to pool overlooking private beach. Quite a large bay and can swim out to reef and snorkel and see lots of colorful fish. Staff are exceptionally professional, courteous and nice. Place is very clean. Also has a gym with beautiful views of the Atlantic ocean. From the hotel you can drive to other beaches, or the jungle, or visit Santiago or the north coast towns and beaches (kite surfing at Cabarete is a treat to see). Temperature was a very constant 25Ā°C min 31-32*C every day (77-92) with rain some nights. Overall, a gorgeous gem of a location and experience!
Gansevoort exceeded my expectations. We were picked up at the airport and immediately greeted with drinks and a friendly tour guide. The pools and views were breathtaking. Our apartment was not only immaculate but also gorgeous. The fully equipped kitchen was great and the refrigerator had been stocked with beverages. My two friends and I wanted a relaxing getaway and this was perfect. The food was great. The staff was great. We even had a personal butler! We never left the resort. Thank you to Juan, Stanley and several others who made our stay incredible. Even the pool DJ was so accomodating!
