Eden Roc at Cap Cana in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Eden Roc at Cap Cana is a five-star boutique hotel that’s part of an exclusive 30,000-acre private community at the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. It's no wonder, then, that guests get their own golf cart to explore the far reaches of quiet beaches and forests interspersed with manicured greens. Cheerful Caribbean colors liven up shades of white in suites and villas where lighting, TV and sound are controlled via iPad app.

Wander through coconut palms to the sugar-sand beach, and continue walking along the receding tide. Explore cliffs and lagoons. Float among tropical fish. Relish the sun on your face as you savor a plate of baby lobster fajitas with spicy guacamole onshore. After dinner, channel carefree days along the Cōte d'Azur with a Negroni and live piano music at the retro Riva Bar.

First the good: Everything about this place looks beautiful. When I say "beautiful" I mean absolutely stunning. I can't say enough about how great it looks. The golf carts were very convenient and really just fun. The desk staff was helpful and courteous. Shirley at arrival was very nice and filled us in on all the particulars. The food at La Palapa was good. Fairly pricey, but that was expected and not unreasonable. The included breakfast at Blue was very good. Our pool was large, and clean, the room was the same. The outdoor shower was a nice touch. All sounds great, right? Well, not so much. All this was overshadowed by the fact that we constantly had to badger the front desk about the temperature of our room. Mind you, it was never overwhelmingly hot in our room, but the temp was set at 18 C (about 65 F) and I estimate that it never got below 74-75, and the bathroom was always a few degrees warmer. They said they would send maintenance at least a dozen times, and they showed up about half that many, usually a couple hours after they said that someone would come by. On our last day/night, they said around 1 pm that someone would come by. He showed up at about 8:00, right as we were about to shower and get ready to go to dinner at Blue which I was told by the front desk closed at 10. We waited until about 9 for the maintenance guy (nice guy btw) to do his thing, but ended up having to shoo him away to shower and get ready to make it to dinner on time. We rushed getting dressed and booked it down to Blue to have dinner. Let me remind you, I had JUST called the front desk to ask what time that Blue closed and was told 10 pm. We arrived at 9:30 only to be told that it was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday night. So, our only options were: La Palapa (where we had just eaten the previous night), room service, or the very expensive Mediterano. By that point, I was starting to get pissed. Not wanting to drop $300 on a dinner that I didn't want anyway, we opted for room service. We looked great all dressed up for our fine in room dining. I must say, the penne with bolognese might be the best thing on any of the menus. There was another issue while ordering drinks at the beach. We ordered 2 piƱa coladas while at the beach (when in Rome, amirite?) and it took about 20-25 minutes to get our $45 worth of drinks. I don't want to come off as unreasonable, but at about $20 per drink, I expect a little quicker service. Long story short, for the price of Eden Roc, I would probably spend my money elsewhere. We were married at Zoetry (about 20 miles away) and the service was twice as good at about half the price. The grounds and rooms were not as incredible at Zoetry as they were at Eden Roc, but they were sure as hell more comfortable. PS I started this review as we were waiting on room service during the last meal debacle as the maintenance guy was still in our room at 10 pm. I originally gave it 2 stars. I didn't think that was quite fair, and after I settled down I bumped it up to 3 stars. I wish there was 2.5 star option.

Went to beach Club after playing GOLF for the second time on world class Punta Espada golf course, which frames property. Asked if we could use the beach for 2 hours, and we were turned down, even after the Dir of Golf of entire property called and emailed them to approve. They did not care, they did not honor the text or email, and turned us away, even though it was half empty, and no one was on the beach. Perfect example of not looking at a customer as whole, and treating them better. We as a group, spent over $15,000 with Resort, and cant even go to the beach for 1 hour? #foulball

Excellent hotel! We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights and will be returning. So many wow factors, the suite, food, spa services, pool and clean beach, staff and management, and our own golf cart to drive around on the property!

We had a great time at Eden Roc. Nice beach club and surrounding. Super safe, super relaxed. Very clean, very accommodating. Staff is excellent, in fact that is probably the best part. They are friendly, professional, committed to offer a great experience. And more importantly they are proud of their hotel and proud to be there. With that attitude from the staff very little goes wrong. Shout-out to Kelvin at Blue, Junior and Nicolas at Las Palapas and so many others. One feedback, air condition had some problems. Not terrible but could use a tune up. Nothing that took away joy from our vacation though. We'll be back.

I stumbled upon Eden Roc completely on accident. My wife and I and our 3 young children were on Day 2 of a disastrous foray into an "all-inclusive" resort and I desperately needed to pull the ripcord on the experience. Googling "best luxury hotels" in Punta Cana area I found Eden Roc and called hoping they had a suite for my family of five. Francisco could not have been more helpful not only procuring a 2 bedroom suite but also arranging transportation from the all inclusive dump we had been duped into staying at. The intimacy of the location, the lack of "crowds", and the kindness are virtually every staff member was a refreshing contrast to our catastrophic Melia experience. I found the restaurants to be excellent, if on the pricey side, but well worth it. The beach is gorgeous. I saw other reviewers whining about the seaweed--- wake up people, it's the ocean! The reef is not too far out and if the currents are coming a certain way it brings the seaweed with it. The staff of Eden Roc meticulously groomed the seaweed that washed ashore throughout the day. This is a tremendously relaxing and beautiful place and I look forward to our return!
