I had been looking forward to experiencing this property prior to it being built. SPG has a great brand and I've spent over 350 nights in their properties over the last 6 years. My wife and I had an awesome, relaxing and romantic time together at this property. 1. The beach is absolutely beautiful. You can walk out about 100 yards or so and still see clear to the bottom of the water. Its very clean and the water was very clam. Much better than having violent waves and steep drop off. Also, the furniture was very nice, clean and comfortable. We spend hours out lounging around ordering food and drinks. The staff was very helpful and clearly well trained. 2. The pool was really nice and the temperature was just right. The jacuzzi was amazing and we took full advantage of its awesomeness. One thing that was concerning was that the tile surface in the pool area was very slippery. Be very careful.... 3. Breakfast and other food in the resort was decent. The food was of good quality. The one thing I didn't like was that there were so many precooked eggs. Prolly best if they stick to cooking eggs on demand. If you request it, they will. 4. The room was really well cleaned. We had no complaints in that department. In fact, the entire place was well kept. The public bathrooms were surprisingly clean for a resort. 5. The front desk staff was very good about helping with anything. I've been learning Spanish and the staff was extremely patient and helpful. Special shout out to Eliedy! 6. I attended the Stretching / Yoga class taught by Gathon and it was awesome. In addition to leading the class he was also teaching me and the other guest Spanish words associated with the class. Not to mention he gave us a really good stretch... Well done Sir! 7. Theres a free shuttle to Punta Cana Village. The food there is really goo and the front desk had so great recommendations...

We loved our stay at the Westin. Rooms and grounds immaculate. Staff was outstanding especially Fernando who is always smiling and always helpful and Eliegy who used every encounter as a chance to teach Spanish. The beach is great. The sand is the best kind. The water is shallow a long way out. We didn't eat dinner on site. Breakfast was ok. Typical for hotel food. We didn't have kids with us but I'd recommend it for families with young kids as there was a sweet playground and kids section and a kiddie section of the pool.

This hotel is at a beautiful location, the view is breathtaking and the beach is pristine and calm. The pool is huge and is open 24/7. The pool, nor the beach, are ever "packed". You never feel like it's crowded. Not many children there, and for the most part, pretty well behaved kids (and parents). It never got rowdy like you might sometimes worry about at a tropical resort location. We loved being able to use the complimentary shuttle to get around. We almost missed it a couple of times, because we were told to wait at the wrong location once to get a ride back from the Village. The included breakfast had a lot to offer, from eggs and pancakes, to oatmeal and fruit, to smoked salmon and bagels. Usually 5 juice options every morning. The mini-fridge would be re-stocked every day (be careful though, the cost adds up for what you take out of it), and house keeping service was pretty reliable around the same time each day, so that we could make sure we were out of the room for them. The room is big with a separate luggage room and closet, and a HUGE bathroom. There is a balcony you can sit on as well. There is a multi-use paved pathway out near the road if you want to run/walk/bike. It goes down to La Cana (about 1.5 miles) and Tortuga Bay (about 2 miles). There's a golf course and spa at La Cana. Okay, for the not-so-great experience..... the gym was closed the entire week we were there, because they were doing construction just outside of it. So the power and ventilation and everything was shut off. For all the triathletes who were staying there for the nearby race, this was not the best time to not access the gym. So, that was frustrating. Halfway through the week, we were told they could shuttle us to another hotel to use their gym, but that seemed a little more trouble than it's worth, and we had no idea what the other gym even looked like or what it was equipped with. Elevators would randomly be blocked for either repairs, or I don't know what, and sometimes we were forced to take the stairs. There'd be no advanced notice of this and happen at random times throughout the day, so remember that if you have bad knees or are considering a handicapped-accessible room. My husband's shoes were stolen off the beach within the first 24 hours of our stay. He went out early to use his metal detector, and placed them under one of the chairs. Within an hour, they were gone, and they never made it to lost and found. So, we learned to not bring anything to the pool or beach that we might leave if going into the water after that. Kind of a bummer you have to worry about that stuff at such a pretty resort / location. The restaurants....great food. Other than breakfast, service seemed slow for the few patrons that would be in there, but we just started expecting that, and would do down BEFORE we even felt hungry, as it could be another 45 minutes before the food was on the table. The waiters were nice, though. For two people to have burgers, fries, two adult beverages, two waters, and maybe split a dessert, expect to pay $60 - $90 dollars. Just a reference for anyone wondering. However, the restaurants are open air, so the flies are relentless and kept flying onto our food. The birds are always landing on tables, taking the sugar packets, and crumbs. If you look down at the "floor" there were always ants. One time the flies were so bad with not leaving us alone, and constantly landing in our food, that I just lost my appetite. That's just gross. Plus, if you're not acclimated to the climate, you will sweat your butt off every time you want to eat. So, I didn't get to dress up as I had hoped, because I didn't want to sweat all over my nice outfits at each meal. We started doing room service, or going to other hotel restaurants after the first few days there. One evening, we had a cockroach in our room. And we would wake up with new mosquito bites and some other weird bite marks on our bodies every morning. We figured mosquitoes would get in when housekeeping would prop the door open to service the room, but I wasn't expecting a cockroach on the higher floors. I had packed ointment, so we'd be lathered up in anti-itch cream and bug repellent each night before going to sleep. Overall, we loved the locale, the friendly atmosphere, the view, the pool, the beach. But some of the other experiences forced me to only give it an average rating. Especially for the cost of the trip.
