Service is exceptional, (I can't think of a single example of anything less than 5-stars from check-in to housekeeping), amenities are first-class, setting is unparalleled and complimentary activities are a fantastic addition to any vacation. Can't say enough-- thanks to all who gave us a trip to remember!

This resort is a gem! It is isolated with many activities included. We enjoyed the monkey walk, bird walk, yoga, cooking lesson, and a beach day. After an initial difficulty with our room, everything was worked out by Marvin to more than our satisfaction! The food quality was good and only suffered one day when it appeared the chef was off. The staff were very warm and helpful.

The location is remote, but that was exactly what we were looking for. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and we loved Punta Islita. Very relaxing, beautiful grounds (except the back walk to the beach needs a little sprucing up). The staff is what makes the experience so great. They were all simply amazing! Beach was secluded, spa was outstanding (literally the best massage I have had in a very long time) and the food was very good. The special birthday cake they made for my husband's birthday was outstanding! We did venture out a couple of nights one to a tapas place just outside the hotel and then found a very special place called Restaurante a la lena Yorleny, where the fish was grilled and seasoned to perfection! Punta Islita is worth the extra drive and a big thank you to the staff for making our time in Costa Rica so enjoyable!

For the price you would expect them to do better to keep up the place. I will say I did like it and loved the location. In addition the service was very good. The food was OK, and the golf course is ragged (good thing we did not want to golf). The highlight is their beach which is very nice with ample places to lounge. We also suggest the monkey quest hike which did result in us seeing a large family of howler monkeys.

Everyone told us not to expect too much of beaches in this region. The beach at Punta Islita was perfect for couples and families. Some rocky areas but a great swimming area and two lovely surf schools. The property has a very wide array of rooms to accommodate many different groups. We stayed five nights in a two bedroom. Unlike many other trips to far ends of the earth, we did not rent a car and did just fine. The food and service: A special call out to Antonio in the restaurant. Antonio is an absolute asset to any resort. My review of Hotel Puntal Islita would not have been as smooth if he had not been on duty while we were there. He was very responsive, knew what we liked and made helpful suggestions. The management need to think about training some of the other staff. One evening we waited close to a half hour for water and when we went over to a waiter who was standing near the water/beverage service looking at his phone. We asked if he could help us get some water for the table. This other waiter said: "I'm not your waiter". We were stunned. We waited. We obviously enjoyed better service elsewhere but really "I'm not your waiter"! The dinners tended to be very disorganized and the food was inconsistent hotel food. No fine dining. Breakfast was an extensive buffet and lunch was what you would expect. There was one female waitstaff and she was excellent. We did not see her too much but were always happy when we did. Unlike many large resorts. This is a charming and beautifully landscaped with abundant wildlife to view and hear! Also, this is not the sort of resort where people reserve their chairs and all of that nonsense. We took advance of the reasonably priced cabanas on the beach. Also a pleasant surprise since many places make the rental of these amenities unreasonable. The resort has a lovely spa and many activities. So many activities that we missed a few! Another very helpful amenity on a hot day after playing is the shuttle bus that runs up and down the hill of the property. Very kind drivers and bell staff. Always very helpful! Suggestions: If you rent a space with a kitchen, stop into or get a taxi to one of the larger local (not the one in Islita) markets so you can prepare food when you wish. Visit the local museum and artists collective in town (Islita) - very short walk. Enjoy the spa and plan your activities! Please see me review on El Silencio if you want to read about suggestions on GrupoIslita and travel. The fitness center is just the right size and was never full. Stunning view.
