My experience at the hotel property was so-so. My interaction with the staff was terrible. Many are arrogant in how they don't care about request or guest experience. Total disregard for the fact that their property may be a popular place for SPG member to redeem the benefits. Gave numerous chance for them to correct, just did not care.

What ever you do...stay away from this hotel! Stay away and don't go there. Because if you do, you'll tell your friends how much you liked it and then they will want to go. This will continue until it becomes very hard for me to book our return trip. This place is terrific! This resort is simply great. 1. WAY better than many other resorts we've visited. 2. 7 minutes from the airport...$20/$25 for a party of 6 to get from the airport to the hotel. 3. Smooth check it in an open lobby...no walls and the breeze blowing through was so refreshing. To the management...you should have flavored water on a table to greet your guest. 4. The pool is HUGE. The beach is HUGE. We never had a problem getting a chair at either. This made going to the beach or pool so relaxing and leisurely. 5. The beach was terrific. There is a strong current which makes if fun to float around. You and swim out to a sandbar 300 yards from the shore that is ankle deep 6. Watch the kite boarders fly by 7. The food was TERRIFIC a. Brassa Grill which is the large beach side restaurant. Had lunch there every day. The Peruvian Cerviche for $20 USD was a delight. Never had an issue with service. b. La Yola is at the Marina and all the table settings face the marina. The food was great there. The wine list was more "resort prices" than other places. C. The Grille at La Cana Golf Course was epic. They have white fleece blankets to offer if the sea breeze is too strong and creates a chill. My kids had the squid ink risotto and laughed when their teeth turned black. So good. Missed out on the passion fruit dessert so we'll have to go back! D. Bamboo - this by far was so incredible...mango gazpacho! Red Snapper cooked perfectly! Mushroom raviolis with mushroom emulsion...come on!! They had a live musician playing the saxophone that enveloped the night. Service was top shelf. E. Went to Punta Cana Village and at at La Casita de Yeya. Authentic Dominican food. So delicious and even though we had a bit of a language barrier, the staff was attentive and helpful with the ordering. 8. Mojitos were only $6.00...I felt obligated to order 2 at a time! 9. The staff there are polite, quick with a smile, helpful...just real nice people. 10. They offer free shuttle service to different properties on the resort. Made it real easy to get to dinner. I would highly recommend this resort. We will be going back.

What a wonderful experience checking in. Dery was helpful, responsive and ensured we had the best room available. I'd stayed over 850 nights in SPG hotels around the world and Dery's service was what you would expect at a St. Regis, and the best I've seen at a Westin. Great experience thus far.

A little bit of background on my reservation to keep this in context. My stay was for 10 nights, 11 days. During the downtime in May. I paid full price for a full Oceanview suite. Given the length of my stay and the class of room, from my experience, hotels tend to put you in the best rooms because you are there for such a long time, compared with travelers there for only a few nights. This did not happen here, despite repeated emails ahead of time and an extended stay, and specific requests. Of all things, this was perhaps the most frustrating. To walk around at night and see almost every room empty, and to realize that they had put you in one of the crappiest rooms all the way above the lobby far away from the ocean while you are here for a significant amount of time. I mentioned this on my second day to the front desk and they told me they had nothing else. Room service told me they were 60% occupied. To me there was just no excuse for this at all. I have to work on "vacation" usually 6-8 hours a day as a business owner and professor, so having a room with a view matters to me a great deal. For those of you also that plan to work, be careful of the Wi-Fi. Yes it's free but there's a reason for that. You get what you pay for. Here are the pros and cons in my opinion of this hotel: Pros: The sand in front of the hotel is gorgeous. The beach extends far out, the water is shallow for a significant portion far past the swimming area, and there is a "sand bar" quite a bit out (not the type that serves alcohol, the natural type LOL) Plentiful bottled water in the rooms, which you'll need. Extra fridge for storing drinks and food. Pool toys and floaties are free at the towel desk. Most of the people that I talked with tried their best to do a good job. They were friendly and other than an occasional irritated front desk person who couldn't help, pleasant to work with. This is a hotel that accommodates Fitness quite well. From healthy options on the menu to a Gym to $5 fitness equipment in your room, they do a decent job trying to help you stay on a good fitness track. Hotel is relatively new, so things still work. There is an on-site cigar and rum bar. Hot Tub is quite expansive, although not very hot. Food tip: order the kids filet mignon. Good and reasonably priced. Housekeeping was efficient and kind. They wouldn't take the money I left out for them on the bed without a note - honest people. Thin thin walls. Even on the top floor you will hear everything your neighbor does. Being ear plugs Room service was sometimes slow but again nice people. The language barrier sometimes resulted in random food however. Now the downsides... I teetered between a three and four star review of this hotel. In the end, the issues regarding the room placement, being dishonest about availability and inadequate childrens club, and in my opinion dishonest marketing regarding how many restaurants they have I have given this three stars. Downsides: Pool service is very difficult to come by. Many times you will see the servers hanging out at the Kite bar, but not out taking orders. They come by about every 45 minutes. As someone who eats and works outside, this was quite irritating. They say they have five restaurants on site but this is simply not true. The kite bar, which serves the same food as all of the other restaurants, counts as one to them. The cigar bar, which has no food really, counts as one. The inside bar counts as their third. Again it's the same menu IF they'll serve you. The inside and outside restaurants, other than a couple of things that are different like baked potatoes, have exactly the same menu. By day 3, we were all sick and tired of the same food from room service and the "restaurant". There is really only one menu at all restaurants. From there, your only option is to go to either the local village which will cost you $20 each Way by taxi, wait an hour for a shuttle, or walk there which is about 4 km. There is another city about 20 minutes away ($45 each Way by taxi) that can get you to a location with more restaurants (it's called Bavari) and it's nice for an occasional night out, but these guys really need to expand their menu options. I don't want to see another cheese quesadilla in my life. Paying $80 plus tip just to get somewhere to eat is absurd. It borders on intentional price gouging. The Internet. Don't even get me started with this. Most of the time I had to have my laptop connected to my phone on a 3G Verizon connection through the Claro network to get any work done at all. It was intermittent at best. Free but doesn't work. Make sure you turn a travel pass on before you leave. Sparse furniture in the room makes for a relatively uncomfortable stay, including in the living area. The pull out couch is not usable as a bed. It feels like one giant spring. Even my six-year-old would not sleep on it and we had to get an extra bed. There is no table for room service on The deck, and only two chairs. Lacking a desk chair - needs one badly. The TV should not be above the desk. Anyone working will soon get a blazing headache or be unable to concentrate. Emailed ahead of time several different requests and none of which were met, although I did get an email confirmation back. Throughout our stay, they were out of many fruits, OJ, avocado etc. The free breakfast downstairs on Saturday is terrible. The omelet bar was out of most ingredients. Very bland boring menu with only one restaurant serving same things. Need ice buckets at pool … Asking for ice resulted in generally a single glass, even when we asked for a bucket. You do not want your $15 drinks going warm in five minutes. The kids club is dark, hot and smelly. My daughter looked forward to going before our trip as she does at every resort. 30 minutes into the first day she asked to never go again. They need multilingual people, air conditioning and thorough cleaning. She didn't go back. Buffet runs out of food quickly. With some refinement and additional *real* restaurants this could be good but right now it's a three star place.

This was one of the nicest hotel's that my wife and I have stayed at in a long time. From the moment we checked in Yarik and his staff was a great help as we celebrated our anniversary with our kids. This was a fantastic trip!!!
