Eden Roc at Cap Cana in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Eden Roc at Cap Cana is a five-star boutique hotel that’s part of an exclusive 30,000-acre private community at the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. It's no wonder that guests get their own golf cart to explore the far reaches of quiet beaches and forests interspersed with manicured greens. Cheerful Caribbean colors liven up shades of white in suites and villas where lighting, TV and sound are controlled via iPad app.

Wander through coconut palms to the sugar-sand beach, and continue walking along the receding tide. Explore cliffs and lagoons. Float among tropical fish. Relish the sun on your face as you savor a plate of baby lobster fajitas with spicy guacamole onshore. After dinner, channel carefree days with a Negroni and live piano music at the retro Riva Bar.

My wife and I just returned from a 5 day stay at Eden Roc. We had a spectacular two bedroom beachfront suite which was amazing! The service level at Eden Roc is as spectacular. A few to call out specifically are the sommelier at the restaurant (sorry his name escapes me), all the staff at the three restaurants, the bartending/server staff (Jimmys and Juan specially) and the beach staff (Elvis and others) who all made the experience terrific. The food and drinks are 5-star at all the restaurants – spectacular! Reminder that it is not all inclusive nor is it cheap to stay or eat/drink at Eden Roc. The only things that came with it are the breakfast assuming you go to it or else you can get for $40 delivery + the 28% extra. Keep in mind EVERYTHING you buy has 28% added to it which includes 10% service fee (we assumed this is shared by serving staff) and the 18% DR tax. My wife had a terrific year and she wanted to treat us so we didn’t budge on much while there. This said, without comps or credits toward golf, spa and F&B it would be a decision to return. The drop-off in service & food from the better all-inclusive is real however the cost between option & Eden Roc is large too. RE: Activity. Cap Cana is secluded for the most part. Eden Roc has no tennis, no watersports (did see many boogie boards so may be offered), it has a very short beach to walk and only the Scape Cana area nearby for some activities which are at an additional cost. Scape Cana is nice but I’d recommend keeping your expectations low and remember it is not cheap for what is offered. We only had one complaint which from our "concierge" person. We received continuous very resistive comments from him when asking about going to other restaurants away from Eden Roc, walking a long beach (which is by Secrets btw) or even getting a car to go to casino in Punta Cana. He is a very nice person and maybe it was cultural thing with him but we felt like he wanted us only to spend our money at Eden Roc. Also, we were told on the last full day if we would sit with him for 5-10 minutes about re-booking another visit we would get credit for our current stay and future comps at that stay. It not only felt very time-share like but somewhat offending that we didn’t get any credits/comps while spending an insane amount of money there. RE: Families. There were a lot of families with kids at the resort. They all seemed to love their time there too. However, we would never consider taking our teenage kids here with so little activity. There were some teenage kids there but more so of families with much younger children. The staff was from our viewpoint again terrific with the kids. Overall, we would give the resort a 4.9/5.0 score. Reasons for the high score: 1) The service is second to none. 2) The food and drinks we had were amazing, 3) the property is impeccable and 4) our suite was incredible. The only reason for the not perfect score is our complaint mentioned….didn’t ruin our amazing trip but worth noting.

We've stayed at many resorts in the Caribbean and elsewhere over the years. Eden Roc Cap Cana is the best experience of all. We particularly enjoy the beachfront rooms. The resort management pays attention to the details that make all the difference. And the food quality is consistently excellent.

Just returned from two night stay in Ocean front suite $2,200 a night with taxes they should be ashamed. The hotel is not worth half that price total rip off but no one will care at the hotel as they were completely apathetic and did nothing. First day we arrived our shower drain did not work and I had to take a shower in two feet of water as the manager could not be found for 30 minutes. The food is expensive and poor quality. First day lunch ordered fish that was to bea filet and first bite full of bones, The breakfast buffet as not impressive cheap cheeses and bad pastries and the staff although many, couldn't even be bothered to refill empty things. The whole place was asleep from my perspective and could not be bothered to go out of their way to help but I guess $2,200 a night is not enough to get 5 star service. I would say this is a $1,000 a night room at best and three stars so beware. I stay at all the top hotels so I don't mind paying when you get what you pay for. They needs some lessons from four seasons. The rooms are fine high end "hyatt" style not impressive. The resort has a nice small beach but the staff is for sure asleep at the wheel. Take you money somewhere else many better options

We are currently at the resort, but didn't want to wait to write an outstanding review. Eden Roc is quite beautiful and elegant. The staff is outstanding - they go out of their way to be kind and gracious to all. The food is expensive, but very good. The web site doesn't do the place justice. It's like being in an alternative universe where everyone is kind, everything is beautiful, and there is no stress. If only we could stay for months....

Cap Cana is rather exclusive, and Eden Roc is even more so. Yet, only a 10 or 15 minute drive from the airport. This is an upscale resort geared to a quiet experience which caters to your every need. Every member of the staff treats each guest as the exclusive guest in his or her home. As well, the quality of the food is top-shelf....each meal better than the next. And wonderful villas with private pools! With golfcarts to cruise around in the whole time. Not inexpensive but well-worth it. We will be back.
