We stayed at Hotel Punta Islita for 6 nights at the end of a 5 week trip to Costa Rica. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a room with a huge terrace and lovely sea views - we spent many hours here just relaxing and admiring the views and the bird - especially the Scarlet Macaws. I would highly recommend a visit to the nearby Art project to see even more Macaws. We ate in the main restaurant, and the beach restaurant, but the nicest place for evening meals is the Kimbute restaurant - we walked there and back - but you can get the free shuttle. I found the food and service at breakfast, not up to the standard expected at a Marriot hotel. The early morning bird walk (free) is good, but the cocktail making (also free) is not worth an hour of your time - unless you like very sickly sweet drinks. The toiletries in the shower are in dispensers that clog up, and its difficult to obtain enough gel or conditioner or shampoo. Overall this is a good place because of its remote location, and there are nice beaches within a 15 minute drive.

I can't say enough wonderful things about Hotel Punta Islita. If you are concerned about the journey from the airport, fear not. The roads are smooth, the drivers are so sweet, and it's a great way to see the local country before arriving at your destination! My fiance and i spent the long weekend here which we filled with activities; horseback riding, sea bass ceviche cooking class, dusk hike, and the view of seven beaches with champagne! We loved spending time with other guests who were all extremely well traveled and interesting to talk to. Every activity was smoothly run and made our stay extra adventurous. The hotel also surprised us with a bottle of champagne celebrating our recent engagement on night one - not a bad way to start a trip! I have been to many ~10 Carribean Island and I can fairly say that Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries I have been to. Please check out this hotel - you will not regret it!

What an amazing place! Being first time visitors to Costa Rica, we didn't know what to expect. The 2 1/2 hour ride from Liberia to our hotel went by pretty quickly. The last 10 miles or so are on a dirt road through the jungle. It's a little bumpy but the drivers were very cautious and experienced. Our villa was spectacular: great views, outdoor living room/kitchen, seating, dunking pool, outdoor shower ( Indoor shower too of course), hammock...it lacked nothing. This property is remote but you can get to Samara via shuttle or other places, but why would you want to leave this paradise? The minibar was stocked with soft drinks, beer and snacks. Not terribly expensive either. The tap water is drinkable. The staff were amazingly helpful and pleasant. I had a great deep tissue massage at the lovely spa. There are daily activiites, some free of charge, others fee based. The two pools on the property were beautiful. The place is clean, well kept and eco-friendly. The villa and grounds offered amazing privacy. The walk to the main hall to the bar and restaurant was not difficult, a little hilly, but a call to the front desk and a transport would pick up quickly. Lots of local wildlife around, parrots and monkeys. If you don't like nature, probably don't come here, but it would be your great loss because this is one of the coolest, most chill places we've been. The food in the restaurants was excellent. If you like a crowded, hyped up vacation, this is not for you. If you never want to wait for a spot at the pool or beach, if you don't want to wait for a table in the restuarant or at breakfast, come here. Also, there is a little gift shop, they have some remedies, t shirts etc, but it's limited. Breakfast was included and it was very good as well.

We had such a wonderful time at this hotel. The whole environment and the views from the top are stunning and the staff is super nice. A special mention for Christina who checked us in and stayed in touch all week. She one of the most helpful, caring and warm hearted people we've met. Zip lining was fun, horseback riding was a blast, and we saw an ocelot on the dusk tour with Jairo! Top notch.

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. It is beautiful but I had some concerns. The hotel is spread out. This is great because each family has his own little bungalow. I believe each bungalow has it's own pool - our did. The first night in the hotel I tried to call the front desk and the phone would not work. The only way I could get in touch with them was by using the emergency phone number listed on the phone. The phone was never repaired so we always called the front desk by calling the emergency number. What concerned me was that one morning we called this number to arrange a ride and no one answered! What would have happen if this was a true emergency? The hotel is spread out so it would have been difficult to get to the front desk quickly. On Christmas Eve we went to the special party at the beach. This was awful! They kept running out of food. The food they did have was not that good. More importantly, it was Christmas Eve. They had no music, no entertainment and no strolling Santas. We all left depressed. I liked the hotel. If I went back again I would only go for 3 nights. It is so isolated. The only thing in Punita Islita is the hotel, 2 little restaurants, a church and a grocery store that is 1/2 the size of a 7/11. When you go out to the hotel, stop at a grocery store before getting to Punita Islita and load up on snacks and drinks. Drinks and snacks are expensive at the hotel and the little grocery store does not offer much. Stay off the hopper planes that go to the hotel.
